I have HAD IT with how this team (doesn't) use Demarcus!

I feel like another issue is that when Cousins does get the ball remotely close to the post, it seems like other players often inadvertently bring their defenders INTO the paint and make things worse.

No you're not. Well, you may be, although given your history on this topic I can't be sure, but Kingster is back on his Reke is lazy and never works on his game train. Just pointing out that either that jumper has magically corrected itself or there has been significant work put in.

You must think that all the hard and intelligent work that Tyreke has put in has created the following progression:

FG% 3PT%

Yr 1 .458 .255
Yr 2 .407 .291
Yr 3 .410 .250

You overstate your case using the word "lazy", but to my mind he's either not working out hard and long enough or he's not working out intelligently enough, or both. Or, worst case scenario is that he is a Kobe Bryant workout monster and he's put in all that incredible work in intelligent fashion and he has nothing to show for it. Now that would be depressing...

All you have to do is look at the end product in Year 3 and compare to Year 1. Sure, there is an incremental change in his shooting form on his outside set shot. I'll give you that. Other than that, what exactly? The left hand, the runner, the mid-range, the post up game? Nada. He had months this past extended summer and months the preceeding summer to get appreciably better. He hasn't. Yet others around the league have gotten a lot better. So, show me the results, Tyreke. Otherwise, you're a one-trick pony that's going to limit the potential of this team by not fulfilling your own potential. And if people wonder why there is a discussion on the subject of Tyreke, as opposed to say a guy like Greene, or Thompson, it's obvious. Tyreke has huge potential. The other players (other than Cousins) don't. It's Tyreke and Cousins or bust. Anyway, I've said enough on the subject. We'll all be waiting again for this next off-season to hear if he's working on his game. Personally, I could care less what "reports" I hear about his next offseason. I just want to see some major tangible results.

PS I have seen Tyreke at least attempt to do some mid-range shots this year that he hasn't previously. More power to him. This season looks to be a bust, so he might as well "practice" his mid range in the games from time to time. Maybe by the end of the season he can get better at it.

Good point. Once the players get to know each other a little bit and develop their roles, I think this mistake will cease. Very frustrating to watch until they learn how not to do it, however.

Tyreke's problem this year is different. Its wild inconsistency, and given that our whole team suffers from that I have some doubts whether that's all on him. When he's on, he's really on and those jumpers look good and fall with barely a net twitching. When he's off, EVERYTHING about his offensive games is off. Given that this is a player who was noted for his deadly consistency throughout his rookie year it seems logical to assume some outside factors are in play here.

As an aside the percentages are not really that important as far as progression. Inevitably if you have bad technique at something and have to break it down and start over you are goign to get worse before you get better. If the new techinque is good and you keep on working you WILL get better, but its nto as if jsut changing your technique is suddenly going to make you a good shooter. It just makes becoming a good shooter possible. You still have to get good at shooting it that way.

Yeah, the whole team is in a funk because there is literally no consistency with the game plan from night to night. It's getting better but just like with anyone, players have to be put in the right situations to produce. Both Cousins and Tyreke have been victims of faulty game planning, lineups, and team work this season.

One thing I think people over look is that Tyrekes spot shot does look way better. He doesn't lean back like he used to and now he just goes straight up. The problem is he's rarely in a position to spot shoot and if he is it's at a different and random spot from game to game. They need to draw up a specific play where Tyreke can be used as a shooter. A place comfortable for him and a spot where he can be dangerous as both a shooter or a cutter. There is no reason on this earth that Tyreke shouldn't be a great option cutting to the rim with his physical tools and acceleration.

Demarcus is not a great post player right now. He has some nifty moves that work....some of the time. When we feed him in the post and tell him to go to work, his FG% is about 41%. That's terrible for a big man. When he plays off the ball and mops up rebounds and shoots open outside shots, he's a 50% shooter. I'd rather have him score 17 points a game on 50% shooting than 21 points on 41%.

There aren't many big men that go 4-15 from the field every 3 or 4 nights. His offense is not as great as people think it is.

I agree that his shooting percentage is not good for a big man. But in fairness to him, he probably has more rebound putbacks that don't go in than most bigs in the league. Most bigs in the league don't get their hands on as many balls as Cousins does. For instance, in our last game there was one sequence where Cousins missed a shot close to the basket, got his own rebound and put it back, missed again, and got it back again, and finally got the ball to go in.. So in one sequence, he just went 1 for 3 from the floor. My point is, he's actually more effecient than his FG % shows. Still, it should be better...

That's one explanation but it sems odd that his percentage is low - still. :) Like with so many thinks about Cuz, I tend not to worry. It's all interesting to note but how old is he again? I have seen it mentioned several times by outside folks and it merely supports something else about Cuz that I have noticed. He is a super quick learner. It is nice to say that this is all natural but there is more to it than that. I'm disappointed that he isn't used as a passer like last year but maybe that's just another layer to his game that will return when Hayes returns.

Maybe we'll see an assist or two tonight.

He facinates me.

I have had it with this team in general. Ive been a fan of this bottom feeding team for too long and it's depressing the hell out of me. The only bright spot is Demarcus and honestly at this point I would rather see him on a different team. When the Kings finally decide to stop playing weak iso chicken@&%! ball, ill be back.
