It's pathetic that we even have to talk about the minimum free agency salary level. We've been sold that this is going to be THE year where we acquire some major free agents, or at least use the FA $ to acquire other players via trade. And yet, now there's the belief, assumption, or speculation by some that the Kings will only do the minimum. It just reeks of loserville. I hope the miasma of minimum expectations is found to be wrong. If the groupthink is correct and the Kings do the minimum to skate by, then I've lost all confidence in this organization going forward.

About a $1 million. But it's not about adding up the contracts on the team. They have to actually spend the minimum amount of salary so if they waive someone they only count the amount they have paid. They dont have to meet the requirement till the end of the current nba fiscal year, so June 30th.

The salary cap this year is 58 million and I think the salary floor is 49 million. Petrie said we were about one million under, so we're at $48 million

Well we know that the Kings had offered contracts to both AK47 and Crawford that would have taken them well over the minimum, so unless we really were going to amnesty Garcia it looks like we will spend past that point for the right players. Likely not jsut for the sake of spending though (althoguh I almost considered Crawford just that). A lot of this team's improvement was always going to be jsut from the natural development of its young stars, but I would very much like to see Kirilenko sign or Daly resign to give us some defensive backbone behind the oohs and aahs.

Brick, just a point of clarification that i am sure you know but others might not, even if they amnesty Garcia they will still be spending that money (it only comes off the cap but he still gets his money) so his contract would still speak to their willingness to spend money. I guess by not using the amnesty clause it shows they don't want to spend extra because using the clause gives them the ability to spend more money on someone else.

It should also be pointed out that there's no need to amnesty Garcia unless they plan on spending over 11 million on a player, which is unlikely, unless its Dalembert. And from what I've heard, they've only offered Dalembert around 8 or 9 mill. I should also point out, that I can't verify that they'ver actuall made an offer to Dalembert. So its just a rumor.

I sort of agree with Bricky, that there's no need to spend money to prove you'll spend money. Dalembert and Kirilenko are still options at this point, and its also possible that if something is done, it'll be through a trade.

Agree with many of your points and have chatted with other Kings fans who feel the same way. Apparently, Sac is at or near the bottom of free agent wish-lists and you can't blame players. The organization is in disarray and the best FAs are looking for teams with deep pockets and a chance at the playoffs. At this point, it looks like we'll have to be satisfied (or not) with the improvement of young players. Hopefully, the style of play will be enough to keep fan interest.

It depends on your definition of hard. If for instance, we offer Dalembert 9 mil and he says no, I want 12 or 13 mil, then what do you do? Give him what he wants no matter what the cost. I shop on E-Bay all the time. And the trick is to make a decision on how much your willing to spend on an item, and then bid that amount right off the bat.. If another bid goes above that amount, you move on to the next item. Otherwise, what would have been a good deal, could turnout to be a deal you can't economicly justify.

I'm by not means defending the orginization. I have no idea what their mindset is. But I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt until I know otherwise. We know they have an offer on the table to Kirilenko. We know they had the highest bid for Jamal Crawford. We also know that with Petrie, you usually don't know whats up until it happens. Which in many cases, makes him an easy target.

I'm not one of those that believes Petrie is gods gift to the GM world. But I do have respect for his successes without ignoring his failures. What I do know about him, is that if he had his preferences, he would sign players that fit his scenario of team basketball, and not necessarily go after the biggest name out there. I'm not saying thats right or wrong. Just that its his style. As a result, sometimes he see's something in a player that we might not see. Frankly, although I like a lot of what Crawford brings to the plate, I was a little confused why he would be so high on Petrie's list. Especially after just resigning Thornton. I would think a good bench backup center would higher on the list.

On the other hand, there's nothing wrong with not spending money on long term contracts when next years freeagent class will be much better. Not to mention, we have Tyreke's new contract coming up in the near future. We have Thompson, Hickson, and Greene next year. This I can guarantee you. The same people that ***** about us not using our money to sign someone, anyone, will be the same people that criticize the orginization for not setting aside enough money to resign Evans, if he ends up walking.

Very well stated. I have suffered through the last few seasons but it is always hard for fans when the team tries to get better "Marlins style" (aka, develop what you have)
