I really think next year is our year

I think the team we had at the beginning of last year seriously underachieved. Far too much talent to have been that inconsistent. There were too many factors behind the scenses that added to the early demise including simply trying to figure everything out. Another thing is that they were not very well prepared at all. Ron can take some credit for our miraculous turnaround, but that fact is it wasn't he alone. The others really stepped it up and played their butts off. That and the team started to mesh and got to know eachother.

We should make the playoffs without too much difficulty, but we are a first to second round exit at the most unless we make some signifanct moves to get better defensively. Petrie sure is taking his time...

unless we can get a big man to clog the paint we will NEVER win a championship. Teams can simply run lay-up drills past Miller and 2nd string opposing centers will constantly have 20pt/15reb career nights.
DING DING DING!!! And THIS wins this thread.;) Teams have been having fun conducting lay-up practice pretty much since the Kings got here in 1985...we've never really had that presence here in a big man to clog up the middle on a consistant basis...a somewhat dominant force. I'm starting to like the idea of Etan Thomas(not that he's the ultimate answer, but he's a start)...but I doubt that will happen...just a feeling. He's 6'10/265 and moves well with or without the ball, he's been relatively healthy for his career, with the exception of 2004 when he missed most of that season with an abdominal injury. I think he would fill an obvious need for us...thats the exact reason why I feel he isnt coming here anytime soon.

...and for what reason, we wont know until something actually happens...hopefully this isnt all for the uber-soft Darius freaking Songaila...that's a huge step back, IMO.

If we wanna get anywhere close to that championship;
(1) Bonzi must be re-signed, or traded for a player that will help us in our weaknesses if he cant be resigned. We can't loose him for nothing, that'll be a huge blow.

(2) Brad Miller CANNOT be our starting center, not saying he shouldn't be on the team but something has to be done about that, We need a shot-blocker beside him.

(3)SHOTBLOCKER- Williams was a positive move in the right direction but for our future, there are plenty of defensive bigs I'm sure we could trade for that are capable of playing 25 + minutes for us;
Gadzuric, E. Thomas, Haywood, Kaman.. Just a few to name but I'm sure if we made the appropriate deal we could get one of these guys.
(4)We should sign a vet point guard, to help out with Douby and Price, teach them the ways, because these guys have never played in big games, and I'm almost positive IMO most of us would rather have Douby or Price backing Bibby.

(4) Lets get Corliss, Thomas out of here, and try and get some value, I don't care if its picks or cash, we need to free up those spots.

If alls well and all of this stuff does happen yea I can possibly see us being a championship contender this year or next year.

a team like this could challenge;

Kaman/Gadzuric
Abdur Rahim(or Miller)/Wright
Artest/Martin/Garcia
Bonzi/Martin/Ariza
Bibby/Douby/Price

I am curious as to how much RA pushed and practiced with Brad Miller on timing and shot blocking and how much he worked on offense? I am just thinking what the coach pushes and practices and preaches during practice and camp will make a difference. RA was not the same type of coach as Musselman.

remember in 03-04?
brad miller was a beast on the boards and blocked shots
then, something happened last year
i doubt adelman just STOPPED preaching a certain type of objective to him.

It is way too early to figure that next year is our year. If we sign Bonzi, I figure on 45 wins and out in round 1 (or 2).

To have a shot at a championship, we have a lot of holes to fill. Most of that is in the front court. We desparately need some front court D. So, it will all depend on what other moves GP can make.

Brad Miller blocks by year:

'99 0.47
'00 0.64
'01 0.67
'02 0.54
'03 0.59
'04 1.19
'05 1.21
'06 0.78

Brad Miller has NEVER at any point been a monster inside. But believe it or not, you've seen the most effective Brad has ever been right here in Sacramento under Adelman.

we won 44 games even with the aweful 1st half and with Peja and all the injurys to bonzi, SAR. I feel as is we win 50-55 with no problem

Same thing Denver thought last year. Fast closes are often fools gold. Facing a full long season with all the flaws and everybody having time to fully settle in and adjust you rarely just pick up the next November and keep rolling. Reality sets in, the intiial emotional push is expended. And then to repeat you really have to be solid. We could win 50+, maybe. But we've got far more issues and holes to figure out than any other team expecting to hit that number.

I'd love to be that optimistic, honest I would. But I simply do not see us getting 50+ without addressing the very things that took us out in round 1. Primarily, I still think our 4 position is simply not good enough to get the job done...

VF, Kenny Thomas is a good PF i might sound ridiclous but hes a good PF he might be inconsistant but still hes productive. the only way we get a PF is to give up a good player.. ala Brad/Kevin Martin/Bibby..etc..etc.

No, Kenny Thomas ISN'T a good power forward. He's simply too small to effectively play the 4. And there's the problem that you can't depend on him. You can't call someone "good" and then admit they're inconsistent.

I have loved this team since 1985. I've watched the good times, the bad times and the "Oh, this is so bad I can't even bear to watch" times.

This is NOT a championship caliber team quite yet. But I've said it before and I'll say it again - it took Petrie a couple of years to assemble the first truly elite Kings team. I believe he can do it again.

I did not mean trading all of them but only Brad KM or Bibby. cause in reality we're not getting a good PF without giving up a major peice. we're stuck with Kenny Thomas unless something amazing comes up and we can't refuse.

I'd take the garlic fries and a Corona. :p

And you'd give me the Corona, right???

You betcha!

and I would, of course, treat you to the large size iced beverage of your choice.

Hey, that wasn't hard. If we can come to some kind of agreement this quickly, why can't the NBA?

;)

Brad, if the PF is good enough. Bibby or KM if the PF is REALLY good. We need a C as well to really make a run.

Dallas was on a "team building" year this year and they almost (??) had it.

If we get a good spot in the playoffs -4th is perfect. It would be fun but unlikely to watch us go all the way.

Defense wins championships. Kings have Defense. Maybe Ron can REMIND Brad what that means ;)

All the pieces are there. It is a TOUGH Western Conference. But with a lil' luck, they could go deep in the POs. Another Eastern style team in the West could put a LOT of hurt on the opposition.

IMHO, still need another big body though. Shaq may be covered (Corliss), but he is in the wrong confrence now...
