Summary:
Gay ( A- ) -- this was a long way from the struggling Rudy who has been here at times this season. In this one he finished everything, got out on the break, took passes from Rondo and remained highly efficient throughout. In fact fro most of the game if you had tuned in knowing nothing about the Kings and tried to guess who was our star, you would have likely said Rudy. Now on the flipside our twin-SF frontline simply wasn't getting it done on the glass. Even Omri, who grabbed a respectable number, was getting outhustled and muscled by Trevor Booker, who is no bigger than either Gay or Omri, and Favors for o-reb after o-reb -- in fact for much of the night the best offense the Jazz had was to draw Cousins outisde, miss a shot and then let their bigs out muscle our forwards for o-rebs. But Omri at least grabbed 10 himself. Rudy? Rudy grabbed fewer total rebounds than either Booker or Favors did offensive rebounds.

Summary:
Casspi ( B+ ) -- our other starting SF has himself a strong game too. He wasn't mega-efficient like Rudy, but the bulk of his points actually came off of four 3pt plays -- 3 threes, and a +1 that he started his game off with. But he played a good floor game until several mistakes late in the game made when he was actually TOO unselfish, and passed up shots he should have taken, leading to rushed shots or turnovers by others. And of the two starting SFs he was the better guy on the glass, although there were notable stretches early, and then in the 3rd when he wasn't getting it done and Trevor Booker would be wading in and standing right shoulder to shoulder with both Omri and Rudy and yet winning every board battle. In fact in the late 3rd in a strange sequence that seemed like we weren't sure if we wanted Boogie to leave the game or stay in, we eventually finally resorted to pairing Boogie and Kosta together on the glass to finally get control of things. It wasn't a perfect game in any aspect, but it was strong across the board play, and with his threes he did what you have to do as a counter when you're a smallball PF.

Summary:
Cousins ( B ) -- the big guy put up about as quiet a 23-12-6 game as you are going to find. After the terrible trip, really wasn't forcing things at all, and indeed may still have not exactly felt up to dominating. But he wasn't settling. I saw somebody complaining about how much time he spent outside, but actually this was about as close to inside Boogie as we have seen under Karl this year. There were several more threes of course, but mostly he was judicious about the outside stuff, and we gave him a number of postups, from which we largely got good things to happen. but there was no push to dominate with it, and for most of the game he just lied back, contained Favors, and was a solid presence in the middle without ever being the most important guy on the floor. When the Jazz came to double, he was a willing passer racking up assists out of the post. While the additional passing did bring a return of the turnovers, most of those were in the open court or from up top trying to create too much. Late in the game helped us seal it with maybe the first sustained burst of interior attacking dominance of the game. But as I said, for the most part this was a ho hum, quiet take it for granted 23-12-6 rather than a truly dominant one.

Summary:
McLemore ( B- ) -- played well enough that his eventual banishment to the bench while the other starters continued on for big minutes seemed odd, although I think the answer may be on the defensive end of the floor, where Ben's stubborn refusal to keep contact with his men aided a 35pt night by the Jazz SGs. But before his disappearance in favor of a largely ineffectual Collison, Ben had some good moments in the early game on the offensive side of the ball. He started the game off hitting a buzzer beating 3 to save a possession Added several layups and a good rebound, and hit another three in the early 2nd. But he got quiet thereafter, I don't think ever scored again, and while it may not have quite been the normal Ben disappearing act, Burks and Hood won the battle in a big way form that point on, and Karl began experimenting with the other rotation options.

Summary:
Rondo ( A- ) -- let Neto blow right by him several times early in the game, which just shouldn't happen. But was playing his normal game directing the offense, and this time out was both hitting his threes as well as occasionally squirting on through to the rim (easier with no Gobert). He also came up with a few more great hustle plays, including a great steal at the the end of the half to get us one extra shot. There was some slop, in the 3rd in particular, that helped keep the Jazz in it, but more moments of brilliance, including the Sportcenter friendly around the back dribble and dish to Gay in the open court in the mid 3rd. At the end of that quarter showed the headiness again coming up with a well timed +1 to push the lead back to 10 and slow a Jazz run as we had started to struggle. And down the stretch of this thing even hit FTs.
