Hawes and Miller... Are Going to Disappoint?

Remember hearing last summer, after Reggie was hired. he flew to Indy and met up wit miller and straight out told him he looked outa shape and better get it together by training camp?

Well Haven't heard much about either Hawes or Miller tearing it up at the gym this offseason.... I'm getting prepared to face the truth that Hawes could very well be Miller 2.0 and will "hit the weights" just like Miller said he would after being totally embarrassed by Jerome James in the Playoffs... which as we all know turned out that just meant he had a couple of dumbbells laying around his barn or something... which equals working out right?

Im getting really worried that although Hawes did play in some sorta local basketball league he isn't actually dedicated to building his frame to bang with the big boys or to just plan out be more explosive. its good he's "in shape" as we saw this year with Miller, being "in shape" can almost turn around your career... but LIFT SOME DAMN WEIGHTS SON! LOOK AT DWIGHT HOWARD! YEAH HE PLAYS YOUR POSITION! you can't rebound! why? maybe its cause your too weak to box out full sized ripped PF's and C's!

I really don't know what Hawes has been up too this summer but do know that he was back in school... which is great but isn't going to help him back down most 4's or 5's... All I can do is hope that Reggie will remain tough on his stance that Hawes is weak and NEEDS to add strength... I hope he stays on top of both these guys and forces them to pick up the weights!

If Hawes looks just the same im gonna be bummed, especially after all his talk about wanting to prove all the draft critics wrong about his conditioning and athleticism... and how he was going to "hit the weights" to improve...

and side note we all know now what Millers secret is to being in such great shape... he's on the Vlad smoking plan... just not cigarettes

Well If I remember correctly Hawes was working out and working on a sky hook as well. Don't speculate that he or Miller is going to be out of shape just because you haven't heard a story about them working out. I also haven't heard that Salmons, Moore, Garcia, etc......have been working out.

I haven't heard that Kevin Martin has been breathing. I just hope he is or it could ready cost us.

Right cause Millers never had a problem with being outa shape? are you kidding me?

and you could also argue that Hawes hasn't really ever been in great NBA level shape... He missed training camp and wasn't considered to be in "good" shape till the sec half of last year... and even then it was clear, that according to Reggie he needed lots of work. umm so yeah how crazy of me to wonder if these 2 guys are serious... especially Miller ! what was i thinking....

5 game suspension? dont they give those out for being extra healthy?

And on the good news side, I just heard an interview on KHTK with Kevin Martin and he mentioned already seeing big man Jason Thompson doing some great things in his Kings workouts. Said he was surprised to see how he could step out and nail outside J, "just like like Brad and Spencer." Liked his hustle, attitude and more. Kevin didn't really talk much about other players (except to say very glad Beno is back) with interview mostly about his upcoming youth basketball camp in town.

Why don't you just wait and find out. In the first place, Hawes is not Miller and doesn't deserve to be judged for being anyone but who he is. He missed training camp last year because of injury. Unlike Miller, Hawes is not laid back. He's a very intense and competitive individual. The fact that he's putting in the time to graduate shows me dedication on his part that a lot of young men would simply vacate after having a few million dollars put in they're account.

I really don't understand the point of this thread. There appeared to be no controversy regarding Hawes. No reports of his sitting on a beach drinking beer and eating fatting food. So you just conceive and idea and present as almost being fact. If you want to hammer Miller for his drug problems, fine. But leave Hawes out of it.

I have no idea why he would be surprised given that the man drafting those guys considers that the most important one "big man" skill you can have. Or little man skill. Or in between man skill.

Did someone just actually compare Dwight Howard and Spencer Hawes in physical ability? I mean, come on. We are talking about a genetic freak of nature in Dwight Howard. Have you seen anyone with those kinds of shoulders? I bet you Hawes could life weights every day for the next ten years and he wouldn't come close to Howard.

Then again I also know that Dwight Howard will never develop a mid range shot and might never be able to shoot a consistent free throw. Sometimes you have to take what you can get.

Where are you getting all this? Because he was compared to Brad Miller in college and because you haven't heard about his workout routine that does not mean he's not working out.. He's actually playing starting the 12th so why not hold judgment on how he looks until you can at least see him playing in Vegas? You make some strong accusations against Hawes without any proof. The truth is that Hawes has a good work ethic, and loves the game. So why would that leave you to believe that he wont ever work on that body of his?

