Growing Up Gotti

God help me, I'm hooked on watching the "reality" adeventures of John Gotti's daughter and three grandsons as they try to find happiness in the world of mansions, limousines, fancy restaurants, etc.

You can't help but feel sorry for poor Victoria Gotti. This single mom is raising her sons and has to bring in an etiquette coach to teach the little gerbils (ages 15, 17 and 19 or so) which spoon to use for which course. Then, when things aren't going right, she takes them for an inspirational visit to Gotti's mausoleum.

It really must suck to be that rich... How convenient the producers seem to have forgotten exactly how the Gotti fortune came to be.

;)

EDIT: Ooops. I had Ms. Gotti's first name wrong.

Ah, and in the next episode, the effervescent Ms. Gotti says to an underling, "Do you understand my brother is so mad at you he's ready to kill you?"

Yep, this is class TV at its best.

I haven't watched that show yet, Mad D. I certainly hope it doesn't compete with Kings games, Survivor, Amazing Race or Growing Up Gotti, not to mention the reruns of My Big Fat Goofy Fiance (or whatever it was called).

It's getting so I may have to make a decision. Something is going to have to be cut out of my life... I'm thinking my boss wouldn't mind paying me to watch reality TV instead of coming to work. After all, who does she think she is...Donald Trump??

;)

The very notion of "reality television" offends my sensibilities. It is an affront to all self-respecting television watchers like myself.

That said, I can think of worse ways to waste a half hour than looking at Victoria Gotti...

Did you know there is a channel on DishNetwork called "REALITY"??? Check it out! Channel 190.

Lots of shows like Power of Attorney, LAPD, Arrest and Trial, America's Most Wanted, Animal Rescue, Emergency Call...I could go on but I think you get the drift.

Quality television broadcasting just don't get much better than that!!!

:D

well i stopped watching that show as soon as those racist billionares were booted off.. i just wanted to see them lose

I will confess I watch Survior and ocasionaly the Amazing Race. I actualy require studnets in my Group communication class watch Survivor, and I am considering requirng students in my interpersonal classes watch the Amazing race givne the HORRIBLE interpersonal skills on display each week. (in fact this season seems to be dominated by seriously abusive me who are an embarassmet to the entire gender)

I actually have become very fond of Survivor, especially when they focus on the group dynamics. I find it totally fascinating to see just how far some people will go to manipulate others in the quest for the mighty $$$. Personally, I think Twila may have hit an all-time low - even over Jonny Fairplay's plot to use the fake death of his grandmother. She actually swore on her son's life. I don't think you do that - ever - and I think the others were so shocked it just could cost her any chance of getting further in the game.

Yup it is a weekly lesson in group dynamics... every Friday class is VERY animated!

Um...hate to point this out, but a) everybody is horribly prescreened just for outrageous/"interesting" personality traits (the ones who do not actually receive encouragement to act in a particular way by the producers that is); and 2) there is a camera there! I mean, how "real" can anyone possibly be acting?

Anyway...back to your regularly scheduled programming... :)

P.S. Why do I think I would be dropping Mr. Hndsm's class a few minutes after we got the syllabus on the first day? ;)

The recent onslaught of reality TV has totally turned me against it. I used to enjoy the silliness of the occasional "Real World" marathon, but now I hate that stuff.

I do, however, get hooked on the more makeover oriented reality shows -- "Trading Spaces," "Overhaulin'," "Monster Garage," the wonderful "Pimp My Ride," etc.

But, those don't really count.

Right??

The amazing and sad thing is that my slcaker students were the ones to complain about "having" to watch one hour of TV a week, not the good students, and yes I have studnets who will not watch TV to save their grade. Of coures they also do not read the 100-200 pgs of the texts each week either.

Note that I'm talking about the more ludicrous prime time reality TV here and not the home makeover/fashion makeover stuff that's on during the day (I don't really mind most of those shows either).

Coming from your attitude (and likewise mine): I think the one good thing about the onslaught is that the oversaturation is help killing the genre, or at the very least forcing it to change. It's never really gonna go away (after all, it's cheap-to-produce TV), and you're still gonna have some hit reality-based shows out there. But the burnout has definitely set in. The Bachelor is tanking right now in the ratings, and that Big Fat Obnoxious Boss has been a disaster. The shows are based on constantly recycled ideas, and people are tuning out. For awhile, it seemed like any reality show they put in prime time was going to be a success. Now it's become an iffy proposition and less of a crutch to help prop up their programming. They're gonna have to think of some different angles to keep things interesting to people (for example, the guy who produces most of those shows for Fox is developing a fiction/reality hybrid).

Count me as one who is getting burned out of reality TV. I used to be so hooked on 'Survivor', but now I've hardly watched this season. I'm just getting tired of the same old, same old over and over again. They've seemingly run out of ideas to make that show fresh, and they're limited on new ideas just because of the setting, I think. Not that I don't watch other reality shows, I love 'The Apprentice'. That is a show that is constantly fresh because of the many business ideas out there and in the end, the contestants have to be savvy business people no matter what their personalities are. And a new one I've watched a few times and enjoyed is 'Wife Swap'. Just interesting how they put two different family dynamics together and how they fare.

I'm hooked on Growing up Gotti too! I lived in North New Jersey until I was 27, so those people remind me of everyone I grew up with!

I did watch the 'Gotti' ones a couple of times, but it just reminded me of growing up will all brothers and male cousins-been there, done that. I'd only be interested if the Gottis started talking about the 'family business', which of course they probably won't.

i've never seen gotti, the idea of watching filthy rich people and their money, ugh. i'm still hopelessly addicted to "survivor" although i'm getting really ticked off that all the nasty wipes are winning.... i hate twila and scout. they are both jerks. i'm hella mad amy got voted off, now i'm rooting for eliza, even though she voted amy off. i liked her from day one. her or jules, i hope either of them win, or even the guy, i dunno, anyone but those 2 jerks!

and i'm still ticked the hot guy got voted off!!!! ( john k )

I was ecstatic when Ami got voted off. Of course, I'm always rooting for people to upset the plans of the "power cliques" so it was sweet to see Scout, Twila and Chris convince Eliza to vote with them. Now, I think Chris and Eliza need to get Twila and Scout out by banding with Julie.

awww but ami was so nice!! i'd much rather see the nice people win rather the the ruthless money grubbing swearing their son's life ( whatever it was, i missed that episode) lying buttheads win!

i don't think twila wins even if she gets to the final 2. sarge and chad won't vote for her becuase she betrayed them at the merge. ami and leann won't because they don't like her, eliza doesn't ( if she joins the jury) none of the women on the jury like scout either.

my money's on chris to win right now becuase he hasn't been a butt to anyone, and i think he'll be in there until at least final 3, and could easily be in the final 2

After thinking about this a bit more, I must admit that if they actually made "Tiny House" (fake reality show from the Geico ads) I would totally watch it, because that looked frickin' hilarious.

Call me cynical, but isn't that pretty much what they already are?

Comedy Central also has "Drawn Together" -- an animated "reality show" -- which is, of course, completely scripted. And, man, how unfunny is that thing. I sat through part of an episode the other day after "South Park" and just got annoyed.
