It's Time Maloofs ... Fire Petrie (chapter 2)

I personally think this is really silly, but I split the post above away from the two-week old thread that was chapter 1. That chapter, if you recall, was because Petrie picked Hawes. If people are going to start collecting pitchforks and lighting the torches, they should at least know what they're marching for...

Been collecting pitchforks for awhile now. Im tired of giving the guy a break. I will give him credit when he makes a good move, its been awhile.

If and when it happens, I look forward to your post.

Hey, I have always given credit when it was due and this will be no exception. My interests are to see a good Kings team on the floor, not to see a player or a front office manager fired. So, yes, I will write something when something good happens.

Totally OT - I just noticed what your avatar is.

It's almost that time. Unless the mikki signing is part of a 'bigger plan' (which had better become apparent soon), it makes no sense, and is going to hurt us in the long run.

yup, I noticed it(avatar) awhile back...and I cried when that news broke in the summer of 1989. Met Ricky when I was in HS...such a great guy, too.

Well I'm confused by signing, but I doubt this is the end of the summer deals. I'll judge what the roster looks like in October and not mid July. That said, I know Kings fans and they will like Mikki Moore. He's a lively big man and that will make people happy.

This is not so much about Mikki Moore as a player. Its about the direction this team looks to be heading in.

Mikki Moore would have been a solid pick up but not at MLE and certainly not for 3 years, considering the proclaimed summer of 2009 as a FA target. It just that we added yet another average player at MLE to a froncourt overloaded with average overpaid players.

If you can clear 2 of Miller, Thomas, SAR and add more for 2 year deal at about $6-7 million for the duration of the contract, you do it. But this deal looks pointless considering the make up of our roster as it stands now. I sure as hell hope deals are around the corner. Considering the history of this team in the last 3 odd years, I am not holding my breath.

I like...

Justin Williams, but stunting his growth? Don't get carried away. I'm not ready to hand over 30 minutes to a a guy like that.....and I like the guy. If this means less of Miller, then that would make me happy. Moore at least plays hard....

Petrie is one of the best GM's in the league. He built a dismal franchise into a serious title contender once, give him some time. If I recall right, wasn't it Maloofs who opened the bank to sign some of these guys like Bibby to the contract extensions?

Just to clarify, I think the only ones who have actually proclaimed the summer of 2009 as a "FA target" are us, the fans on message boards. I don't recall hearing anything by either the Maloofs or Petrie to confirm or deny that assumption.

I hope we don't make the same mistake with Petrie that we made with Adelman. Seriously, good GMs are very hard to find and we have already have a good one, even though he has made one bad move this offseason.

Hopefully this will end up like the Hawes pick where people are initially upset over it, but start to see the positives after a while. God I hope there are positives to this trade.

You're right, it was too much for us to expect this FO to have enough common sense to target the summer of '09.

I'm not saying it's wrong. I was simply pointing out that people are already making it into fact when it isn't any such thing ... yet.

I don't profess to know what's going on with TPTB; I do still have a modicum of faith, however, that they do know more than most of us here about what their plans and intentions are.

We're going in to 2007-2008. It could well be the end of 2009-2010 before things truly get a lot better. I guess I just hate to see people grasping at a straw that could be just a wisp of smoke.

I would have to find it, but it wasn't a random assumption. It came from one of Petrie's interviews this summer in between all the hens and other nonsense.

I'm serious, you're totally right. We gave the FO way too much credit.

He's been making bad moves for years and years now. That is the scary part. Mentioned before that our front office is basically one late round flyer pick (Kevin) away from having been just dismal over the past 3-4 years. Just nothing. And the further we remove from Geoff's "golden age", and BTW Geoff's big summer was almost TEN years ago now, the more you have to ask does he still have it? Or really question how he did it the first time.

You can't really have a fire thread midsummer thoguh -- have to let the rest of the picture come into view. Cross fingers for trades. Lots of trades. big trades. But its been mentioned again again by Geoff's apologists as well as his detractors that this was a big summer for him/us. And if things don't improve from the fugly first half, then I'm well and done bantering with the apologists about what a great job Geoff did back when Clinton was President and the internet was new.