So I ask this of you.... Please just wait until you see him before you say he's out of shape, and cannot compete against 4s and 5s. You brought up some points saying he was not in shape until the second half of the season but this happens to a lot of people that have early season injuries.

When Hawes has been on the radio he says he's gained some more muscle and his body fat percentage has gone down. He siad people are telling him he looks bigger and stronger. So, he is working out very hard this summer.

Just because you don't hear it, or see it posted on a billboard doesn't mean it isn't happening.

good to hear! im not claiming to know anything about what hes been doing... all im saying is it would suck if he was the next Miller... I haven't heard anything about what Hawes has been up too... i hope he would do the right thing....

why do people assume he is the next brad miller? hawes for his height and frame is slick, pretty much finesse and has that post moves that some NBA centers have been trying to master for years, this is coming from a 19 year old who started playing guard and grew in college same story as jason thompson right?

skill wise in my honest opinion Hawes is far better than Howard, SKILL WISE ok :D shooting, FT, and passing, and bringing up the ball.. heck he is already at par with miller in those categories In my opinion, if he gains more muscle like 30 or more i think that will affect his speed and post moves will he switch from finesse to brute strategy? we dont know and we cant assume anything about it but all i know is that a 19 year old coming off injuries and sickness (he had a flu in college last time i read and lost weight) will still get better he hasnt grown into his body yet

also i gotta give respect and admiration to a guy who is trying to finish his education, just to show his dedication and principle... and the way i listened to him speak on that ron artest show in the radio, he sounds smart and articulate, im guessing this guy will be a cerebral player

Heh, you ought to read the latest Bee article before speculating as such...

Hawes looked like he dropped some weight throughout the reminder of last season. He should be working on speed and conditioning this summer. His game isn't fit for power. Maybe study Hakeem Olajuwon and Kareem Abdul Jabbar some. Dreamshake into a Sky hook sounds nice.

well compare his vegas summer league stats from last year to now... you guys think he made some progresS?

by the start of this year i sure hope the Hawes = B52 Ver 2.0 Patch 2.000001 with a lot of bugs and glitches...what so forth theory is done and irrelevant.

dude everyone needs to CHILL THE HELL OUT!

look if anything i was hoping to hear some positive news about Hawes because i hadn't heard anything until... what do you know! the bee posted about this exact subject right after this thread was made...

LOOK I DIDNT SAY I HEARD ANYTHING! I DIDNT PRETEND TO KNOW ANYTHING! ALL THIS THREAD WAS ABOUT WAS THAT IT WOULD SUCK IF IT TURNED OUT HE WASNT WORKING OUT LIKE HE SAID HE WOULD...

SERIOUSLY ANYONE WHO POSTED IN THIS THREAD AND COMPLAINED TO ME ABOUT "SPECULATING ON HAWES" NEED TO RE-READ THIS THREAD! AND NEEDS TO REMEMBER THAT THIS SITE CONTAINS LOTS OF SPECULATION!

im sorry that my thread was a tad pessimistic... as most everyone here im tired of watching slow, grounded, poor defensive, 7 footers on this team, and Hawes quickness, shot blocking, rebounding and strength are weaknesses... and working out will help in these areas...BIG TIME...

so IM GLAD TO READ HES IN GOOD SHAPE AND IS CUTTING DOWN ON FAT...HES ONE OF MY FAVORITE PLAYERS ON THIS TEAM AND HE LOOKED GREAT IN THE FIRST SUMMER LEAGUE GAME....HE STILL NEEDS TO ADD MUSCLE HE SAID SO HIMSELF... I HOPE HE FOLLOWS THROUGH... SOUNDS LIKE HE WILL.... END OF THREAD! CLOSE THIS CRAP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Calm down dude... no ones saying your a pessimist... i understand your concern that Hawes MAY turn out to be like brad

but no worries and i wont blame hawes for having a rough start next year hes only 20 years old :P

so its all good

You are the one who started the thread in the manner you did and made the snide comments along the way - if you don't like the reaction you got, tough cookies. Maybe you will think about that a little more next time.
