While I am in the midst of polling, I thought I might as well ask.

Atlanta blew it up this offseason. Not sure what their plan is, but younger seems likely. Meanwhile we are unbalanced and have too many guys who want/need shots. If this trade were available, would you do it?

Sac Trades:
Marcus Thornton $7.6mil (3yrs)
Thomas Robinson $3.4mil (2-4yrs)
Travis Outlaw $3.0mil (3yrs)

for

Atl Trades
Al Horford $12.0mil (4yrs)
Anthony Morrow $4.0mil (ender)

It could balance us, add defense and a dead eye three point shooting roleplayer who can swing from SG to SF. Make the big rotation rock solid. But we could end up giving up the two best players in the trade, and Smart would lose his precious stretch 4 ability with 4 true bigs up front (Cuz, Horford, JT, Hayes). Financially its largely a wash, with us paying 2mil more this year, but gaining an ender and shedding some long term burdens.

P.S. Note for the inevitabel suggestions Josh Smith cannot be subbed in for Horford because he is an ender and would leave us.

I think we are giving up too much in this trade.

I think instead of Robinson, we can put in Jimmer and Jason Thompson, and they might still do it. I think Robinson is a valuable player that could be pretty good in the future with his speed and athleticism. Also his potential rebounding skills. I do not like trading rookies before they even play because you dont know the potential or skill they might have day 1.

I just wish I knew what kind of player Robinson is going to be. If he's going to be worthy of a #2 pick (like we apparently felt he was) this would be a bit tough to swallow.

based off summer league play i consider this. I dont think TROB impressed us as much as we would have liked. Could be giving away too much however.

Probably not. The summer league play has put a damper on Trob, but if someone said before the draft Trob+MT for Thornton, I would have said we can do better.

Morrow is a great shooter but terrible on D and he can't play SF any more than Marcus can.

Trob to Al is potentially a big upgrade, or could be just paying more for an older and only slightly better player. Size-wise Trob is only an inch smaller, and his best case on Draft Express is actually Al Horford.

I'd be all over that.

I feel like Horford might be a best case for T-Rob, so I wouldnt mind shipping the rook out for him, and as stated above Horford would be a great compliment to Cousins in the frontcourt. Getting rid of Captain Chemistry Killer is a bonus.

Edit: Hah, just read DesertFox's post about Robinson's best case being Horford on Draft Express.

giving up way too much. we dont know how robinson will turn out in the NBA but he has huge potential. and Thornton is our top scorer.

My gut tells me that the Hawks wouldn't do this trade. Even if Atlanta is on a youth movement, Horford is just 26 yr's old. Personally, yes! I would do this trade, and with the knowledge that Robinson has a huge upside, and could ultimately be a better player than Horford. I know he had a terrible summer league, but for those with a short memory, so did Derrick Rose in his first year. However, Horford would bring some veteran leadership thats badly needed. He has playoff experience.

Anthony Morrow is a nice throw in. I think he's much more of a SG than a SF, but thats OK. He's used to coming off the bench, and would be a nice backup to Tyreke. Plus, including Outlaw in the deal, might free up some playing time for Honeycutt. SF might still be a position of contention, but maybe Johnson will surprise. And, we still have the chrismatic John Salmons.

I would do it, but I doubt the Hawks would. Horford has All-Star ability. Robinson may get there and he may not get there. I like Robinson a lot, but he's much more of an unknown than Horford. And Thornton can shoot, but he can't defend.

I would trade Evans for Horford based on what I have seen from both players over the past few years. Front court comes first IMO.

deciding between Horford and Thornton is tough for me. All pieces considered in this proposal id have to say yes to the trade. Sorry Marcus. We gain Morrow and get rid of Outlaw at the expense of Robinson. Now that i think about it i would want to see Robinson in action first.

I like it. Getting rid of Outlaw is addition by subtraction and trading MT for Thornton balances out the 2G spot. What I mean is that MT is too good and makes too much money to come off the bench but you need to start Reke as well. Bringing in someone like Morrow works since he'll be fine with coming off the bench.

Horford gives you a known quantity at PF. He's been on 2 all star teams. While I have high hopes for TRob, I just don't know yet if he'll reach Horford's level.
