Grant and Jerry future?

I can see Jerry leaving, but not Grant. It would in a sense be poetic justice because of how blindly he supported the Maloofs even when any idiot know what they were up to. I even got called a moron and hung up on because I called in after the Maloofs backed out and said that the Maloofs will try to move the team again. He asked what I based that on, and I told him "HISTORY is what I base that on" so I got called a moron and hung up on lol.

Reynolds is a nice guy but I think he is awful on TV.

As a pbp Grant is decent. The only reason I would want to see him leave are those outside of the game. His a-hole Jim Rome style is tired and obnoxious.

IMO, They are the best at what they do. I watch alot of basketball on league pass and other teams commentators dont come close to Grant & Jerry. They have been with the team through thick and thin.. they deserve too be here when we rise up again. We need too keep them around!

I have never listened to Grant on the radio and don't plan to do so. I like Jerry and Grant as announcers. They are strange bed fellows but that is part of what makes it interesting. A hick and a New Yorker makes it unique. I want them retained as we have to have SOME connection to the past and these two guys have been here longer than anyone else - I think. I certainly wouldn't change them just for the sake of change. They have institutional memory and can give historical perspective of this franchise as they have lived through all of it at least the Sacramento part of it.

I want Grant gone. He is a selfish a-hole who only cared about his job and defended the Maloofs to the end. He didn't care a lick about Sacramento until the end when it was apparent the Maloofs was selling the team to Seattle. I want EVERYTHING associated with the Maloofs to be cleaned out!

grant shouldn't be allowed to do radio. he was just awful during the last years when the goofs were trying to move the team. i got hung up on several times for voicing my opinion about the goofs.

I feel the same disdain for him, but the fact is there is a reason he is hosting the Jim rome show three times next week (how many other local sports talk hosts have that clout?). KHTK needs someone who can compete with the bay area stations in terms of numbers, and Grant holds his own. We may dislike him, but most of us are still listening and thats why he is paid

On pbp, I still don't understand the point of Jerry Reynolds.. Kind of the less analytical, old-school hick there to play off Grant.

This would be a terrible decision. You aren't going to find a better duo out there that make the games interesting even when the games aren't interesting. C'mon Vivek, don't make change just for the sake of change. I doubt he will in this case.

It would be a business decision to change the the broadcasters. In relaunching a struggling brand you have to walk the the fine line between not enough change to bring in new consumers, and so much change you push away your loyal core. While few fans would stop watching games with out G&J, the 'feel" might well become so AstroTurf it would be hard to build on. Tradition matters, and fans like consumers of any long existing label, will have difficulty if the product does not have any historical connection. Imagine Makers mark with out the wax, or Boodles in a round bottle... then you are just down on the second shelf battling away with Johny-com-latelys. If you want new fans to get committed, you show them what is new and you also show them the jerseys in the rafters, the penents and traditions since the team came to Sacramento. Grant and Jerry are part of that tradition. Of course having a new version of House Party as a warm up and 1/2 time relief would also go far in bringing in new fans.

It's a tough call. I like jerry. Grant I can take or leave. If Grant stays then he should not be allowed to comment about the Kings on his radio show. I could see why the new ownership would want a fresh start though. I say keep jerry and get a new guy. Grant will find a spot somewhere.

Great post with a great perspective ! I agree! I want Grant and Jerry to stay. Grant is the best announcer to be found and I just like Jerry despite his homerism...

You didn't have to listen if you didnt like or agree with what he was/is saing. You have to understand that he was an employee of the Maloofs. Yeah it sucked but what did you expect him to say. "yeah my bosses are *******s" on public radio? Why Blame him for working two jobs that pay plenty? Are you that holier than thou that you would have quit just to be noble? Kudos if you are but cmon, give the guy a break. He had a harder job blending the two than we could imagine. Conflict of interst? Sure, but at least I always knew it for what it was. Put it in perspective. Know that he will always speak the party line. It used to be maloof...Now it will be Ranidive. Expect more of the same if things remain status quo....and thats ok bu me.

Some of you people cannot be serious. I'll allow for the possibility that I may be overly harsh with Napear at times, but when I hear people say things like Napear is one of the best announcers in the business, it makes me wonder what the hell their criteria is for good announcing? Shouting? Catchphrases and schlock? Napear may not be as horrible as I think he is, but there's no way he's one of the best. To put him in the top third is generous.

What? Seems like a bunch of excuses for Grant being an *** for years to Kings fans. We understand the conflict of interest, but that has nothing to do with him shouting down, name calling and hanging up on most fans who brought up viewpoints which were in opposition to the Maloofs.

An example would be for about a year he shouted at and hung up on any fan who wanted to fix up Arco and play in it as an option. Grant at one point said it's ludicrous to even acknowledge such an option and he would no longer take calls on it, until of course George came out and said the same thing, Grant immediately did a 180 and started bashing callers who not only said it wasn't an option, but also pointed out Grant was in opposition to George's new plan for about a year, which of course Grant never acknowledged.

Point being, there's a way to toe the line without being a complete ***hat to Kings fans.

