Here we go again

Hall of Famer
Can someone find a link for this? On the TV news I think I heard that the meeting was canceled today and someone said the Kings will stay ONLY if the Anaheim deal falls through.

I want a link.

I dont think there was supposed to be a meeting today. I read that The Maloofs asked for the extension today, and provided Taylor with SOME of the info they need. I dont know why they didnt get all of it, but thats all that happened today as far as I know.

The meeting was rescheduled to later in the week.

OK.

"I think it's clear that they're (the Kings) looking to try to create or strike a deal with Anaheim," said Johnson in a news conference. "And, I would probably, it leads me to believe if they don't get a deal, they'll, they'll stay in Sacramento. It's not the ideal situation that they're choosing Sacramento."

In other words, they have turned there backs on our efforts, at least in the opinion of KJ. I wonder how much of what he says is true or how much is the typical Sacramento low self esteem.

In any case, trying to put as good a spin on this as possible, I'd like to see how the Kings can do with an area more attractive to free agents and with more money to spend.

Looks like you should reopen my thread that you closed since it looks like I may be right
:)

Go or Stay (preferably the later option), last night only solidified the fact that I'll love this team no matter what happens next.

They're gone. It's clear as day, The Maloofs don't want to be here any longer. Just accept it. I've already been weening myself off of watching games so I can get used to it. They've been blowing off the mayor, they won't answer questions about it because they don't want the fans to jump ship before the season is over, and they're worsening financial plight is making Anaheim look like a pie in the sky that will solve all of their problems. Personally, I think it's a stupid and impetuous move on their part and one that will likely backfire. The only way they don't leave is if Anaheim doesn't give them the deal they want or if by some miracle the league doesn't approve the move. Other than that, they're gone. Otherwise they wouldn't have asked for the extension and they'd be working with the mayor and ICON more.

I won't be able to still love the team. I know my nature and I will hate The Maloofs if they go through with this and I'll be hoping the whole thing fails and blows up in their faces. Not the most mature attitude, I'm aware, but that's how I roll. Hey, at least i'm honest about it, lol.

This is excatly the way I feel. I'm wondering what team I can root for after they leave. I'm down to two teams: Whoever is playing the Lakers and whoever is playing the former Kings!!!

Once The kings are gone, I wouldn't be surprised if much of my Laker hatred dissipated. The only reason I ever hated The Lakers was because they were Goliath to The Kings' David and there was the underlying Socal Vs. NoCal drama involved. if The Kings aren't in Sacramento anymore, none of that will matter any longer. The Lakers will be just another team to me at that point.

I'm pretty sure they could lobotomize me and I would still hate the Lakers.

The first team I followed were the Minneapolis Lakers but then their crazy owner, Bob Short, thought he could make more money if he moved the team to LA. Teams leave. In comparative terms, imagine a team in 1950 or so with a guy 6'10" with skill.

They are gone.. Sacramento will not have another team for 25+ years.. Enjoy being the biggest media market without a professional team, Sacramento! This town is ****ing retarded.

I've found that it's easier to hang onto hate than other emotions. I hate the Lakers and will until my dying days.

As long as Kobe and Phil are still around there will be enough carry over effect for me to still hate them. But once those guys are gone and The Kings aren't in Sacramento, i just don't think I'd care any longer. I'd just be hating the name at that point, all the reasons to hate would be gone.

When the news of the day appears to be that ticket people are being laid off and signs for PB were going to go up this morning, but PB and the Kings agreed it was either too big of a mess and/or not worth putting the name up there for 6 weeks ... the name may not be on the building ... but the writing is on the wall.

As long as the Buss family is around that team and their colors are yellow and purple, I don't think I'll be able to let it go.

if or when the kings leave, alot of jobs and businesses will go down. all those businesses in natomas area get quite a bit of business during the home games.

My hatred for The Lakers as a team may fade with time, but If the Kings move to Anaheim, I'll probably end up hating Laker fans more than ever. The kings being in the L.A. metro area will be like the final feather in the cap of laker fans. After 25 years of their team owing ours, now they get the satisfaction of watching us lose our team only to have it move in right next door to them. The very thought makes me ill.

I'll always be a diehard fan, no matter what, and watch all 82 games unless work, school, or family interferes.

Maybe I'm in the minority here. No matter if they moved to San Jose, Anaheim, KC, or London, I'd still follow them closely, watch every game, and call them my team.

What I care about most is the product on the floor, the players, and coaching staff. Ownership is down the list, and not something I usually think about when watching games are talking about the team. I actually think the Maloofs are good owners, who'd stayy if they could, and are caught in a crapy situation with a crapy city council.

There are far worse owners in the league, and throughout sports, but if I was a fan of the team, and grew up with it, ownership wouldn't be reason enough for me to no longer be a fan, or even influence how much of a fan I am. I've been a fan of the Raiders for a long, long time, and hate Al Davis. But it has no influence on me being a fan of the team. I half jokingly wish he'd come down with some illness which forced him to sell the team.

I don't understand the mentality of, "if they leave, I'm done with the team, or I'm done with the NBA". I personally could never consider it.

Have you lived in Sacramento your entire life?

No. NY and the bay area. Have been in the bay area since 93, and have been driving up to Kings games ever since. Never been a GS fan.

With the exception of the Webber/Divac years, I don't see any reason why anyone who wasn't a lifelong Sacramento resident would even want to be a fan of the Kings. If I was going to be a fan of a team from a region other than my own, I'd want it to at least be a team with a shot at a championship. That's why I'm a Celtics fan actually.

you can take the fan out of the community, but you can't take the community out of the fan.

some are Giants fans or A's fans, 9'ers fans or Raiders fans--we're all Kings fans.

the team has been a symbol of our shared experience for the past quarter century: rooting for the success of this club is rooting for the success of our friends and family, our neighbors and colleagues.

we'll still watch sports and feel the thrill of victory, the agony of defeat, but the only semblance of meaning in any of this fanaticism will leave town with the Kings.

How can you not understand why a lot of us local residents wouldn't want to be a fan after they move? You're not born and raised here like a lot of us. It doesn't really matter where they go for you. It sounds like you root for the "Kings" and it doesn't really matter what city is on the jersey.

If they move, I'm pretty much done with NBA basketball. I've grown tired of the league anyway but I've stayed a fan just because I've been following the Kings since Day 1. I'm tired of all the players acting ghetto -- the tattoos, bad attitudes, disrespect, DUI's, no accountability, and the general lack of being good human beings. Obviously, this doesn't apply to every player but that's just the general feeling I get nowadays.

I sure do; root for the "Kings," that is. I became a fan of the Kings because a guy who went to my high school played for the Kings when the team was in Kansas City. I care **** all about whether or not they leave Sacramento. Not only that, but having spent my entire childhood as a squid kid, and the first two thirds of my adulthood as a sailor, I've moved around so much that the local provincial mindset is an utterly alien concept to me... but, I do try to sympathize with the locals, as much as I can, nonetheless.

If they move, I'm pretty much done with NBA basketball.
This would suggest that you were never really an NBA fan in the first place...

What does "acting ghetto" mean, exactly?

Years ago, the NBA was more about playing basketball and wanting to win. It's become more about a bunch of uneducated, immature, spoiled brats who are more concerned about their image and marketing.

I think I outlined what I constituted as "ghetto" in my post, didn't I? Are you going to pull the race card out on me now?
