I think Bricklayer is accurate with Webber's grade. He did play a good game, not a great one, but a good one. He didn't have his A game offensively and maybe not even his B game. But he came through when it counted as stars do.

He did play unusually strong defense tonight. Can't tell you why he played so much better than normal. maybe he got up for a tough opponent, maybe he made a New Year's resolution to play better defense, maybe he forgot that he was supposed to be aging and slowing down and hobbled by surgery, but tonight at least on the defensive side of the ball he backed up all that stuff he said at the beginning of the year that I thought was silly. Well tonight I will eat everything I thought and said about those comments. I thought it was BS and while he had been playing well I still didn't think he was living up to what he said.

With all that said, he didn't play well in the areas he normally does. and for those reasons I couldn't give him an A

VF21, I did not notice the moans you were speaking of with less than a minute left in the game. My section was to busy chewing their nails.
Cool! Then it might have just been in an area the mikes happened to pick up...

Just how loudly does your section chew their nails anyway????

;)

I would argue that all he did well would merit an A-...

Especially considering how Bricklayer usually establishes the grades.

Just to let you all know, Horry was booed loudly and often. He got a special bye bye from all of us when he fouled out. Another priceless moment courtesy of the Sacramento Kings!

See post #185 in the PBP thread.

There was less than a minute left. The score was 80-78 and Bibby passed to Webber, who was open about two feet inside the arc. As soon as he lined up to take the jumper you could hear the moans. He made it - with nothing but net, BTW - and then turned and glared at some people in the crowd. Grant was upset, too...
<whispers> It was DC who passed behind himself to Webb. See my post in that thread:p

No Grant was reacting to Webb. Not really the crowd.

Nice grades Brick...

The Rook was awesome tonight. That pass between Barrys legs was unbelievable. That dunk was sweet also.

Was great to see Peja manhandle Bowen. Although Im not sure that wasn't Bowen just having a really bad night. I don't think he looked too good out there.

Webb was awesome. Nice to see him great in all facets of the game... excluding to's of course.

Threw a nifty very Kingsesque behind the back, between the defender's legs pass to Darius in the second half. Fit right in.
That was a sweet pass. They kept showing it up on the screen at least 4 times.

I agree with kgrichwine. I didn't notice the moans either about Webber taking that jumper. And my section did wave bye bye to Robert Horry.

All I have to say is this Kings team played really good.

Martin ( A+ ) -- if last game was Martin's coming out party, this was the one that just instantly cemented him into the rotation. I was impressed and surprised that Rick would even risk playing him in such a big game. But Kevin quickly eliminated any and all doubts that he belonged out there. Just a special performance by the kid -- absolutely did it all and made a couple of tremendous up out of your seat plays, including a coast to coast dunk to end the first half. Gave us excellent energy on the glass, and at times was running a bit of PG. Threw a nifty very Kingsesque behind the back, between the defender's legs pass to Darius in the second half. Fit right in.
Ladies and Gentlemen, meet your future starting SG.;) Let him continue to be mentored at the feet of DC until the torch is ready to be passed

Most of my favorite players are on the Spurs and Kings.

Webber's inconsistency on offense and defense can obviously be attributed to his health.

I don't see what "Webber's fatique and injuries? Uh, what???" means? Not trying to be a pest or disrespectful here, just asking.

All I am trying to point out is that Webber is not healthy enough to give a defense effort like he did against Duncan every night, and on offense he is obviously not the same player he was a few years ago.

I was asking a question as to why Webber can't play more D, and be a bit more efficient on O. The answer is clear, his health.

I want to see Webber succeed, but naturally I am going to attribute his struggles on D and on offense (in comparison to the prime Webb) to his health.

What is your question with that VF21?
i took no offense your your remark about his health.

even before the injury, chris was either incapable or unwilling to deliver this type of performance on the defensive side night in and night out. IMO, with the injury he's going to have nights where his body just won't do the things his mind asks of it. last night was a night where he was clearly focused on his task, and physically up to it.

i'm not asking webber to do all this every night. i just care that come playoff time, he brings it. and there is a reasonable chance that we will see more games like this because there are no back-to-backs in the playoffs.

the moans were clearly audible from my tv set. not sure if it was the mic from grant & jerry's desk picking it up, but grant made a big deal out of it as it happened.

Hard to watch a guy hold TD to 6-17 shooting, tie him up, alter his shot and essentialy make him miserable for 35 min and NOT give him a full A even if that same player also had 7 TO's of his own.
Agreed. Web was amazing. Yes he had too many TO's, but the way he played Duncan was key.

Peja had a great game. Hopefully this isn't just one game and he is learning to be aggressive and physical.

RA did a good job of playing the bench. Hopefully he sticks to it. (Although Tag should play more).

Webb's line.. 6/15 FG, 2/2 FT, 14 pts, 13 reb, 7 ast, 4 stl, 3 blk, 7 TO
Duncan's..... 6/17 FG, 2/6 FT, 14 pts, 11 reb, 4 ast, 3 stl, 1 blk, 3 TO

In times past we would hope for Webb and Duncan to cancel each other out, counting on the rest of our team to outperform the rest of theirs. It was amazing to see a post-surgery Webber outperform TD to this extent. And that clutch jumper AND free throws(!) down the stretch were great to see.

Watching Peja make Bowen look invisible just made me smile.

And has anyone ever made a behind the back, between the legs assist before? I can't wait to see what the kid does next, but that'll be hard to top!

What is your question with that VF21?
Webber is not healthy enough? According to whom?

My question with your comments is that while he does take a game off once in a while, there has been absolutely NO indicatiion that he is anything other than healthy...

Relatively speaking and under his circumstances, I guess he is healthy.

I guess I have to accept the fact that he likely won't have the same bounce in his step as he did even in 0102.

Sad, but I guess true. But there is a part of me that hopes he still finds that old energy and bounce in his step on a more consistent basis.

I am just going by Brick's grades and by the half a dozen or so Kings games I have seen this season. Obviously Webber is not the SAME as he was 2-3 years ago. And I am just saying thats mostly a function of injuries.

Of course he isn't the same, and if you are looking for him to be the same player he used to be, you will probably end up being disappointed. HOWEVER, he has recovered remarkably well, and, for the most part, is playing well within the new confines of his game. He's adapted his game, and is still able to put up numbers similiar to his career stats. He's had a few games and more individual plays where he looks a lot like the Webber of old
