I don't believe this is strictly a left/right issue, but the important thing to know would be whether the rumored move that is already on the works is in or outside of California. Because to get the state involved they'd need to know they'd be losing the team, not just moving from one part of the state to another.

The one real possible positive that Jerry Brown brings is that he is the first Governor to have his base in Northern California since... himself.

...outside. Hopefully just a rumor, but enough that e-mails have been sent guaranteeing it (not just verbal). I'm hoping that key people will wake up, and do whatever needs to be done before it's too late. The Kings won't be the Kings, unless they are THE Sacramento Kings. They belong here. Period.

I'm kind of reluctant to say anything because of my rep, but I'm not encouraged by this, either. We're all concerned about "deep pockets". Well, last week, the Bee reported that Inland's cash reserves fell from $1.4B to $220M in just one year.

Even if they build it, this means the issue of financing won't be resolved, at all. They clearly have to borrow money to build, well, anything in the railyards, or sell off some other asset they own (which would make this a zero-sum game for them -- they'd have little motivation to do this).

So, that leaves the ages-old question: Who are they going to borrow from? And they won't expect to lose money, so the Maloofs will either have to pay the whole thing, or the City will have to pay the rest of it (through a TIF, perhaps -- but still substantial public funding).

Nice to see Inland in the mix; we still have this monumental money issue.

I don't like it.

I believe Inland has about $30bil+ in assets. I don't see financing being a problem for them, if its required as part of a deal. But yes, it will still require other money to make it a winner for them -- no reason for anybody to act if its not in their financial interests. I think the keys are still the land Arco sits on today, as well as developers willing to pay in exchange for land to develop, and possibly the theme park company from San Diego. But having a huge solvent player in charge of the railyards opens up a lot of doors. Neither they, or anybody, are going ot do anything for free. But for the right plan they can grease the wheels financially.
