Don't Make Me Use The Bat
Peja ( C ) -- started out scorching and working very well with Webb, but then got into quick foul trouble trying to stay with Vince that forced him to the bench. After that never did regain his rhythm, blew several point blank layups, an open three etc. Still wasn't an awful performance so much as just a very quiet one. What started out as a three man butt kicking with our entire frontcourt going off was reduced to a two man gang (Webb and Miller) after the first quarter.
Webber ( A+ ) -- what a performance in the home opener. Had 7 assists in the first quarter as a PF, which is just ridiculous, and had a triple double with 3 or 4 minutes to go in the 3rd. Just played beautifully within himself. Never forced anything, and made it look so so easy. His passing keyed the entire early run, and provided key settling baskets to Peja, Bibby and Bobby. Didn't look particularly spry physcially and was playing the game on the ground, but still got his hands on a lot of balls and was fast enough when he needed to be.
Miller ( A ) -- he and Webb were just great tonight. Had a double double in the first half, and for the first time this year we saw both Burly Brad on the boards, and the great smooth outside shooting Brad that causes so many matchup problems. Also swung over and smoothly took the reins of the offense during those times when Webb sat down.
Christie ( C ) -- not a very good outing for Doug. In the first half was pressing and one of the few players breaking the offense to take quick shots. Settled down in the second half, but never had any impact on the game. Barnes and Evans were at least as good.
Bibby ( B- ) -- tough one to grade. Never did get into any sort of rhythm on offense and was having trouble containing Rafer Alston. On the other hand joined the great passing attack tonight, and provided a welcome boost on the boards. Overall about as good a performance as you could hope for from Mike on a night when the shot was not there.
BJax ( B+ ) -- Came in in aggressive Bobby fashion from the very beginning, but started to press again in the second quarter. Settled down though as the game went along, and was very solid in the second half.
Barnes ( B+ ) -- have I mentioned I like this guy? Still mixed in some sloppy moments, but energy and hustle throughout, and did a nice job spelling both Doug and Peja.
Songaila ( C+ ) -- had some offensive moments, but not much else. Some of the calls against him were questionable, but he was still a half step slow on defense and getting himself in foul trouble, and also was having a hard time hanging onto rebounds.
Evans ( B+ ) -- came in with great energy, and just sort of a *pow* off the bench. Not a dominant game, but along with Barnes & Bobby provided some great hustle.
Martin ( INC ) -- short garbagetime stint. Still doesn't look ready -- feeling his way right now.
Daniels ( INC ) -- shor stint. Got his first NBA hoop on a nice follow tip.

Adelman ( A- ) -- gets the minus just because I didn't like the move to bring Webb back into the game in the 4th quarter with us up by 24pts and only 8 or 9 minutes to go. But otherwise this was a perfect game for us -- we were ready to play, and play together, from the start, we got our swagger back, played our passing game beautifully, and ended it early so that our starters could rest for the back to back tommorow night. Just what the doctor ordered.

My only complaint is Bibby. The guy got 11 assists and kept Skip fairly well contained (exceto those killer 3's) He ran the offense like a well oild machine, so I give him a full B if not B+ I doubt Webber and Miller would have looked nearly as good with out Bibby's brain on the point.

It was a beautiful game, and Webb did it all. The passes were on the money and his offensive game was there. The team played good defense, especially when DC, Brad, and Webb all got a block one after the other.:)

i'm definitely happy with barnes and evans additions to the team. evans can jump and he's the kinda of the guy who can bring out the energy when needed. he's like jimmy jackson with extra *punch* :D

i think the real test is tomorrow. i hope we will be playing at the same level on the road.

Didn't watch the game, but I probably will soon. Great to see that Cwebb got a triple double. Its been awhile since we have seen a win, let alone a blowout. Great game by the Kings, let's hope we can carry some momentum into the next game. Thanks for the graes Brick.

I Love This Team!!!

I fully agree with the grades, although I'd have no problem whatsoever with giving Bibby a straight B.

But we're going to have to do something about Webber.

;)

couldn't ask for a better game from our big guys. bibby still held it together for the team, but i agree with your grades! great post!

