How Will/Should Artest be Welcomed?

After all this madness I'm very curious as to how Artest will be welcomed in his first game in Sacramento. Most people will cheer, and some will definitely boo. If I were going to be at the game, my response would be silence. Silence best represents how I feel about him right now - it reflects the "blank slate" that I am giving him.

Why would I cheer? He dissed my home town, nearly screwed over one of my favorite players, and put my favorite team in a very tight spot.

Why would I boo? I can't judge him purely based on the trade process - he has to be given a chance just like we gave Webber a chance.

But silence - now that makes sense. Ron, the ball's in your court. I hope you'll succeed but I fear that you'll fail. You can turn my silence into whatever you want - I will shower you cheers if you play your heart out and become a citizen of our fine town - at least during the season. But if you let your immaturity get the best of you and hurt my team and my city, well then I think you know what you've got coming.

How do others feel about this?
 
I feel like that we should welcome him with open arms and forget about the past. If you want him to improve and become an all-star, we need to let by-gones be by-gones.
 
Same way we welcomed Cat and Bonzi and everyone else... with applause, open arms and an open mind... from that point on, it's up to him

we are too classy of a fan base to boo a kings player in his first game in a kings uni.

Exactly. If you're someone who doesn't like the trade or just doesn't like Artest or how it went down, at least take some time to see if you're going to turn out to be right or not. It'd be kind of silly to go into this as a grump and then have to backpedal if he energizes the team and plays like an All-Star.
 
This morning in another thread, I suggested silence. I understand some want to boo and others want to cheer. I will do neither. As far as I'm concerned he should wear #81 and carry a sharpie. He WILL (after getting back in shape) play well and be a value to the team as a player. He will also be a distraction and eventually a disaster. When that occurs, the Kings will pack and leave having obliterated any public support for a new arena. I hope the Sacramento Police and Sheriffs order more tazers, they're gonna need 'em. :(
 
I don't suggest anything to anyone,I just said what I think.If I would be on next game,I would do same like QueensFan
 
kings fans need to understand that artest never "dissed" our town. he never flat out said he didnt want to come to sacramento. he never said we were a cow town. he never said we were too small of a market for him to promote his album. his agent was talkin' a bunch, but his agent's a rookie and artest is his first client.

as has always happened in sacramento, we should embrace new blood until they do something to warrant otherwise.

I certainly agree with your suggestion as to how he should be welcomed. Your expected outcome is quite bleak, one of several possibilities I can think of, and not one that can be entirely dismissed.

we sure did dodge a bullet;). I am glad to be ridden of peja, but I dont like how it went down.
edit: At least we got that defence everyone has wanted.

Please remember that this board is about respect for the opinions of others. You may not agree with someone else's feelings, especially in this kind of thread. You're not going to change their emotions and they aren't expecting to have to defend them.

Please, folks. Let's keep this respectable. We've come through too much as Kings fans recently to have it all deteriorate into the kind of stuff so prevalent on some other boards.

people react in different ways. As long as they don't contain profanity, out and out player hate, personal attacks, etc. those reactions are totally okay and appropriate for a message board. What's not appropriate is the sarcastic responses...

Polite applause. Who knows what he really said or thought about the prospect of coming to Sactown? Agents are single-minded jerks, who nearly always fail to think globally. I know NY and LA are the media capitols, but:

1. Sacramento is actually in a prime hip-hop market. Many influential artists come out of the Bay Area and Sactown.

2. The Maloofs either already own, or are developing, their own label. Not to mention the Palms. Those guys are dialed in to the entertainment industry. In terms of ownership, Artest cannot beat his current team for aid with his extracurricular activities.

3. History of resurrecting careers and rescuscitating bad boy images.

4. He is now the franchise. There is no spotlight to share.

Even as an optimist, this is the dystopic future that I am almost certain awaits Sacramento fans.
 
I hope the fans don't boo.

Don't want to start if off with a bad relationship with the fans (although you could say Artest already did that)

Actually, I'm really curious about this one. He wanted to be a main option on offense. How will he take to sharing shots with Brad and Mike?

BTW: Sacramento is also the most diverse city in the US, per the 2000 census. A wide variety of people feel "comfortable" here.:)

I will be polite, but Artest has a lot to prove to me. I won't boo, becasue I have never booed a King. (Altho I can envision the possibility of Ron being the first one, if he screws with my team like he did the Pacers.)

Have you ever had a class where the teacher will say at the beginning of the term everyone has an "A" The teacher doesn't know if you are an A student or a D student, every one in this class has the opportunity to earn an A in the class. That's the way I see this, I'm giving Ron the opportunity to excel without any outside influence trying to hinder his progress.
 
It will be a mad standing ovation - crazy - Arco will be outta its mind.

The team was hopeless. Ron represents hope. It will maybe be the most noise of the year because people have been starved for something to get excited about.
