I'm Shocked!!!- The Kings Are Not a Good Team

At the beginning of the season, I know it was asked of us Kings Fans to be positive and support our team. I do support this team and the organization. But I am very shocked and very disappointed to see this team perform the way that they are performing. After tonight's game against the Blazers, I am convinced that this team is in for a long season.

You can say that I am giving up. But I dare anybody to come up with one reason why this team will make the playoffs. If this was happening on the road, and the team was playing well at home like most teams do, I would have at least a glimmer of hope. But to come out at Arco and put up a pathetic game like this....!!!! They were never in this game beyond a 12-4 lead in the first quarter.

The Kings are not even entertaining to watch anymore. :( I hope "The Sacramento Kings" show up at some point and turn the season around, because I don't know who this team is.

one reason we will make the playoffs:

Petrie pulls a rabbit out of his hat- we go.
Petrie keeps the team as is - we do not go.

MY OPINION - It is that simple.

By the way: You really should not be shocked.

This team, as I've said in other threads, is a collection of spare parts that simply is not going to run like a well-built engine. What surprises me is how surprised people are NOW to see them falter.

A number of us tried to point out core weaknesses after the SAR acquisition and we were pretty much told we weren't true fans. Well, now exactly what we predicted might happen, is happening. You can blame the team OR you can simply accept that this is a team in rebuild mode. It took Geoff Petrie five years to build the first true elite Kings team. This is the first year of the new construction project. It's not going to get better overnight and it's not going to lead to the promised land any time in the foreseeable future.

I don't want to sound rude at all, but if you're shocked about this, you really haven't been paying attention.

I love this team. I loved them through the horrible years, I loved them through the good years, and I loved them through the ELITE years. Now, I will love them through these years. But it's not going to be a task for the faint of heart.

Being a Kings fan isn't going to be all bragging and boasting and play-off runs, etc. At least not for a while...

I say we abort the princeton offense and go to the Stanford offense where our pgs can actually perform the duties of a pg . Chris Hernandez style ;) .

We won't make the playoffs.

I am trying to get used to the idea that this just isn't a very good squad. High expectations have made it tough to watch and not get mad. If I can just somehow get the idea in my head that this is a lousy team, I could probably once again watch the Kings just for the sake of watching the Kings.

Not easy to do :)

i'm hoping a loss at home to the worst team in the western conference will FINALLY convince somebody in the kings front office that changes MUST be made.

You just figured this out???

Yep!!! And I am not ashamed to say it. I held out hope that at some point this thing would turn around. I was one of the ones that had blinders on. I was the myopic, the one that covered up all of deficiencies with a bunch of excuses.

I deserved to be ridiculed!!!

I actually like the blinders. They go well with the rose-colored glasses that I choose to wear from time to time. I still think that we have time to improve. Look at me putting the glasses AND blinders on. We will win tomorrow.:D

Nah Purple Reign, you're an old school member, and a good one. You don't deserve to be ridiculed for having faith. I was accussed of being one of the most pessimistic unrealistic posters on this board by many Kingsfans, and even I didn't think they would be this bad... I don't think anyone did.

You mean to tell me that at the beginning of the season, you thought the Sacramento Kings were not going to make the playoffs??

The thought never, ever, ever crossed my mind that this team with the talent that has been assembled WAS NOT GOING TO MAKE THE PLAYOFFS. I do pay attention and have watched every single game. To me this is not about rebuilding, this is about major under acheivement. This team has more talent and should have more chemestry than the other non playoff teams in the West.

I'm shocked as hell!!!

I did think it was possible, but when Amare went down...This team just doesn't fit well together.

Hey! I like this, except, well, Stanford hasn't been doing the best this year either. It's a tough year for me... :(

At the beginning of this season, I had very real concerns about the dynamics of the team that would be taking the court. I believe I said so a number of times.

Our players, taken individually, have a lot of talent and have done, for the most part, good things in their careers. Unfortunately, you can have all good ingredients and still not have a good result. Recipes aren't only for cooking. The recipe for a good team has to include balance, and this team just doesn't have it. It's not their fault. You can't make an egg into a cup of baking soda just because you need the egg. Does that make the baking soda bad? Of course not. It just means it's not what the current recipe calls for.

This team, as currently structured, has deep and fatal flaws. Toilet paper left out in the rain is tougher.

I hoped for more, but didn't expect a lot. Its just turned out even worse than I thought it might be. (Of course, I tend to be a pessimist.;))

To borrow a word from the title of this thread...I would be SHOCKED if Petrie doesn't see aneed for changes at this point. But he has a very hard game to play. Like chess he has to plan many moves in advance and hope his opponents can't figure out his plan. Go get 'em Geoff!

I don't think that Petrie is going to make a move for this season. If a move is made this season, it is for next season not a push for the playoffs.

1. I'm pretty sure this Blazers loss is the final straw for someone. A change is likely coming somewhere.

2. This is not a bad team or at least it shouldn't be. It's not a Great team, maybe an average team, but currently it is a very underachieving team. This team has more talent than it did last year after the Webber trade. That team at the end of last year was playing better than this team right now. This isn't a talent issue.

Oh, I wasn't saying when. I just meant there will be changes. It could be soon, it might not be until summer. It is interesting to note that in all GP's time here, he never made any mid-season trades until last year.

And last year showed that he was right in not making those mid-season trades.

Well, those trades may not have turned out very well, but I did not think that team was a serious contender before the trades.

Maybe not, but we have gone from not serious contender to stinking.

We'll never know will we? They may not have been a serious contender but IMO, they were in a much better position both in terms of talent and trading pieces/cap space. We are in big trouble, this is why you don't just make moves to make them, Petrie better think it out better this time.

I'll state again: It took Geoff Petrie FIVE YEARS to build the first elite Kings team. It may well take him at least two or three years to get us back to anything approaching that status. That's being realistic.

If you don't think you can stand to watch the metamorphosis process, you might seriously think about finding something calmer - like curling - to watch.

I will have patience, because I have to. I am prepared to go through whatever will come and cheer while doing so. The Kings are my team, so there is no other option. Period.
