Heirs to the throne?

... but you couple it was an apparent deepset lack of historical perspective.

And this I think is the crux. And the historical perspective is certainly inclusive of the Kings in the Sacramento era, but also takes into account an understanding and appreciation of the greater NBA and the evolution of the game itself. Judging the tenure of someone such as Adelman outside of that context is tricky at the very best.

I said this before and I will say this again: It was not Adelman era, it was not Webber era, it was no Pedja's era, it was Vlade Divac's era. The Kings were successful while he was on the team. The moment he arrived everything came together, the moment he left everything fell apart. It was a very similar situation with him in Charlotte before the Kings (and chemistry-wise it was similar when he was with the Lakers, but they were not as good talentwise). The same thing for the Yugoslav/Serbian national team. The guy glued everything and everyone together.

Won't even touch the Adelman thing going on here, but......

does anyone think it's a coincidence that Brad Miller had probably his best season when he played as the PF alongside Vlade???

define "coincidence"?

If you're just aiming for a simple Vlade = Brad's best year, then yes, its coincidence. But if you're looking for a more nuanced: a) best team Brad has ever played on; b) played at PF rather than C and had a size advanatage there; c) his fellow big (Vlade) was a terrible rebounder by that point in his career, and may have been more there for Brad; d) Brad was younger, and right in the middle of his three peak years; e) it was only the first half the season, where Brad has had a tendency to get hurt/fade late every year; f) the excitement of coming to a new, winning team et.c, and THEN want to credit Vlade with whatever extra mojo is necessary to fill in any gaps, then sure.

I don't know where exactly to post this, as I don't think it deserves a thread of its own but is this where George Karl is basically saying that Musselman can't coach and thats the reason we didn't make the play-offs this year and expect us to be there next season

Wild, wild West: Noting the tight nature of the Spurs-Nuggets series and Golden State's 3-1 lead on the 67-win Mavericks entering Tuesday's Game 5 of that series, Karl said the Western Conference is more fun than the East.

"Isn't it fun?" Karl said. "And it's only gong to be more fun next year. Memphis is going to come back, and Sacramento, too."

I think that playing at PF was a good thing for him, but looking over his stats, it's hard to say when his best year was. Undoubtedly, the three best years of his career were his first three years in Sac.

His stats for his years in Sac:
'03-'04: 14.1 pts, 10.3 reb, 4.3 asst, 1.2 blk, 0.9 stl, 2.0 TO, 51% FG, 36 min
'04-'05: 15.6 pts, 9.3 reb, 3.9 asst, 1.2 blk, 1.2 stl, 1.5 TO, 52.4% FG, 37 min
'05-'06: 15.0 pts, 7.8 reb, 4.7 asst, 0.8 blk, 0.8 stl, 2.3 TO, 49.5% FG, 37 min
'06-'07: 9.0 pts, 6.4 reb, 3.6 asst, 0.6 blk, 0.6 stl, 1.7 TO, 45.3% FG, 28 min

So I find it hard to see much in generalities, other than that he did really well in Sac, but not especially well as a 30 year old under Muss.

When does Petrie come back from Europe? The Bobcats are well on the way in selecting their new coach. They have interviewed a number of candidates including Stan Van Gundy. Is there a chance that we might "lose out" if one of those signs with the Bobcats?

I just wish we would get the process under way so at least we are in a ball game. Either that or Petrie already knows who he wants as the next coach.

Is it just me or do some of you feel as I do that Petrie's first priority should be staying home and finding the best coach available before the better ones are snatched up by someone else? He did this last time, too, as I recall and we wound up with Mussellman. So, he returns from his two week scouting trip to Europe to find the best candidates already signed. Doesn't make sense to me.

Thought the same thing. I wouldn't be surprised, then, if he already has someone in mind and isn't worried about the Bobcats "snatching someone up." Probably an assistant on a playoff team...

Well if he is going to do the scouting, he would have to get it done before the draft. This is probably a scouting trip to make up his mind on some candidates in this draft and see what is coming up in the next couple of years.

I am a bit sceptical about not doing anything before he returns but then again, I would rather have it that way than have Maloofs playing while the big cat is away.

In this high-tech age, everybody is just a finger stroke away. Petrie, IMHO, is or already has been in contact with the names on his list. What legit coaching candidate wouldn't want to listen to a potentially better offer?

I was thinking the same thing. My question is, what will Petrie have seen in two weeks touring Europe that he couldn't have seen during the preceeding year(s)?

I don't think its a big deal. I'd rather they take some time this time, instead of rush headlong into an overly fast, short and disastrous search like last year.

If the Kings are interested in any assistants associated with playoff teams, most teams wouldn't let the Kings interview them until they are out of the playoffs, anyway.

So while the playoffs are going on, I'd rather he get his overseas scouting done.

And he might just be taking a breather... Everybody is entitled to a vacation. I don't have a problem with Petrie going overseas for couple of weeks.

And after this last season, he probably couldn't wait to get away! ;)
