It's Boring Being a Vet on a Mediocre Team

Kingster

Hall of Famer
When you're playing against those good teams, that's kind of fun. That makes the heart beat a little faster. But the Clips, the Wolves, the Sonics, the Grizzlies....what a drag. Especially when you're probably - hopefully - going to be traded. I've pretty much reached my peak, I'm not going to get a lot better than what I am. What you see is what you get, so these games aren't exactly "good experience" for my development. And if I'm not going to be traded, well heck, everyone else is going through the motions, why should I be a geeK and dive for a loose ball in a Grizzlies game?...not cool; not cool at all. It's a drag being a veteran on a mediocre team....

The vets will be traded. Petrie knows how to run things and I trust the Kings in his hands.

If all works out Ron and Mike are traded before next season, for at least expirings and 1 pick at least...

That gives us 2 1st Round draft choices (Which will be a PG & PF) plus a second round (Geoffs annual steal) next year. This draft is so deep that we are going to get another great player possibly two.
I expect he will use the MLE to sign Beno in the offseason.
So this is 4 players we obtain to grow into our new team, new coach and new system next year..

Next years possible lineup
C-Hawes/Moore
PF-Miller/ 1st or 2nd round pick possibility/Williams/Shareef
SF-Salmons/Garcia
SG-Martin/Garcia/Douby
PG-Beno/ (1st or 2nd round pick possibility)Douby

That is my anticipated lineup for next year if Bibby & Artest are moved, expiring contracts excluded. Not too shabby considering we just traded two star players and we are rebuilding. Our draft picks will be put in the perfect situation to grow. So The Kings are Happy after the "Ron & Mike trade" and still moving up..

I don't see why Geoff would keep Ron & Mike after looking at how perfectly that scenario looks for a rebuilding team.

a second round (Geoffs annual steal)

Ummm... when was the last time Geoff made a second round pick that we kept past the end of their rookie contract, if even that long? Off the top of my head, I'm thinking... never?

EDIT: 2nd round picks, 1995-2007
95: Tyus Edney and Dejan Bodiroga
96: Jason Sasser
97: Anthony Johnson
98: Jerome James
99: Ryan Robertson
00: Jabari Smith
01: Maurice Jeffers
02: Corsley Edwards
03: nobody (traded away)
04: Ricky Minard
05: traded away
06: traded away
07: traded away

Yeah, I think there is hope for steals in the second round, if Geoff will take them seriously. My guess is that, in the past, he picked them without going to a ton of bother to sort out who might be good or not, then decided not to try anymore and traded a bunch away. But I think that, should he decide to bother at some point in the future, there could be some bargains to be had.

I guess we'll know it's happening if we hear about a number of second round guys coming to Sac to work out. I don't recall that ever happening before.
