So many thoughts, so little space. A ton of stuff happened in Thursday’s game, so I decided to just write a bunch of random thoughts. Here goes:

Random Thoughts…

*It’s apparent how quickly Cuttino Mobley is fitting into the offense. He came out off the opening tip whipping passes all over the place and looking very comfortable with what the team is trying to accomplish offensively. Opponents are really going to pay for double-teaming anybody on this team, because there isn’t one starter who isn’t able or willing to knock down a jumper.

*Continuing with the Mobley theme, does anyone else notice how much of a second half player he’s been so far. He’s struggled in the first half of every game he’s played with the Kings and excelled after that, including Thursday when he scored 12 points in the second half.

*As opposed to other years, the Kings retro jerseys appear to be off to a good start—now 2-0. It’s probably the baby blue, and the fact that they look cooler than the past throwbacks. If you can buy yourself a pair of the authentic shorts, do it. They’re really sweet.

*OK, the stitch thing is getting out of control. First it was Brad getting kneed in the shin against Miami right before Christmas and opening up a big gash. Then Greg Ostertag and Mo Evans needed stitching up versus Utah last week—now Mike Bibby gets cut above his right eye? It’s getting ridiculous. His eyebrow is going to need some serious tlc this week—it was not pretty.

*Funny moment late in the game. Drew Gooden drove the lane on a fast break and appeared to try and throw the ball off the glass intentionally to himself so he could then dunk it. The only problem is that this move is usually reserved for All-Star games and dunk contests, and also there were two Kings there to foul him and keep him from completing the total maneuver. The funny part was watching his veteran teammate Lucious Harris look at the Kings bench and press row, roll his eyes as if to apologize, and just shake his head at the young fella as he walked back to Cavs sideline.

*Michael Bradley saw his first action with the Kings late on Thursday and showed that he knows what to do with the basketball around the basket. The guy has talent and could be a factor for the team somewhere down the line.
So much for local media saying that Cuttino wasn’t much of a passer. Through four games he’s averaging 4.0 assists per game. When will people learn that Rick Adelman and Co’s system makes players better passers?

*Mike Bibby got a nice little treat for getting his second career triple-double—an ice bath from Chris Webber as soon as he walked into the locker room after his postgame TNT interview.

*A smiling Webber sent a message to the morning guys over at KHTK. As a reporter asked a question in the locker room after the game, Webber cut her off and informed her that he knew of the ongoing odds the KHTK morning show had placed on whether or not he would play half the season, and that he was about to pass that mark. He then smiled and went on answering the question.

*Any skit at ARCO this season that involves Air Slamson, the blowup version of the Kings’ mascot that can bounce on its head and shrink to name a few things, is funny. But Air Slamson may have been at his best on Thursday when the Cavs mascot, Air Moon Dog, joined him for a little fun session on the court. Let’s just say there was some licking of security guards, a lot of falling down, and even a glimpse of Air Slamson’s backside.

*Was it just me, or did anyone else half expect Joe Gibbs and John Riggins to come running out of the tunnel when the Cavs came out for pregame warm-ups? Those retro Cleveland jerseys are the NBA’s version of the Washington Redskins’ pro football unis.

The triple-double rule is envoked here. Anytime a player on the winning team gets a triple-D, he's automatically the player of the game

“[The Rose Garden] It isn’t nothing like this one. You can’t compare the Rose Garden to this. They’re rocking every time in here regardless whether their team is winning or losing. I think the crowd here is the best in the NBA hands down, besides Cleveland.”

Chris Webber's three-pointer at the end of the first half put Sacramento up by 11 points. That was until the Cavs slung the ball down the court to Drew Gooden, who dunked the ball with 0.1 left before the horn sounded. Still, the Kings had total momentum thanks to an 18-9 run and kept it in the second half.

TOP STAT: FG %: Sacramento 53.8%, Cleveland 40.9

I'm liking the way Cat is coming alive in the second half and it's really nice to have someone who can hit those wide open threes when they are given the shot.

Happiness aside, I still think Sunday's game will be the determining factor that will put us within the top 5 teams in the NBA.

Watched the guy for years in Houston. Get used to this, its what he does.

On Rockets broadcasts they used to give some stat about Mobley's scoring average going way up in 4th quarters.

It seems like every time Sac plays SA people say the same thing. They beat them the last time they played them. By doing that, did that place them in the top five or do they have to beat SA every time they play them to be considered a top team. And if they win Sun. will the same thing be said about Thurs. game?

I still think a SA/Sac playoff series would be VERY interesting. The thing people miss is that San Antonio simply is NOT as defensively dominant against us as they are against everybody else. We are the ultimate jumpshooting team, and the key to the whole Spurs defense is their interior shotblocking. That's of less relevance against us than it is against most teams -- we win outside in, not inside out. If by some chance that last performance by Peja against Bowen was not a fluke, and he's found the solution there, San Antonio does NOT want to face us come playoff time.

Not to go all Piksi on y'all, but didn't they get fo' out of fo' last season against us in the regular season?

Kings keep matching up against the Spurs better and better. With the aition of Cat Bowen climbing into Pedja's jersey should be much less detrimntal. Brad usualy plays very well against the Spurs and Webber seems to be enjoying challnages like Duncan more and more... this could well be the line up Pop fears most.

Nope. 2-2 last year. 1-1 this year.

Had this discussion before with Lakers fans. We play them about even every year. And last year we were of course missing a certain superstar PF. Minor little deficiency when facing a team who's own key player is also a superstar PF.

true...

it would be interesting to play them in a playoff series.

If we beat them Sunday, I think we'll have a good claim to the unofficial #2 team spot in the west (Spurs are still the #1 team to beat until someone beats them in a playoff series this season IMO). The Suns have that 6 game losing streak, the Sonics lost to the Wolves tonight and are probably the only other claimants to the #2 spot, and we all have seen how underwhelming the Wolves have been so far this season.

Yeah Brick, we do win outside in, but one thing I noticed tonight... We are a "Much" better half court team than Phoenix or Seattle. We can run (especially now that we have Cat)... but we don't have to as much as Phoenix needs to, and we can shoot... but we don't have to rely on it as much as Seattle needs to. That is one of the reasons we match up well against the Spurs( if we are exicuting in the half court) We aren't just a jumshooting team, we are also a backdoor cut and pass team. Even though we are at our best when we hit our outside shots, and we have to to beat an elite team... in the last 2 min of a close game we have a lot of ways to carve up a defense.

Yes, see the problem with these mid-season 'statement games' is the statement only lasts until the next loss, it seems. Watch for falling sky comments should the Kings lose EITHER of those two games. Take cover for sure if they should happen to lose both. I prefer to think of them more as barometer games, or advance scouting games;)

Yep, KG, it'll be the same ol' story with some...sigh....unless of course we win them both! ;)
