How Will/Should Artest be Welcomed?

I really hope that he gets a warm welcome. I am not of the opinion that HE spit on our face last night...I think his agent spit in our face last night, if that's how you want to characterize it. Actually, I think his agent was just trying to flex his muscles to the Pacers franchise so that they would send him somewhere else. Other players in the past have said much worse about this city and franchise and they were still warmly received by the fans.

Have you ever had a class where the teacher will say at the beginning of the term everyone has an "A" The teacher doesn't know if you are an A student or a D student, every one in this class has the opportunity to earn an A in the class. That's the way I see this, I'm giving Ron the opportunity to excel without any outside influence trying to hinder his progress.
Technically at the beginning of the term you have a 0/0 which is "undefined" - I'd compare that to silence.

This is one of those cases where the fans could make a significant difference in teh fate of their own team. If they actually came out booing Ron...I would think that would virtually guarantee impending doom.

Polite applause is all that's needed or called for. He's a King now. Hasn't hurt OUR franchise yet. I don't trust him as far as I can throw him. But he's got the potential to help if he decides this is home.

Exactly. If you're someone who doesn't like the trade or just doesn't like Artest or how it went down, at least take some time to see if you're going to turn out to be right or not. It'd be kind of silly to go into this as a grump and then have to backpedal if he energizes the team and plays like an All-Star.
This is all that needs to be said.

1. I did not want THIS trade to happen.
2. It happened anyway.
3. Artest is a now player on MY TEAM.
4. All players on this team have my support. I have never, nor will I ever, boo my team - no matter what.

Artest, for better or worse, good and bad, is a member of this team now. I do not like it -even a little- BUT I hope that he proves me wrong. I hope that he is finally able to exceed his potential on and off the court. He will have my support unless he screws it up.

I really believe that Kings' fans are the best in the league. We never needed some golden statue to prove it. I believe that our true "monument" comes from how we treat all (past and present) Kings. We may complain and whine about their weaknesses, but we support them wholeheartedly.

I must be honest and say that, for me, he has less latitude than I have given new players in the past. I can't help it. Try as I might, I find that I want him to EARN my support when I have freely given it in the past. I hope he can. Until then, I will "politely cheer," but will save my "scream at the top of my lungs" cheers for later and keep my fingers crossed that he will be able to change my mind about him.

kings fans need to understand that artest never "dissed" our town. he never flat out said he didnt want to come to sacramento. he never said we were a cow town. he never said we were too small of a market for him to promote his album. his agent was talkin' a bunch, but his agent's a rookie and artest is his first client.

Yup, thats a good point and very true............

I agree with this - "polite applause" is the way to go. It shows that you are in his corner and you want him to succeed while leaving room for him to win you over further.

Absolutely. This forum is a great place for fans to criticise the players and noone is beyond reproach even before they set a foot in the ARCO, but once they (or in this case "Special") put that Kings jersey on and trott out onto the court for the first time, nothing less then aplause will do.

Call me a hypocrite if you have to, but I would cheer him on during the game even though he is not my favorite person right now (regardless of whether it his fault or his agents fault for the mess yesterday). Stiff upper lip and all that... ;)

Probably True... but just think what a few "WElcome to Sacramento Ron" sings migt do for the guy? Hell he might become the new Pollard ;)

We give him an Arco welcome just like any other new player. That's our job, it's what we do. We show him we are above the pettiness and drama that's pervaded this whole scenario for far too long.

We make the first overture to him and we see what happens.

To do anything else would be cutting off our own noses to spite our face. We have him now. He can be a powerful influence on our team and its future.

What has gone before is history. It cannot be changed. What lies ahead of us could be more wondrous than we've ever imagined. Reach for the stars. Don't settle for being mired in the mud until we have to be.

GO KINGS!!!

I don't like the guy, in fact I have always had a strong dislike for him. He's a pathetic, disgraceful character IMO, but doesn't deserve to get treated any worse than other newcomers to this team. He accepted to come to the team, and in the end that's all that matters. I'm sure fans will greet him appropriately.

cheer or boo...i think it will depend on how well he will play the next few days (that is, if he will play)

All star is how we should treat him, he is to the Kings what jesus was to the bible. This is one that we will never forget. I see what Petrie is painting, genious, i would have never thought he could have signed all this talent in such a short time. Lets give our love to the GM of the year. Jump back, Sac is on the map, Ron is a version of Barkley, and i cant get over that.

Ron is a version of Barkley? Oh, that sucks...

I was hoping he'd be a version of Rodman or anyone else who actually has THE jewelry.

;)

Not a big fan of the trade, but it will make us better probably. I'll give Ron a fair chance, although he's made me look like a moron for defending him before his agent slapped us in the face. I remember hearing Reggie Miller said that Artest was being jerked around by his agent on tnt and that he needs to change his agent, but that's a topic for another topic... I'll give him a chance, if I go to a game again this year I'll clap and cheer for him just like I cheer for Mike, Fransisco, Kevin, Brad, Brian, Corliss, Ronnie(Price), Brian, Kenny, Shareef, Jason, and Jamal(although the last 2 shouldn't and don't get much time). Until he does something really bad to this organization I'll be fine with him I guess.

Truer words never spoken. I actually went out of my way to buy some KIgns/Nuggets tickets last night. I will definately give a cheer. We need to tread lightly with this guy. I'm jgoing to anyway.
