Is Chuck Hayes underutilized?

Yeah, but like many of Petrie fails, it just seems like it didn't pan out due happenstance. I don't remember many saying anything about the contract when he signed. He was looked as a solid big that was a good lockerroom guy as I recall. But maybe I'm wrong here

Oh you're quite wrong. He had his defenders. Then he had his me.

Asinine signing. Doubly asinine since it was made in place of Dalembert. Like Chuck as a person. My mom has a crush on him and he's her favorite King. But asinine signing. That was the summer/winter/strike/lockout that broke our rebuild. Still pisses me off. Chuck should not be here. Jimmer should not be here. Salmons should not be here. Outlaw should not be here. They are all still here. Let's get ready to rumble!! In one corner wearing the Kings trunks we have Chuck Hayes, Jimmer Fredette, John Salmons and Travis Outlaw! In the other corner wearing the Knicks/Rockets/Spurs trunks we have Samuel Dalembert, Beno Udrih and Kawhi Leonard!

grrrr...

Grrrrr......

not to forget it was also the offseason we got that former GSW headcoach as an assistant...

the whole thing was made even more frustrating because the team that finished the season was doing so well and all the decisions to be made were so bleeding obvious. extend the guys that helped stabilise the ship, draft the guy that's basically the perfect fit for the team needs and do *nothing* else, but watch that team develop. worst. offseason. ever.

I think you guys have a soft spot for Chuck Hayes and that's understandable. But let's not get carried away.

Last year Chuck Hayes had a TS of 47% and rebound rate of 14%, both terrible for a big man, let alone a center. His turnover rate is higher than his rebound rate; he blocked 0.5 shot every 36 minutes, and his offensive rating exactly equaled his defensive rating when he was on the floor.

He is not a difference maker. The year before that, he was worse across the board.

Hayes is not underutilized. He has tremendous lower body strength, and plays smart bball. He provides a strong bench and locker room presence. Westphal went so far as to call him "the heart of the Kings." He is valuable role player. Nothing more, but nothing less either.

The problem is that with our current roster, we've been forced to play him against centers. All his numbers would go up, if he was playing against power forwards, which he is. As strong and as talented at positioning as he is, he's not gonna gather many rebounds against NBA talent that that is anywhere from 5-10"+ longer than he is

Huh?

With our roster, there's no need to play him at center. JT, Cousins, and N'Diaye can man those positions for all 48 minutes.
Cousins, Outlaw, Patterson, and Luc can man the PF position for all 48 minutes.
Chuck should never see floor time at any position.

Huh?

If I understand right, then you say we've been forced to play Chuck at C and then say Chuck is playing against PFs. You mean he isn't, right?

Chuck Hayes isn't any more effective at 4 than he is at 5. Statistically, not much difference. The league is going toward stretch 4s with length to contest shots on the perimeter. Hayes has neither.

We have a 4 with the mentality of a 5 but the length of a 2. He is the anti-versatile. Hayes is another piece that needs to get moved to make room for pieces that fit better or pieces with higher ceiling.

You just don't play him against stretch 4's. Only low post power forwards. Especially the ones who aren't extremely long. Tonights example is Paul Millsap, who I would be interested to see Hayes play against
