Isiah Thomas wants to get back in the NBA as a general manager, but until then, he'll be a consultant to the New York Knicks while still coaching Florida International.

Thomas told ESPN.com Friday that he accepted a more formal and unique consulting position with his former employer, where he will help Knicks general manager Donnie Walsh make decisions on draft picks, trades and personnel.
Awesome! I like it when the stupid are making decisions for other teams. :D

The only job I can see for Isiah is to be the idiot in the dunking booth on fan appreciation day.

Actually, Isiah was a pretty good drafter: Tracy McGrady, David Lee, Marcus Camby, Wilson Chandler, Damon Stoudamire, Nate Robinson. Heck, even the ridiculed Renaldo Balkman pick wasn't horrible considering the rest of the draft behind him (excluding Rondo, there weren't any impact players left). It was the rest of GMing that he had trouble with.

I think he drafted Artest as well, but I could be mistaken.

Anyways, in a perfect world...Isiah would GM The Lakers.

Agreed, and that is why I like the part about "trades and personnel" in there. ;)

Best move by the Knicks all summer. Isiah is good at drafting and I think he's learned from his GM mistakes. Eventually I see the team bringing him back as GM when Walsh retires.

Seeing as Isiah is the same guy who got called out(among others) in a sexual harassment lawsuit against the Knicks why on earth would you again hire him even if it's a different role. I also don't see how this is not a conflict of interest.
ESPN said:
Thomas would have to violate several league rules to serve in both capacities. The NBA does not allow team personnel to scout high school players, which Thomas presumably would have to do to recruit players(for FIU), nor does it allow contact with draft-eligible collegiate players, which Thomas would have coaching his own team.
. Don't see how the Knicks didn't know that before giving him the job
