Impressions of Nocioni Thread

Nocioni wont be stealing JT's minutes as long as JT isnt in foul trouble.
Since Garcia has been showing alot of PG skills the last cuple of games I'm thinking we are going to use him there more often and Noc at the SF position.

My favourite part of the game last night was when Chapu poked the ball out of David west Hands then dove out of bounds trying to save the ball to a teammate and Kenny Natt ran over and yanked him up by the arm as fast as he could and patted him on the back and pushed him back on the court.

Noc>Garcia, i really wouldnt mind trading garcia if the right deal came along to get a point guard or something. One of their contracts has to go anyway, and i have a feeling Garcia will be the easiest one to rid of.

I agree. Not a huge fan of Nocioni's conract but I would rather trade Garcia at some point down the road than Nicioni. His energy and attitude is refreshing, and will continue to rub off on the other guys. Three years ago I thought Garcia would develope into a more consistent scorer and playmaker, and I don't think he has fullfilled his potential. I would rather have Nocioni's hustle and timely shots, and run Donte out there 20+ min a game.

I would say that Nocioni is the type of mentor Garcia needs. I wouldn't move Garcia just yet, either, as you still need to field a full bench. Getting rid of people at this point doesn't make much sense. Ideally, I'd keep both, as I see both filling an important role for the next 2-3 years (contracts nonwithstanding.)

After watching the Hornets game, I have come to more conclusions about Nocioni that I think are positives:

1. He is going to hustle all the time... if Greene, Garcia, Hawes, and JT want to cut into his minutes or not lose minutes to him, they too will need to bring their all-hustle, 100% effort games every night. That is a HUGE plus for the Kings... now, how long until they figure that out? I hope Greene sees it soon.

2. Salmons may have more "talent", however, Nocioni scored about the same amount of points/rebs as Salmons on any given game, however, Nocioni also made his teammates better by passing the ball (remember, "PASS THE BALL, JOHN! PASS THE BALL!) and hustling on both ends of the floor. If Salmons were on the floor last night, I feel like the Kings never make a run, Martin is held to 12 points, and the game is a 20+ point blowout. With Nocioni, Martin ties the Arco record for scoring in a quarter (24), the Kings did not get blown out, and the game was close. A HUGE difference between players in my opinion.

Just a couple more impressions...

After reading and re-reading this statement about 5 times now, I still am amazed that you basically just compared Noc to Mikki.
Thanks for all the attention. I left out a couple. He has a contract that everyone hates and thinks is too long, and he's taking PT away for the rookies.

Being originally from Chicago, I've maintained an interest in the Bulls, & have alway liked Noc. I've posted that I was in favor of the trade, as long as he is moved before the 2010/2011 season. That way his salary doesn't eat into the cap space we gained by moving Miller. As far as his game, I see him being the starting SF & backup PF. His presence takes some pressure off Donte, and hopefully Greene can win the starting SF position before next seasons trade deadline. If not, we should start looking somewhere else for our next SF, either in the 2010 draft or throw trade.

Natt keeps playing small ball when JT only had four fouls entering the 4th quarter.. Also, Natt didn't take him out when he got his 2nd foul..

Natt is completely retarded when it comes to managing the lineup and rotations. I wouldn't be surprised if JT wasn't in foul trouble if he still only got 15-18 minutes. Just watch.. You all know it's going to happen. I like Nocioni, but I don't think he should be stealing JT's minutes.

I hope you aren't referring to JT...

foul trouble...

After only being with the team less than an hour and hadn't even been at a walkthrough, Natt had him play 30mins & JT got 18mins. (and he hadn't fouled out) In the second game JT had 5 fouls, but never got back into the game after the 5th, and Nocioni finished the game by having two 3pt shoots blocked.

So, yes, I'm talking about JT. JT gets 6 fouls and if he's not fouled out he needs to be playing. I'm not making a judgement of who is better, I'm saying with only 24 games left, every opportunity for the core players to get PT must be taken. Everyone who has seen Noc play knows what he brings, but wins without development of our future, will be hollow accomplishments at best.