And then there's his personal vendetta's against members and former members of our team. His shouting argument with Webber last year on KHTK was an embarrassment. His continued bashing of Webber the entire week without Webber there to defend himself was even more embarrassing. Doing repeated "Grant's Rant's" on Cuz, a current member of our team and the youngest player on our team and essentially putting him on blast shows pettiness and immaturity. He's unprofessional on the radio and overrated as a PBP guy who sugarcoats everything and acts like IT is a future HOFer while practically ignoring our two best players, unless it's a slight against Cuz.

And if your stance is if you don't like it don't listen, please give me links to the other Sac stations which cover the Kings in depth.

Grant does not need or deserve our pity. He'll be just fine if we cut the ties. And, he was absolutely NOT "with us through thick and thin", backing the Maloofs when they were wanting to MOVE TO ANAHEIM.

If Vivek is true to his words: "Excellence at all levels", we'll have new broadcasters. We can get a Scot Pollard or Carmichael Dave to preserve some of the institutional memory, that is not a problem. We can find a similarly talented pbp person, too. Let's have some self respect, people.

And nothing against Jerry Reynolds. He's a great guy. I just think he's not that into it anymore, and honestly his analysis is lacking. "Well the Kings just need to play better, that's all there is to it." Maybe he could do some feature pieces though.

>gotta get our kings fix some how? fans try to stay connected somehow not disconnected.

You have to understand that he was an employee of the Maloofs.

>no **** sherlock. everybody was aware he worked for the goofs

Yeah it sucked but what did you expect him to say. "yeah my bosses are *******s" on public radio?

>its part of the job. somehow jason ross maintains without hanging up on fans that call in. why can't grant?

Why Blame him for working two jobs that pay plenty?

>who's blaming him for doing that?

>i'm not a religious person. i would have a found a way to do the job without trashing the fans.

i admit his play by play on tv is good but it's time for peaches to move on from the radio gig.

At what point will you look at the Kings and not even recognize the old franchise, and will that bother you? Serious question, not just being snide.

I have never listened to Grant's radio show, but as a kid watching the Kings, Napear has grown on me as a play-by-play announcer. I like and he is definitely better than some bland NBA TV announcers. But knowing his stance on the Maloofs and moving, I want him out at all costs. Reynolds was ok but didn't add much insight besides the obvious.

It's been a few years since I had league pass but Grant is better than half the league as a PBP guy. Probably should get a demotion or canned from his radio gig.

We could probably do better than Jerry but he fits the standard mold for 2nd/color guy.

I wouldn't mind a fresh start at all, just think this is a be careful what you wish for kind of deal. You can bring in a former player (as many teams do) and they sound like mush mouth but since they are so beloved by the fans and community many tolerate it. I do not support bringing Koz back. If there is a proven talent looking for a gig, sure why not? One thing is that Grant and Jerry aren't looking at Sac as a stepping stone to a national gig at this stage of their career which is another thing you can appreciate.

I want to keep grant and Jerry as our TV broadcast team whether they are the best or the worst. They are ours and they are the ones I enjoy listening to. Why change? Please don't change.

Again, so what? If you dont like his schtick, and that is part of his appeal and why his ratings are No. 1...don't listen if your skin is so thin. I like it. It makes for good radio.

Look, I get it. I understand why some Kingsfans on this board don't like him and why they want him gone. I listen to him all the time. I've heard it all, and enjoyed it for what it was. The conflict between the radio and his game calling is going to be always be there as long as he does both. I happen to believe he is very good at both and am able to separate the two. Shock Jock or NBA play by play man.

Like it or not, Webber is and always has been a bit of a diva. I say that knowing he is my favorite Kings player ever. Webber was completely uninformed of what was happening about the Kings move and did not have the facts straight. Grant was trying to set the record straight and Webber blew up. Webber and he have always had a strained relationship that had been fueled long before this whole thing had flared up. I have met both men and found them both to be likable people. Perhaps my fondness for Grant comes from the fact that I lived in NY for 5 years and get what New Yorkers are all about. They are loud, brash and unapologetic generally but with a certain charm that grows on you over time. As for Cuz, well I will trust that Grant has some pretty valid reasons that we are not privy to that he sees all season long, on flights, in hotels, at restaurants, and in the locker room. We have only seen the tip of the iceberg. I am for signing him to the max because talent like that doesnt just come along every day, especially in Sacramento but, HE HAS SOME ISSUES. Im willing to take the risk. All I would ask is don't to be too defensive of a Kings player when he deserves a little criticism. Are you so sensitive that you cannot handle a few hard truths about our players? Let's face it, Cuz, at this point in his career is a spoiled child that has not learned to control his emotions. I believe, long term, he will. Regardless, just because there may be some criticizing of our players by a sports talk radio host, I wouldn't worry too much that DMC will get his panties all bunched up and walk away in a huff over it.

As far as better Kings coverage out there? There isnt any. Im willing to keep listening Grant along with the great coverage provided.

If Grant gets canned, I won't shed any tears. I dislike him on the radio and think he is needlessly rude to his listeners. On TV he is OK, but I won't be loyal to a guy who stuck with the Maloofs instead of the fans. The guy's got a wife and kids, so whatever happens, I hope he lands on his feet.

Jerry, for all the dumb things he says, I enjoy. And the guy's probably close enough to retirement anyway that you should just let him ride it out until he doesn't want to anymore.
