Important Letter from Kings President Chris Granger

We cannot begin to express our gratitude for what you have done this year. Because of you, the Kings are here to stay. Because of you, we will break ground on a new downtown arena. Because of you, we are selling out again, with the highest growth in attendance in the entire NBA. Because of you, we are the World’s Loudest Arena. Because of you, this franchise has a second chance in a new era. Vivek has said it many times and we always have this top of mind: This is YOUR team. You have earned that time and time again.

Although we have accomplished much in the last year, we have so much more to look forward to. Our work is just beginning. We’ve seen moments like our epic opening night and our overtime victory vs. the World Champion Miami Heat, which gives us a glimpse into a very bright future on the court. We couldn’t be prouder of how DeMarcus and Isaiah have played at All-Star levels. The in-season additions of Rudy Gay and Derrick Williams have provided a spark of athleticism and leadership. We have a long-term plan to get us back to the playoffs and though we will not be satisfied until we get there, we’re pleased with the early returns. We all want to win as badly as you do, and we remain committed to our active but steady process to build toward competing for the championship that this city deserves.

Improving our team takes time and investments, but we’re not looking to cut any corners. Since Vivek and the new ownership group took over in May, we have increased our player payroll significantly and will be at or above the salary cap level. DeMarcus’s recent selection to the USA Men’s National team only solidifies what we already strongly believe; he is our centerpiece and we’ve committed to him with a maximum contract. The players we have kept and our trades for new pieces have put us on the path to improvement which we have sought. But know this: We are not finished improving and we’re ready to do what it takes.

Opening night at our new arena gets closer each day. The arena will be a spectacular celebration of all that is uniquely Sacramento. It will be a beacon for downtown and the entire region. We are well down the path of investing hundreds of millions into the new downtown arena and surrounding development, stimulating our local economy and providing over 4,000 jobs for our community. This has always been, and always will be, bigger than basketball.

You have overwhelmed us with your support of this organization. Along with our ownership group, we couldn’t be more excited to continue this journey together. Tomorrow, we will send the details of how to renew your seats for next season and maintain your priority for the new downtown arena. Those of you who have been with us for many years will notice that prices have increased for the first time in five seasons. As such, we will be offering an extended payment plan in order to ensure that your monthly payments can be lower than last season. We commit to you that we will spare no expense in bringing in players that give us the best chance to meet our goals. The same philosophy will apply to our new building. We’ll be working with the best of the best to provide you a crown jewel in the heart of Sacramento that will jumpstart our economy and be an arena that you will be proud to call home. On behalf of our ownership group and entire organization, thank you for your continued support of this team, the new downtown arena and our shared future with you.

And I almost forgot – as our season ticket holders, I’d love for you to be the first to see something very special. I will share with you more details at midnight tonight…

Forever Sacramento. Forever Purple.

-Chris

I actually got a little misty-eyed when I read that part.

So..I don't really care if they shape it like a giant piece of doggy doo, I just want it built. But am I terrible for thinking that that arena looks kinda like a giant squished aluminum can?

You aren't terrible but just accurate. I think in fact it is made of crushed aluminum cans among other things.

It reminds me of the Nest.

It might look kinda like a giant squished aluminum can, but dammit man, it's OUR giant squished aluminum can.

Am I the only person that sees a giant showercap? :)

:p ANY arena design is fine with me as long as they BUILD it, but my first honest reaction was "ew". And this is coming from a person who idolizes Frank Gehry. Personally I just wish they ran with the Kings theme if they were going bold... do a castle inspired modern architecture arena. But anyways.. doesn't matter now! Maybe the next one.. :) Go Kings!