Honestly, Nocioni was playing too well on defense, and hustling all over the court, to take him out. He had more of an impact on the game than you will see in the box score, and he elevated everybody else's intensity level on our team. I would have put Garcia on the bench for a few more minutes, moved Noc to the 3, and put JT back in at the 4.

Nocioni is a sf, can he play pf kind of sometimes but u dont want to have a mismatch automatically. Wonder when gooden will suit up.

Never, I hope. Gooden in a uniform would definitely take away major minutes from Jason...

Good observation. So, let's bench Cisco for Noc & bench JT for Gooden. Hell, might as well bench Hawes. Let's forget about rebuiding and developing our youth, in favor of playing expiring contracts & role players so we can get some meaningless wins. ;)

Noc needs to be a backup to give our core players some rest or replace them if and when they foul out. There is no way of knowing for sure that playing JT at the 4 & Cisco at the 3 wouldn't have been more productive. All we know is that we tried to win games using vets at the cost of the development of our youth and it hasn't worked yet. It's time to stop.

Too late! Gooden says he's playing tomorrow.

I like Noc's game a lot. Think he'll be a good influence on our team (especially our younger players), and think it's far too soon to speculate on whether he should be traded or not. Yes, he's going to take some PT that may have otherwise gone to Greene. But I'd rather the team develop a hard-working, hard-nosed personality and give Green 2-3 years to develop into a solid all-around player. At that point, Noc may be just what we need to come off the bench.

Oh good...just what I wanted to hear. I didn't like the kewpie doll look when Bonzi was here and I'm certainly not looking forward to seeing it with Drew Gooden, who has always bugged me for reasons I cannot quite discern.

As an aside, he does bear more than a passing resemblance to KFBK radio host Jack Armstrong...

Nobody waits 2-3 years for a 1st round SF. If Greene cant get significant PT before next years trade deadline, we should give up on him. The Kings were willing to listen to offers for Noc at the trade deadline, so I imagine they'd move him the first chance they get just to get out of his contract & increase our cap space.

Until a new starting SF surfaces, Noc fits in nicely. Greene can still get minutes, while Garcia backsup Martin or plays PG. But, Natt needs to play JT as much as possible. We've already tried the play the vets over the rookies, and it didn't work. A new strategy is in order.

Actually, I don't mind if he suits up for the next couple of games, starts, and plays well, as long as two conditions are met

  1. We "lin" those games.
  2. More importantly, he accepts a buyout.
If so, everyone's happy. The owners are happy that they get to save some bucks. Fans are happy that we have effectively eliminated the chance that Geoff shall resign him. Gooden is happy that he gets to sign with a playoff bound team, and even Jason is happy that he doesn't have to come off the bench/look over his shoulder for the rest of the season. A perfect win-win :)

If he doesn't accept a buyout before March 1st, we should bench him the rest of the season.

I didn't say anything about taking minutes away from JT or Hawes. I like Nocioni more than Garcia and if Nocioni plays he should cut into Garcia's minutes. Taking minutes from JT and Hawes is the last thing we should do.

i saw this picture in the bee, i like nocionibut i found the picture funny look at the players body postion and there faces it had me and the wife laughing out loud

Good luck to THIS guy. He has the tools and all the compensation and none of the pressure. It should be an ideal situation for any 240lb. pf with any desire to compete. We got Nocioni to test K. Martin, its Petrie's modus operandi to do this. Kevin passes the Garcia test, and if he passes the Nocioni test we know he is the man to build about; if not, there are 30 teams in the NBA who think he is worth something. Nocioni by himself isn't that great of a prospect. The prospect of Kevin and Nocioni playing off each other(well) with Francisco shooting(well) and thompson rebounding(well) is strong. I think someone like Hasheem thabeet would fill that 5 spot extremely well along with Hawes. Im not a big fan of thabeet, nor of Nocioni, but i am a fan of the way Nocioni plays and the exact ceiling Thabeet reaches. All in all, Nocioni works as long as he doesn't get injured too bad.

No team is going to be building around Kevin. Nocioni and Martin may work out as a nice combo, but they need to be 2nd and 3rd options with a star/superstar to build around.
