Quote:Said Coach Johnny Davis, "Steve was engaged [at Tuesday's practice]. He was better. He's emotional. It was just one of those moments . . . a lot of trauma involved."

Quote:The Magic practiced for a little more than an hour here, with Hedo Turkoglu and Stacey Augmon working at the shooting-guard spot left vacated by Mobley.

Davis said Turkoglu would make his first start of the season tonight against the Minnesota Timberwolves at Target Center.

Well he'd pretty much have to with Doug not in town yet right?

not really. the magic coach, johnny davis, had been so far very careful about hedo. he did not start him when that starting job would be temporary due to a starter's injury. even when mobley was out for about 10 games, he started deshawn stevenson. when hill was out, augmon started. even though, in both cases hedo was the better player. my guess is, if hedo is starting tonight, he will start through the end of this season, unless he hits one of his notorious slumps, or the bench becomes paper thin without hedo, especially offensively.

I wish Hedo and Doug all the success in the world. They were part of something very, very special ... that has now, for better or worse, irretrievably changed.

doug is probably at the end of his nba career. i don't see him signing with another team when his contract expires. it is really sad for him to not retire as a king. oh well, it is a business and money has no soul!

Doug has noticeably slown down...and I agree that this will most likely be his final spot. I would loved to have seen him retire as a King. I said the same thing about Vlade.

...sigh...

Hedo goes for 26, 6 rebounds and 4 assists in 40+ in his first start for the Magic after the Cuttino trade as the Magic lead the still struggling Twolves by 5 with less than 20 seconds left.

yeah... hedo did a great job tonight.... now i really want the magic to succeed.... they now have 3 of my favorite players..... doug, hedo and grant.....

I guess the Magic had even better reason to trade Mobley, to get more use out of Hedo and his big contract. Now that I think about it, the Magic made a real smart move if they're putting Hedo at the 2 permanently; it allows Christie to come fresh off the bench which and improves his energy and defense by default. Best way to make use of a good old player is to reduce his minutes some so his physical limitations aren't as glaring.

You might be right but this is the latest from the FL. media:

The trade opens up more playing time for Turkoglu, the sweet-shooting forward who the Magic signed to a six-year, $39 million free-agent deal in July. Turkoglu has played well of late, scoring 22 points in Friday's win against Charlotte and 19 on Saturday against New Jersey. Christie will likely be the starter at shooting guard, but Turkoglu's minutes should increase in the future. "One of the reasons we did this deal was because I want Hedo to get more minutes,'' Weisbrod said. "The most convincing statistical correlation you can make between our lineups and us winning is Hedo. We win when he plays. He was obviously playing a lot while Cuttino was hurt, and since (Mobley) has been back, it's been hard to get enough minutes for Hedo. That will happen now.''

Great game for Hedo... if they are smart they will keep him in the starting roatation, but play him at SF.

And cut Grant Hill's minutes? No. He'll get more PT at SG and probably back up Hill too.

Love Hill's play and recovery but I am not sure I would hang the hopes of my franchise on him as a starter, but if a team wants to keep him in the starting 5 sure keep Hedo at SF with a long switch to spell Hill, but seriously we all know the diffenrence in Hedo's numbers when he starts.

the truth is sometimes not immune to passing time. hedo used to thrive when he would get the starting node. not this year. in the magic, he has been given the role of bobby jackson: come in, jack up as many shots as you possibly can, be an energizer. he is, so far, doing well. no more of that "what am i supposed to do" bs.
