If Petrie Makes the Pick....

Kingster

Hall of Famer
...then don't you think he has to go BPA? Don't the chances of him trading up/down or making other trades for Draft Day go down greatly if he is still the GM? After all, he's most likely only going to be an interim GM or maybe or consultant, that is if they just don't let him go entirely. Trading a pick, going after certain players, involves strategy and a vision of what this team should look like in the future. It seems unlikely that Vivek is likely to tie himself to a Petrie strategy this early in his tenure, when he's seen the poor results of that strategy for several years now.

i think its a win win situation.... Petrie makes the pick with the "help" of the new group (eg they decide BPA or Position or whatever...)

If its a star - Kings win and Petrie is seen to have helped with his last move

If its a bust - On petries head and can be moved on by new owners who say they want to start fresh

Okay in all honesty what would your reaction be if he drafted Zeller?

I seriously doubt Petrie will make the pick unless he's staying on as GM next season. Otherwise I think you'll see a new GM hired who will make the pick. And pretty much anyone that would be considered for a GM role should already have a firm handle on the players in this draft. At best I could see Petrie stay on for a season or two as a consultant and offering his intel on this draft's talent to the new decision maker.

Notion of BPA is too subjective. Even more so after we hear for weeks that there's no franchise-changers but rather hardly separated group of prospects. Kings' roster must be almost completely overhauled for this team to stop being offense oriented. Thus any ball-handler and scorer will have a hard time finding success playing in Sacramento that may result in another T-Rob type of situation, so you better pick either all-rounder like Porter or defensive stud with role-playing skill-set on offense like Noel, Oladipo or Adams.

I know people wont agree and im not saying its the best choice but I say we go PG and get burke. trade IT or TD and Thornton, move jimmer to SG and keep. We have some decent PG's but we need someone more solid imo.

Jimmer to SG? So the starting backcourt would be Burke and Fredette?

GP's recent quotes have said that you have to look at it from the BPA perspective until you know where your drafting and cos focus on projecting who might be there and the teams needs.

If Vivek & Co decides to blow it up, there's no way to know the team needs.

translation: kingster desperately hopes that vivek & co decide to blow it up, first by letting tyreke evans walk in free agency, and second by trading the "uncontrollable" demarcus cousins...

;)

Reports out of my head this morning state that we are to get the first pick in this years draft.. So we take Noel.

Beceause when you start with a core of nothing you have no where to go but up!

We must be reading similar tea leaves...

The translation is that Kingster isn't willing to make the assumption that a blow up could not occur under the new regime. All options are on the table. Everything from status quo (wait and assess for a year) to a complete blow up.

A chain of events is about to start. The beginning of the process is the authority Petrie is given for the draft. The dominos will start to fall once we see the extent to which he has discretion going forward.

i think you're right not to make the assumption that a complete blow-up is out of the realm of possibility. i was just having a laugh at your expense...

;)

personally, i am clinging to the hope that the new regime retains demarcus cousins and re-signs tyreke evans, because i believe that the playoffs are around the corner for a team anchored by those two pieces, filled in with defensive talent, and coached by a disciplined veteran. but i am well aware of the fact that ranadive and co. might have different opinions about how to build a contender...

What do you propose we do with Reke?

A Burke-Fredette backcourt avg heigh is 6'1. not much defense. no thanks. ill say no to this 25/8. im okay with getting burke, but not in that scenario for sure

Did he say START Jimmer at SG? No, rest assured that in that scenario, Reke is our starting SG.

I'd much rather have Otto Porter. SF is the most glaring need on this team, and Noel will get blown around like a twig in the NBA.

I think I'm almost as interested in the process going forward as the results of the process. For example, is Vivek going to personally interview the players on this team? If so, what might some of those questions be? Looking forward to hear more from Vivek on his thought process of how to build this team.

You realize that Porter weighs 198 lbs right? Both guys are going to need to mature physically and will get pushed around quite a bit until they do. I like Porter a lot but he's going to struggle early on - more than I think most people realize. As a point of reference, Tayshaun Prince weighed 15-20 lbs more coming out. Where it will hurt Porter the most is finishing inside, fighting through picks and defending bigger guys. Carmelo and LeBron will physically overwhelm him.

Noel will get thrown around in the post and against a team like Memphis he'll be a liability. But skinny, athletic, weakside shotblockers tend to contribute early on.

I think the deciding factors for me are that shotblockers are harder to get than good roleplaying wings and that while Porter should be a very high level roleplayer and glue guy, he's not a good shooter and his awful mechanics suggest he never will be, and that's something we need if Tyreke is a starting guard.

And that's no slight on Porter. I'd be happy to see the Kings get him, but I'd prefer Noel in terms of fit and longterm potential.

Not really worried about Noel's weight. Guy is only 19 and still has years before he's done maturing physically. If he was 22-23, I'd be concerned, but he's still got a few years to put on the weight

I'm with you on this one. I'd love to be a fly in the room when those interviews take place, and I'm sure they will. I think Vivek is going to be very hands on in certain areas. He has a reputation for being an innovator, so it should be very interesting to watch the progress.

I'm with you on this one. Once in the NBA they'll lock him in the weight room with tons of the right food and won't let him out until he reaches 220 pounds. However, I do find his knee problems troublesome. This is his second knee problem. It may end with this one, hopefully, but one has to worry about it becoming chronic. Hey, maybe we can sign Oden just in case......:D

If we fall to pick 7-ish, I wouldn't mind Zeller - Move DMC to PF and Zeller to C.

And if they ever trade DMC, i'm walking away from this team. "Ooooh, he's uncontrollable!"... and? Who really cares? Is it causing locker room problems? Then get players that aren't little girls and can deal with an angry teammate.

Then you must be advocating trading Tyreke, who Napier has said does not want to play with Cousins. It's an interesting choice: Tyreke or Cousins? Who do you want?

When asked yesterday the same question Grant pondered a while and finally said: Tyreke.

Grant did say, however, that Tyreke would be the 3rd or 4th best player on a very good team.
