panic is a strong word. After all, there are 2 teams in the Western Conference that have a worse record then we have.

I really do not know! we need to start playing well cause I'm frustrated right now this team is playing like a team who has no heart and determination in themselfs..

stuff like this never bothers me..... i knew it was the end the minute that doug was traded....... though i like shooters, mobley was not a good fit for this team(though his shooting is seriously missed right about now)..... then webber was traded and all hell broke loose.... i like reef and bonzi and all but with what the twoles and lakers traded for to get kwame and jaric this team so could have had them on this team and we'd be much better off. even if they were still losing.....
sigh..... maybe this is the sar curse..... he's never been on a winning team and now he has turned a winning team into a losing one.....

I share your sentiment, Aries. Really, everything was over when Webber blew his knee. However you feel about him now, when he blew out his knee that was it for the Kings' title hopes.
This is just all part of a rebuilding process. We had such a good offseason that a lot of us started to think that the Kings might be winners while rebuilding, which is almost impossible to do. But just because results are mixed right now doesn't mean that there's not hope for the future.
The important thing for me is to just hope that the Kings win and get things together, but hey, if they don't, I'm patient. If they don't make the playoffs this year it means better draft position and a shot at the top 3 in the draft. If they do make the playoffs, I'll hold out hope that they'll surprise people. But I have a really hard time getting too down after these losses. I'm just pleasantly surprised when they win.

The thing that worries me the most is the impact of having a mediocre team precisely when the arena stuff is going on, as waning support of the casual fan doesn't help convince our fearless public leaders that the demand (from the Kings' fans, anyways) is necessarily there. I don't mean to sidetrack the thread, but a team playing well and firing up the fans means more support for a new arena from this particular group of consumers and more pressure to get it done.
Webber going down sunk us. Trading Webber and DC (smart moves in my opinion, but let's not rehash that) changed the dyanmics of the team and leadership. Right now it's a struggle, and I can be as impatient as anyone here, but I think no moves will be made for a while. RA has earned that respect and leeway based on his success, and I will give him the season without calling for his head. I think he might still pull it together, but it also sounds like he is really enjoying the opportunity to be a "free agent" after this season. Maybe he doesn't really like this team as much as some think he might either, as he has made references to personnel being the biggest reason for the defensive decline over the last couple years. Maybe he will see if another organization can offer something better in the offseason both salary- and personnel-wise. I don't think he's doing anything different than years past when he's had pretty good success here. Then again, maybe that's why he might be gone as well....

Changes will come, but probably not before December 15, which is the first day that players picked up or signed in the off-seaons can be moved. Decembre 15th is a week from this Thursday and before then the Kings have Cleveland, Houston, Seattle (road), New Orleans, Minny (road) and Detroit (road). So, by then the Kings' fate might be sealed as far as win/losses.

I don't foresee any moves until teams in the playoff hunt want to pick some veteran role players (which is what our starters essentially are) for their young talent.

We lost a physical, emotional and team leader in CWebb half way through last year. We lost another, and some say bigger, team leader the year before when Vlade left. After "The Trade" there were new faces and new playing styles and all gently went down the tubes in March and April.
So now we have TWO more new faces, both starters, who have had some training camp and now, what, 17 games under their perverbial belts. Someone in this thread said earlier that it took 3 years to reach the 2002 dream year (it was actually 4 years from '98). And now 17 games and a month into the season and the word Panic has been mentioned?
Detroit and San Antonio are where the Kings were in 02, beyond actually since they both have won championships.
I was one who said 15-20 games were needed to see what kind of team we have this year. Maybe I should say what kind of team we don't have and now coaching staff has to make changes to get up a level and back to decent 500 ball then one more level up to contend in the division.
So put away your panic buttons and look at reality in the NBA. Nothing this new happens in 15 games. It may take until just before the All-Star break. But we had a heckava ride for 5 years. So cool it dudes and let's see what happens in Dec and Jan.

Why would there be a need to panic?
We have a coach who after every game says "I tell them to play better defense". "I just don't know what to do"
Our center calls us "fair-weather fans" because the crowd decides that just "showing up" for the game isn't enough.
It is clear that something needs to be done. New coach. New players. Something.... I think it is clear that we are in a rebuilding mode.......