Well, pretty good on the grades for the most part. I was impressed. The Kings did the right things at the right times, as a team. If one guy wasn't having a great night in one area, they made up for it. That is what I was looking for personally. It was the first game I was able to see and I was pretty impressed with the Bench. Why no Tag? Is he hurt still? Either way, I give the team an A for a smart ball game where we played well within our capabilities.

i had a great signal tonight, so this was music to my ears. what a game by webber. i was very impressed, and disappointed that this wasn't on TV. i did see a few clips on NBA nation on espn 2, but it wasn't the same.

even thought bibby didn't shoot or defend well, i still think he had a good game. 11 dimes is good any day of the week IMO. it was great to see bobby shoot better. peja peja peja, where are you!!! come back soon, preferable tommorrow :) and of course miller time. he was great.

my fav play was when christe, webber and miller blocked.... woods 3 shot attempts in a row ( the order of the blockers might be wrong, but i know christie was first, and that c-webb and miller were the other 2) that was freaking awesome. i loved seeing the replay of that on NBA nation :)

minutes were down, scoring WAY up, the team sounded great. it sounded like the kings had the same effort they did against the rockettes, but this time they got the results they wanted. and i get to watch the game tommorrow WOOOOO HOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

WTG KINGS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I know that we didn't allow more than 92 points, but can anyone tell me how our overall defense was? Or was it the the Raps just shot poorly?

it was a little of both

there was one sequence in the game were the kings had 3 consecutive blocks on the Raptors: the first by doug, then brad, and then webber

The Raptors did score 92 points but at least 8 of them came in garbage time which was like the last six minutes in the 4th

I Some How Knew We Would Be Back After The Game Against Houston Where We Played Well And Should've Won....

Go Kings!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah Baby!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

31 ASSISTS!!! SO FUN TO WATCH!!!

Yeah that was a really play. Was fun to watch.

That's why Vlade is not King anymore. Web is smart enough to adjust his game to his physical limitation the same way Vlade did long time ago. Now Web is playing Vlade style and has the same strengths and weaknesses Vlade had + Miller play similar game. Even if Vlade doesn't regress, with him Kings would have 3 same players but nobody to compensate their weaknesses.

Webber is still a decent rebounder, albeit with limited lift off the floor. Now he is not averaging 17 boards like KG, but I will be happy with him grabbing 10+ which is something Vlade couldn't do anymore. So I suppose with Webb, Miller and Otag as our bigs it should be a significant improvement in terms grabbing boards. I think as a team we lost little bit of our finesse passing but the flipside is that we have become a better rebounding team (or at least should've) and a bit tougher. Now if could only get Peja to be more active and consistent on the boards then I think we will be fine.

In my opinion Miller was the man last night..... That guy just doesn't give up....

Bibby's mark was to high (IMO), because I really wasn't impressed with much of what he did last night. Luckily, he wasn't the main factor in the game....

Overall, very good game for the Kings!

I like this report card thread! Brick lays those grades out there with comfort and ease, seems to know what's what and I (along with everyone else) appreciate the read.

We all needed that win last night in the worst possible way, and it looked as good on the court as it does on paper. Web's assists were outstanding, and he and Brad were making it easy on Peja. Peja will get his mojo back, I have no doubt. He showed signs of his former self in the first quarter, true. Little by little he's coming back around, but Web....he was a monster on the half court, I absolutely cheered on his unselfish play last night, wooo friggin' hoooo!!! He looked like a vision of Vlade out there at the elbow shoving the ball everywhere, it was a sight to behold, I loved it!

This win has got to do things for our guys that NOTHING ELSE could have. I hope they carry it over to tonight at Sonics.

i really love the comments on CWebb...cuz he really did make the game look o so easy...AND he didn't look like he was being physically restrained by some part of his body....

Brad was great...ofcourse i wouldn't say anything different....the jumpers he hits are so so pretty...wooh

i freakin LOVE Matt Barnes....i mean i really think he's a great release for Peja or Doug...he really fits in well...lovin him...plus he's super easy to look at...which in my book makes any situation better

nothing i like more is hustle plays...insert Evans...he stayed with every play...played with tremendous effort....

great game....thats the kind of game that makes people just love the NBA

keep it up tonight guys...the sonics are rollin with the big dogs so far this year....good luck
