Yuck.

There is absolutely no reason we should have lost this game. It was all 1001 self-inflicted papercuts, and aside from the big guy who's fault it always is, a nearly complete failure by anybody to step up. We had chance after chance, but if #15 wasn't doing it tonight, it wasn't going to get done, and the the number of sloppy unfocused plays on both ends of the floor was just maddening. Blown dunks, missed FTs, loose TOs, going under screens on defense, losuy defensive rebounding, badly timed fouls...if the refs had money on the game last time, maybe we as a team did this time. Betting against ourselves.

The good news: the sky is not falling. Many poor little chickie littles running around tonight, traumatized by a decade of bad ball, but tonight stood out precisely because we did not do the things that we know we should have. There is a way we play now, and we didn't do it. And hey, we are disappointed. Perhaps that is progress too. Knowing you should beat a team and the only reason you lost to them is because you beat yourselves is a mark of some respectability.

Starters

Gay ( C ) -- started off the game so strong as he and Cuz just pummeled the Magic in the early going. But then he completely disappeared. Completely. Had all of one bucket after half, late in the game. Never boarded or played tough. Seeing him get a flack jacket put on pointed to a physical issue however

Cousins ( A- ) -- a big big dominant offensive performance just rolling through the Magic's big front line play after play. But not perfect, as even Boogie's rebounding is off, and he missed several of them that he by all rights would normally grab.

Koufos ( C ) -- don't know what to say here. Seemed a fish out of water with the Magic bombing threes and us needing points, but we needed rebounds too, and I think we were better with him on the floor than off.

Featured Grade
Afflalo ( D- ) --I flirted with an F, but decided to be nice. Aaron struggled at both ends of the court tonight. He couldn't hit a shot, and he couldn't keep Fournier in front of him. He looked a step slow to me. It wasn't as though he only took tough shots. He managed to miss a couple of wide open threes. There were a couple of times he was guarding. Gordon, and he couldn't stay in front of him either. He only played 18 minutes, and there was a reason why. I hope he gets his legs back before Saturday's game. --Baja

Lawson ( C ) -- there is some bloom off this rose, as that inability to shoot has surprised in the number of problems it is creating. Eventually settled in and got productive. Scrapped harder on the glass than our 7'1" guy, but the size on defense is an issue. Missed two late FTs we needed.
-------------------------------------------------------------------

Bench

Casspi ( C+ ) -- well, he was back. Truly back this time, and playing aggressively. But not always effectively. Hit two threes on good kicks from Cuz, helpful. But take those away and he was 3-11 for 6pts on everything else, and couldn't finish in transition against the Magic length. At least there was some life, sloppy though it was.

Barnes ( D ) -- another bad outing for Matt, as he was right at the heart of our bench's first half meltdown that we seemed to never recover from mentally. more wild pay and bad turnovers, and the idiots were just playing too fast and loose against a young team that needs to run to win. Never returned after half.

Cauley-Stein ( D+ ) -- the last few games he has been having more defensive effect with his length, but the rebounding has reached such a pitiful peak now that I may never be able to justify giving him better than a D again. He actually flinched as one ball came toward him. Fumbled another as it his his hands. Just WTH. In other ways he actually looked marginally better, but...SMH.

McLemore ( C ) -- here was the issue tonight with Ben -- first, he was one of the very few Kings who made any application to provide Cuz some offensive support, and his newfound confidence survived the ugly Miami game. But Fornier lit him up badly as he trailed every time, and he was shaky down the stretch.

Temple ( D+ ) -- let Augustin light him up in his first stint, which had a lot to do with us chasing for most of the rest of the game.

This was horrible.

WCS is a bust. He is mentally (not physically) too weak to be of any worth. He can't shoot, can't pass can't rebound, can't correctly set a screen, and can't get in good position to block a shot. Wow he looks afwul. All that talk about not just being a rim runner. He'd be lucky to be that moving forward.

Rudys / Cousins trade value plus bens consistency are the loan bright spots.

These guys have been alright... Temple has been a pretty hard working guy that's just limited talent wise. Lawson is a bench quality PG. Barnes has been overall ok...just can't play too many mins. Kufos has been ok, he is what he is.

More terrible is that Casspi looks out of shape. arron affalo is just avg and kinda getting abused defensively.

How often is the "poor boogie" song going to be played? I hate everything about the picture above. It is a total loser and victim mindset. All it needs it some birds dressed in gray shirts with whistles taking a crap on the top of his umbrella.

I mean it's true. The only "stars" we have on this team are Cousins and Gay. Everyone is either:
a) washed up
b) over the hill
or
c) young

If your team depends on Matt Barnes to be your 3rd best player.......then it must mean they're not very good.

