Don't Make Me Use The Bat
Well, I was involved in a half-hearted losing battle for the remote last night, so take these what they are worth. Watched enough, and made some quicknie notes, so...
Also, since the next game is almost upon us...the theme shall be...Completely Useless Font Colors. Lame and eye-busting, and you will wish I had not posted this thread. But low maintenance and quick.
Salmons ( C+ ) -- minor support effort in place of Ron. Not relevant to the outcome.
Thomas ( B- ) -- some good activity on the glass early, but slowed down, got into foul trouble, and was not effective as we got backcourt centric
Miller ( C ) -- started off the game getting blocked by Jermaine, scored on by Jermaine, and generally a nothing first half. Even managed to get outquicked by Troy Murphy. Was slightly better after half, and played a minor inside reboudnign role as ike and Kevin went nutty.
Martin ( A ) -- was basically having a terrible first half that had me, get this, with the note "has he quit?" scribbled down. Was going for a third down game in a row and appeared to be trying to personally make Jermaine O'Neal the elading shotblocker in the league. Was off to another bad start, and against Mike Dunleavy of all people. But one of those "funny thing" games, as he finally got a pair of FTs in the final 2 minutes of the first half, and that seemed to spark some energy, leading to two quick layups just before the break. And then the third quarter was just remarkable --21pts on brilliant stuff, on terrible Pacers plays, and on one amazinfg sequence when the Pacers just flat out quit. I mean, the whole team quit/was demoralized. Just pouted, walked down the court, and Brad threw the ball ahead to Kevin for a freebie. Kind of thing that can get a coach fired. Kevin actually continued to have problems going over Jermaine, who must have had 3-4 blocks on Kevin alone. But was having NO problems with the Pacers guards, and was just toasting them on every play. So how much can you give for on big quarter? And one in which a guy shoots nearly as many FTs as the entire other team? Yet shoots himself 8-23? We even tried to collapse late, but could not manage it against a heartless Pacers team that gave up in the third. So...er...I think in years past the bad half, bad shooting, one quarter, FT centric nature of this one might lead to a "-". But this year? Hey, this year the warts aren't really relevant, Kevin and Mike's 3rd quarter outburst clearly won the game, and so straight A for dominating action during the key stretch of the game.
Bibby ( A ) -- started off the game hot with no Ron, and was the only reason we were remotely hanging around in the early going. And while he slowed down a bit in the second quarter, in the third he and Kevin put on a ridiculous show completely exposing the sad state of the Pacers' guardline. A huge 40pt outburst, where our guards scored 31 straight points for us, a night after a beyond pathetic 5 combined in New Jersey. And that can be more than enough against the Pacers, who can't score and depend on broing their opponents into not scoring as well. Unlike Kevin's game, which was kind of freaky with the enormous free throw total and missed shots, Mike's was pretty much just a straight ahead get whatever shot I want and knock them down game. And he was "A" #2. Two man wrecking crew matched against nobody.
Cisco ( B- ) -- did nothing in the first half, but came in at the end of the third to hit a three, and did more good than bad down a shaky 4th quarter for us. Same time of the year he came alive last season. Let's just not have any stupid injuries this time.
Reef ( B ) -- solid start, and provided the 2nd weapon to go with Mike in the early going. As we became completely backcourt centered in the second half, Reef disappeared offensively, but a second straight solid board night for him. did not stop Jermaine, but made him work a little.
Corliss ( D ) -- got off to another early struggle, and hasn;t been heard from since before the All Star break. What is up?
Price ( B- ) -- played a brave, but none too bright first half. More than willing to go inside and challenge the bigs, but dubiously effective. Came back in at the end of the third, and immediately came up with a nice block from behind on McCleod, and followed it up with a bucket. Nothing after that, but it was sort fo the capper to the big quarter.
Douby ( INC ) -- a jumper in garbagetime
Williams ( INC ) -- a dunk in garbagetime
Hart ( INC ) -- ? boxscore said he played? did he? I wasn't really paying attention? BTW, now it is past the deadline...why aren't we releasing him agian? Just to be jerks? Oh well, minor point. I had forgotten he was even on the team.
