Don't Make Me Use The Bat
Peja ( C ) -- started out scorching and working very well with Webb, but then got into quick foul trouble trying to stay with Vince that forced him to the bench. After that never did regain his rhythm, blew several point blank layups, an open three etc. Still wasn't an awful performance so much as just a very quiet one. What started out as a three man butt kicking with our entire frontcourt going off was reduced to a two man gang (Webb and Miller) after the first quarter.
Webber ( A+ ) -- what a performance in the home opener. Had 7 assists in the first quarter as a PF, which is just ridiculous, and had a triple double with 3 or 4 minutes to go in the 3rd. Just played beautifully within himself. Never forced anything, and made it look so so easy. His passing keyed the entire early run, and provided key settling baskets to Peja, Bibby and Bobby. Didn't look particularly spry physcially and was playing the game on the ground, but still got his hands on a lot of balls and was fast enough when he needed to be.
Miller ( A ) -- he and Webb were just great tonight. Had a double double in the first half, and for the first time this year we saw both Burly Brad on the boards, and the great smooth outside shooting Brad that causes so many matchup problems. Also swung over and smoothly took the reins of the offense during those times when Webb sat down.
Christie ( C ) -- not a very good outing for Doug. In the first half was pressing and one of the few players breaking the offense to take quick shots. Settled down in the second half, but never had any impact on the game. Barnes and Evans were at least as good.
Bibby ( B- ) -- tough one to grade. Never did get into any sort of rhythm on offense and was having trouble containing Rafer Alston. On the other hand joined the great passing attack tonight, and provided a welcome boost on the boards. Overall about as good a performance as you could hope for from Mike on a night when the shot was not there.
BJax ( B+ ) -- Came in in aggressive Bobby fashion from the very beginning, but started to press again in the second quarter. Settled down though as the game went along, and was very solid in the second half.
Barnes ( B+ ) -- have I mentioned I like this guy? Still mixed in some sloppy moments, but energy and hustle throughout, and did a nice job spelling both Doug and Peja.
Songaila ( C+ ) -- had some offensive moments, but not much else. Some of the calls against him were questionable, but he was still a half step slow on defense and getting himself in foul trouble, and also was having a hard time hanging onto rebounds.
Evans ( B+ ) -- came in with great energy, and just sort of a *pow* off the bench. Not a dominant game, but along with Barnes & Bobby provided some great hustle.
Martin ( INC ) -- short garbagetime stint. Still doesn't look ready -- feeling his way right now.
Daniels ( INC ) -- shor stint. Got his first NBA hoop on a nice follow tip.
Adelman ( A- ) -- gets the minus just because I didn't like the move to bring Webb back into the game in the 4th quarter with us up by 24pts and only 8 or 9 minutes to go. But otherwise this was a perfect game for us -- we were ready to play, and play together, from the start, we got our swagger back, played our passing game beautifully, and ended it early so that our starters could rest for the back to back tommorow night. Just what the doctor ordered.