2 years ago, Barnes' was the Clippers 7th best player....fast forward to now, this team is forcing a 36 yearold Barnes to be our 3rd best player?? (CP3, Grifin, Jordan, Reddick, Crawford, and Rivers...yes, 6 players ahead of him).

It's really pathetic. We just don't have enough star power. We don't have enough scoring talent. The Kings desperately need to get another elite scorer. It's really up in the air whether or not DC can be that player.

Collison can be the 3rd scoring option no problem. We are desperately missing his scoring. Aside from DMC and Rudy who else is gonna step up?

I don't know if it counts as "stepping up" but Ben McLemore has at least looked like an NBA player this season.

I am really hoping that's Bogdan, which doesnt help us this season.

We may well be in the Catch-22 zone of NBA where we cannot attract good enough talent onto this team to win, yet we need to win to attract talent.

Ben has been our 3rd most consistent scorer. He's been one of the many bright spots, but bright spots suck when the Kings aren't winning.

Yeah, I wish Bogdan would've came over this season. It sucks having to wait this long for him. We've only been waiting like 5 months, and it's tiring. Imagine how Suns fans felt after he said he wasn't coming over anytime soon lol.

I think Barnes+McLemore+Koufos have been really solid for us.
We really need someone like a McCollum, IT, or Kyrie. Of course, those guys don't grow on trees...but that's what this team is desperately missing. At this point, it wouldn't seem like such a bad idea to try to package a few of our pieces for someone like Brandon Knight and hope he can bounce back.

I think this has only been exacerbated the fact Afflalo has looked absolutely cooked since the start of the season.

What do you mean, "may"? We've been in that Catch-22 for a supermajority of the past thirty-two years.

For me this was game 1 of my loss of interest in the season. Unless something miraculous happens I'm guessing this season turns into another year of me having the games on as background noise while I waste my time doing other things.
I don't agree with this conclusion, but I totally understand where it's coming from.

The Kings franchise doesn't seem to understand how tenuous the Sacramento region's support of the Kings is.

This post is a perfect example of how quickly the casual Kings fan will abandon the torment it is to be a Kings fan. Most people are just not built to suffer through this painful of experience.

The Kings really don't have the time they think they do to become respectable and something that the average Sacramentan would feel proud of on the court.
Unfortunately, they ran out of time by pissing away the past 2 seasons.
And from the look of things on the court, they've run out of time to keep Demarcus here after this season, because this looks like yet another season of catatastrophic futility and unceasing frustration.

Last year Rondo, despite his flaws played like a top ten PG and Collison was the backup, even Curry chipped in. Rondo also made WCS look like the next coming of Tyson Chandler, now he looks like Mikki Moore. Basically we had a starting five where only SG was a gaping hole, this season aside from Cousins and Gay we have three non factors at the other position. This team just isnt very talented tbh.

That's not true, unless you are ignoring the 3 rookies drafted this year and another that will come next year from overseas. You can argue if those are blue chips or not, but the organization clearly had short term and long term goals over the offseason.
They are not game changers. Papa may never play. Our pick situation for the future is terrible. Our team is dysfunctional.our front office and owner are a laughing stock. U can argue the merits of it but it's true none the less. Plans don't accomplish anything if u don't have the means.

Why are you bringing facts into the conversation? ;-)

I'm a believer that Cousins can be top 5, and the least of the team's problems, but if this team is still not getting off the ground deals will have to be looked at this deadline. Looked at doesn't mean definitively trading him if value isn't there though

And yes, all energy has been seeped out of this team already

Joerger should not have been letting WCS get practice reps down the stretch of this game

Surprisingly if Vlade and co. do decide to blow it up there is still a path to at least building a roster of young talent. Trade Cousins and Gay for young players/picks. Finish in the lottery again and get a lotto talent(supposed to be a good draft, especially for PG's). Bogdonovic comes over next year too.

So you'll have
2017 lotto pick
Skal
WCS
Pappagiannis
Malachi
Bogdanovic
Mclemore
Players and picks you get for Cuz and Rudy.

Obviously too early, but if it starts spiraling or again looks like another season of mediocrity you have to think Vlade and co. will pull the trigger considering how open they left it this off season.

Some of you acting like this resembles past years much at all. The problem is at least definable and all the games winnable. This was the worst performance of the season against a team they should beat. However, problems seem to be running the offense and rebounding. Like I said a few days ago, that second big man spot hasn't solidified.

You grow into the offense, get some rebounding production and you turn a couple of these games into wins.

Fact nobody wants to play here w this ownership. Fact we don't draft high enough to get a true talent. Fact this will take years to change. Fact cuz will be gone by then

Value has to be there though for the trades
