How This Could All Still Work Out This Year

After all the supposed work in the off season and this is the second year for the HC. The team looks pathetic. Things are not going to change. I knew it last year too. Everyone wanted to give Smart a chance. Not only that but he was awarded another year on his contract for being a nice guy and talking a good game which in reality amounts to nothing as a HC. Things are not going to change. This is what a "Smart" HC'd team looks like. there should be no mystery left.

More than anything the team needs ANOTHER coaching change. Keep moving down the totem poll of coaches until we have one that understands lineups and sub patterns.

Lets go after Brian Shaw

he's not getting a job (had 9 interviews) because he insists on implementing phils triangle offense, which has never worked for anyone outside of phil who was blessed with kobe bryant and michael jordan. Kurt Rambis tried to make it work in minni but we all saw what happened there.

Yep, think that is exactly what happened there. Guys got his nose stuck so far up Phil's behind that he basically blew his own coaching career. He was all set to be one of the hot assistant coaches everybody would try to hire, until they found out he was mainly just interested in operating a PJ shrine.

But I'm not sure that is what we need at his point anyway. We have gone so far down the rabbit hole what we need is the veteran established coach that nobody can ignore, that gives everybody confidence just by showing up. Guys like Sloan or even Larry Brown, that I would not have considered, should be in play if we weren't broke (Larry would cost us about 3 a year in his dotage). We need guys who have been there, done that, won so much they have the last say and players who have been treated to unending incompetence go wow, I'm lucky to be playing for him. I still would love to have JVG at this point, for his Ewing/Yao experience for Cuz, his Sprewell/TMac experience for Reke, his defensive focus and Riley pedigree etc.. But if we had money, brains, and a good enough reputation to actually be able to hire somebody credible, that is the sort of thing I would be looking for. No more experiments, unproven guys, fast talkers. Get the old warhorse to settle things and get people listening, even if its not longterm. If we can get Reke and Cousins pointed in the right direction we still have a future somwehere down the road, even if we have to switch coaches again when the old warhorse rides off into the sunset again. In a lot of ways I think these dumb boobs we keep on hiring have done a yeoman's job of priming our guys -- at this point they will be willing to listen to anybdoy, and listen hard, who has a resume and a trophy case to prove they know their stuff. Just no Nellie please. PLEASE.

P.S. hey, we should go offer PJ a chance to get revenge on the Lakers for snubbing him. :p Now admittedly that greedy old turd won't coach for a dime under $10mil a year, but hey, never hurts to try right? ;)
