Iggy.. AGAIN..

So here we go again.. offered it in a thread a while back and again recently, but let's hear the responses :

Kings trade : #5, Outlaw(9mil/3yrs)

Sixers trade : Iguodala(30mil/2yrs), #15

I thought originally about Salmons over Outlaw but I think it's a stretch with Phillly including their pick which i'd like to have more then the 7mil in cap between Salmons and Outlaw.

Iggy is just about the perfect SF to our team - All-World defender, fantastic passer, great rebounder, flourish on the fast breaks in a fast tempo game, very underated catch-and-shoot player (one of the leaders in the league for a few years now) which would work great with Demarcus once he start demanding double teams, or Tyreke in his dishouts after penetration.

Also a a proven vet and recent All-Star, a leader - someone unlike Chuck who demands respect from his play aswell - possibly culture changing from a defensive/professional standpoint - yet still willing to take a backseat to our top-guns offensively unlike say a guy like Rudy Gay - and focus on doing the dirty work defensively.

We move away from Barnes/Drummond on rookie contracts, and also on the chance of MKG dropping to 5th which I think is the ideal situation for us draft-wise - but we get our ideal even-if-overpaid SF, and also get to drop Outlaw's long-term deal off the books - while more importantly gain the #15 pick, where we're very likely to have atleast one of Leonard, Henson, Zeller, Terrence Jones drop to us - guys we are known to like for our frontcourt as is (some claim we might even pick with the 5th) who can step in and contribute.

All in all the only real risk is us losing Iggy on free agency in 2 years time(he's gonna use his player option I assume) or atleast having to slightly overpay to retain him longterm(Although obviously less then his current deal) - and also getting a super athletic SF who'll be 30 when his contract runs out, time where the athletic ability begins to fade and injuries might start to kick in.

Financially we take on Iggys overpaid 30mil contract - but again we rid ourselves of the useless Outlaw earning 9mil, and also pay about 6-7mil less on the rookie contract with the 15th compared to the 5th - so all in all we take on about 15 milion in salary overall.

*I've heard very positive responses from Sixers fans across the web to this, pretty much the vast majority of them were absolutely on board.

I don't know, personally I'd rather pick Barnes or MKG. I like Iggy, but I'm not willing to trade our 5th pick. Then, I don't see the magoofs taking that kind of contract, especially if you think they have to pay (at least, I hope) for Tyreke next year.

That's an obvious consideration for me/us. The contract is the big killer of course. Then agian the contract is the onoly reason Philly might, and I repeat MIGHT, be interested. In any case, MKG's best case is often called Iggy, and if you have a chance at the genuine article with vet expereicne and a guarantee that he'll be Iggy, as opposed to possibly busting...well.

I love Iggy. But it all depends on who's there at 5. If MKG falls to 5, you take him. Anyone else, you look closely at a trade, IMO.

Yeah, MKG is essentially a young Iggy, if he's available at 5.

But this is exactly the kind of move the team needs to make. If they can add an above avg starting vet while still picking in the lottery, the offseason will be a success.

14M next year then 15M the year year after:eek: No wonder Philly has been shopping him every off-season. It's not that he's not skilled but grossly overpaid. Anyways this does not make it past the Magoofs desk.

Iggy is absolutely the perfect player for this team. He's the 2nd best perimeter defender in basketball, he's a fantastic passer/ball-handler, he rebounds well, and most importantly, he doesn't need to score to be a valuable player on the floor. If we're serious about trying to make the playoffs the next few seasons, he absolutely makes perfect sense to add an elite defender to our all offense/no defense mentality of players.

Iggy is superior anybody we could get in the draft, if only because he's a known commodiity, and all draft picks are frought with risk. That said, it's just not going to happen, imo. A #5 pick is much less expensive than Iggy. The Maloofs just aren't going to go there....

Other than money, I'm curious why Philly would want to part with Iggy. He was their best player in the playoffs, and I doubt they get to the playoffs without him. I know there's always speculation about him every year, and wonder who in fact its coming from. I like Iggy a lot. He would bring some of that veteran leadership we need and desire. And as stated, I don't know if the Maloofs are willing to take on his salary.
