Grants Rant

I have noticed that unneccesary reaching when the other team gets the defensive rebound. He needs to stop that for two reasons: one he picks up fouls and second is that his man runs down the court while he is still in the back court. The second reason is really crushing the defense at times because Cousins is already slow to begin with so he shouldn't give the other guy a head start.

Yep. Someone gets a rebound right next to him, and he spends another second going for the ball. I don't the ratio of his steals to fouls in this scenario, but your point about him needing to get back on defense is spot on. We need that more than we need fouls or steals.

Bigger, Badder, Better works. We finally got some size, thus we are Bigger. The talent on this team is Better. As of right now, the team is Badder.

Is Badder really a word? Hmmm, I have to go look that one up. Bigger I can handle. So far I'm not down with Better..

Uh.. I thought the exact same things when Grant made those comments. WTF?! He's reach in on a guard on the opposite end of the court?

HE SHOULDN'T BE REACHING IN EVER!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry, but it's a pet peeve of mine. Yes he sometimes pokes the ball loose. That's great. He's also leading the league in fouls. That's terrible. How do you foul less? You try and reduce the unnecessary fouls. What's an unnecessary foul? A 7'er reaching in on anyone. It's a terrible habit for him to have. If he wants to reach in, how about doing it only when the man he's guarding puts the ball on the floor. Even then I'd say he's better off moving his feet and keeping his hands up.

The bad thing is that he picks up silly fouls by trying to do too much, like trying to poke the ball away from the other teams pt guard, or trying to knock the ball away from the other teams center. These are also the good things. Because these are all silly fouls that can be easily corrected. If the bulk of his fouls came from playing defense in the post, that would be more worrysome. That would show lack of defensive technique, which is an area in which he does need work. But more than half of his fouls are of the silly and easily corrected type. So while there are irritating, and they are affecting his time on the floor, I don't see them as a huge obstacle for him to overcome.

Some of his fouls are on the defensive end, but i think its due to bad conditioning which will get better over time. For example, somebody beats Cousins off the drive or is too fast for Cousins to defend, so he ends up fouling them to save the basket.
