Okay, there comes a point when the hyperbole becomes unfair to a guy like Corliss. This is a former 17ppg scorer and 6th Man of the Year we are talking about, and really, his game doesn't appear to have slipped THAT much. Certainly on a team rounding out its bench with Harts Taylors Potapenkos Doubys and Prices he isn't a 12th man. I've always found him an awkward misfit piece in the NBA, but he can be a walking mismatch correctly applied, and he knows how to play. The question is do we know how to use him? He is NOT a PF, and playing him at C is just a joke. Playing him at C against Dwight Howard...![]()
12th man was hyperbole on my part, and yeah, with the right matchups he can be very effective, especially when an opposing team tries to go small. But against the Spurs and Magic, teams with all 6'11"/7'0" frontlines it's just kind of ridiculous to play Corliss at PF and C becuase he's so badly outmatched. Corliss has his places, but he should be a matchup-driven sub, not a sub... just because. Maybe Muss is rewarding him for his hard work and energy to set an example, but KT/SAR/Miller, while possessing plenty of weaknesses themselves, are just much better than Corliss, particularly against big opposing lineups.
