Impressions of Nocioni Thread

I thought I would start a thread where we could discuss Andres Nocioni and how we feel about him as a player...

So far, he has only played one game for us, but I saw some things that made me say "WOW!".

Specifically, Andres got after loose balls and rebounds... not just sometimes... all the time... I think he could be the kind of player that gets a lot of boards and helps the other guys get a lot of boards.

Defense? Oh yes. He may not be a shot blocker, but he stayed with his guy and hassled people...

Team player? He set screens, passed effectively and played a nice, smart game. I did not see too many mental errors out there that could not be considered part of the fact that he did not know the offensive scheme. (Which is "If at first you don't succeed, keep on sucking 'til you do succeed" - Curley Fine)

I was really encouraged! I thought this guy was a prima donna, but that was not the case... he's blue-collar, tough, and a hustle player. Imagine what a lineup with Nocioni, Thompson, and Francisco is capable of? Out-working opponents... nice thought for the future... and what a great veteran role model for JT, Hawes, Greene (especially Greene), and the future youth of the Kings...

I was just really blown away that people were so down on getting him... he is the anti-Brad Miller.

I said the day of the trade the Nocioni would become a fan favorite, and I really believe he will. A lot of people don't like his contract, but what he does on the court and in the locker room is a breathe of fresh air. He never takes a night off.

Gotta say....I was down on the trade because of his contract.

But I'm really really happy with what I'm hearing about his play. We could use someone to turn the team culture around.

My impression of Nocioni in a nutshell:

¡Ayúdame! ¡Estoy en un cáscara de nuéz!

I like him so far. It's only one game, but bringing a new attitude is what this team needed.

My impression of Nocioni goes something like: "Hi, this is Andres Nocioni." Identifying who I'm supposed to be is pretty much the key to the impression, because I can't do the voice.

Meh... Yeah he hustles and calls out picks, but he'll never come close to earning that contract.

Man, people like saying "never" way too much. We don't know yet. He doesn't have a 10+ mil contract. He is not a star and he is not paid like a star anyway. This guy brings many things (intangibles) to our team. He is a great example for young players (no mental problems, practices hard, plays hard, is vocal on/and of the court), he is Italian-Argentinian and can be an ambassador for the team in Sacramento's Latino community and I think he can help Beno to return on the right track, I even hope that they will become friends because they have many things in common and Chapu is the right guy for our PG.

He's likeable, plays defense (better at the PF then SF & SG), & he's an energy guy. Wait, Isn't that what we said about MM?

If Salmons wasn't in our future, How can Nocioni? He's here & will play because Greene isn't ready & we need Cisco to be the 6th man backing up Martin & Beno. If Greene played defense & could start, Nocioni would be as supurfluous as Gooden.

The sooner we can move Noc, the sooner we can add his salary to our cap space. If he stays longer than 1 year, he'll start eating into the cap we gained by moving Miller. Greene needs to put in some serious work so we can move Noc by next years trade deadline. Otherwise, the Kings need to give up on Greene & start looking somewhere else for our future SF.

That being said, there is still a possibility of moving Greene to PF, though he'll probably always be a backup if they have to make that move.

I just wish he was a few years younger is all, I think his output is right on par of what we should expect from our SF.. He's a movable contract and that's a key point when we discuss him and it actually scales down. He's someone every team will actually like if we come to the point where we really need to trade him. He can add toughness, defense, a 3 point threat, and some scoring to any team that might be in the race for the title next year that might want to part with some of their assests (expirings, draft picks, prospects).

Everyone was dogging his contract, however, it is actually decreases each year, giving more cap space for attracting talent...

i like his game, he can put it on the floor enough, can shoot deep and can post up(if only brad miller cudda got a post game) a triple threat player every team needs one of those, he would have a better shot making a clutch basket on an iso then martin. But i would trade him to the spurs for hill and filler, and i want to see Donte get minutes he COULD be that poor man durant. But he does make our team more competitive, but do we want to do that now.

He'll probably end up getting his best (inflated) rebounding numbers, (see Wells, Bonzi) just because of his hustle and lack of competition from the other wing players.

That being said, there is still a possibility of moving Greene to PF, though he'll probably always be a backup if they have to make that move.

Greene at PF wouldn't work because he would easily get out muscled. The only reason he played well against Hakim Warrick is because Warrick isn't exactly the biggest PF in the league. He needs to learn to play small forward and that is only going to happen if we LET him play period. I swear if we trade him before we give him a chance with significant minutes im going to be pissed. The kid truly has star potential...we just have to let maturity and learning take its course.

He's always struck me as the kind of guy who, when he's on the other team you think he's a dirty player, but if he's on your team you love his grit and hustle.

He's taking minutes from JT so I don't think I am liking this much.. Actually Natt is taking minutes so I don't like him either.

No, in the interests of accuracy, the officials took minutes away from JT with a couple of ticky-tack fouls early on.

Its not Nocioni's fault. JT had early foul problems in the first quarter that preventative him getting more minutes.

When we got Nocioni's, I admit, I was very reluctant. However, seeing him in only 2 games, I'm actually impressed by him. Yea, I know, its only 2 games, but so far, I see what I like.

I disagree with the way JT has been handling the fouls, but so many of these have just been absurd. I almost always hate whiners, but it is crazy the amount of bad calls that have been made against him.

i was at the game tonight for the only player who was hustling and playing hard was Nocioni this guy is what us fans have been waiting for. on side note cp3 is freak i know he being guarded by beno but this guy is the real deal i was glad i got to see him play in person

I don't mind Nocioni taking minutes from Garcia, I actually like him more than Garcia. I don't want to see him take minutes from JT, although I don't see that hapenning. JT had to sit after picking up 3 fouls so quickly.

garcia will be back on the bench after the next game are lineup will be beno(man i cringe every time he is on the floor) martin nocini jt and hawes

Noc>Garcia, i really wouldnt mind trading garcia if the right deal came along to get a point guard or something. One of their contracts has to go anyway, and i have a feeling Garcia will be the easiest one to rid of.

garcia i wouldnt trade that guy.. hes a heart hustle player and he has some qualities that can make him a good leader when the time comes... also he has that good timing for blocks which is good for a guard

nocioni brings that attitude i really want our kings to have... the kind where in if they throw you down... you get em back work hard... get dirty not bowen dirty...
