Rick HAD to win this game. I am very happy that he kept the starters in the game late into the fourth quarter. A "surprise" loss would have been devestating, and could have ruined careers, including his own. The consequence of error was too great to put the bench into the game early in the fourth quarter.

I also have never seen Adelman so visibly angry with his team. It worked. Peja and the boys looked like they had been taken behind the woodshed. I suspect Bonzi and Corliss loved the tirade. I loved the entire show.

Bonzi "A+"
Adelman "A"
Lots of "B" grades around.

Thank you Brickie for putting so much effort into these analyses.

Did you WATCH the game, Aries?

For the first time, the bench didn't go out there and stink up the court. They didn't toss up lots of errant shots. They played within the game plan. They weren't supposed to score a lot of points. They were supposed to play defense and hold the lead so the starters could get a little breather.

The last thing we need is for the subs to think it's up to them to save the game. We've seen what happens when they get that mindset and it ain't pretty.

Team grade: A+ They made a few mistakes, but they did NOT allow them to take away the momentum. And Rick Adelman was superb!!!
I will say it was a pretty good all around game. With the exception of poor defensive rebounding early on, and some soft passing that could have gone bad...everything seemed better tonight.

What a nice performance. Who is this team?! Bonzi A++. Starters A. Seattle defense D - absolutely awful. Hard to believe the Sonics had won 4 of their last 5 prior to this game?!

Nice win, Kings - a step in the right direction. Tonight's game is really important as the next two on the road are likely Losses.

The lack of a straight A here comes for am old pet peeve of mine with Rick -- his borderline unsportsmanlike tendency to run his starters to the bitter end of blowout games. Not only does it come dangerously close to being unclassy running up the score, but it risks stupid unnecessary injuries to key guys, gives the bench no time to work out the kinks, nor does it give the benchers any confidence, and on a night when you know you have to fly back to Sacto to play again in less than 24 hours, it puts extra wear and tear on the main guy's legs for nothing. Was particularly annoyed to see us call a timeout (or maybe it was the Sonics) with 2:40 to go, while up 16, with at least three starters still on the floor, and come back out of the timeout with all three of those guys still in the game. Ridiculous. Only gets a half-pass tonight because of the desperation of our situation, and need for a win. Anwyay, can't overshadow what was otherwise a very strong night for Rick, but it did leave a bad taste in my mouth to close things up.
Thats a pretty well reasoned judgement, but there's the battered and abused Kings fan within my psyche that may never again trust that a 20 point lead, even with 2 minutes to go, is "secure".

It is great to see a win, on the road no less. Good game all.

Amazing game Bonzi.

Instead of nit-picking the things that could be nit-picked, I will just take a deep breath, read the recaps, drink a Pepsi, and enjoy a nice win.

Yoda goes to bed with a smile:)
LMAO, that's nothing compare to the sleepless nights you've had lately I imagine :D. Hope they'd give us more smily nights.

no i live in los angeles..... all i saw was the box score that said that the starters scored 110 points in the first game of a back to back the night before playing a team that blew us out by 24 points..... i dont care how you spin that..... that is wrong..... your starters shouldnt be scoring 110 points.... the team as a whole should only be getting 104.....

I'm not spinning anything. I'm sorry, but the box score simply does NOT tell the whole tale.

I watched every single second of the game and I think - with the POSSIBLE exception of the last couple of minutes, when he MIGHT have gone to the bench a tad earlier - Adelman did a perfect job of coaching. He made sure the game was a WIN, which was absolutely imperative.

When you're faced with a REAL opportunity to end a losing streak ON THE ROAD against a team that slapped you a couple of weeks before, YOU TAKE IT. Period.

It doesn't matter if it's the first game of a back to back or not.

Had Adelman taken the starters out earlier AND had this game slip away like the Rockets game, he would have been in the unemployment line and the entire season might really have been in the toilet.

That was a MUST WIN game, IMHO. You have to do whatever it takes to get the win and hopefully let the momentum AND the fans at home get you through the next night.
