Man... ten fouls in seven games? I watch all of the Pelicans games, and I didn't even notice that.
if memory serves (and it might not), isn't that the kind of travel the officials suddenly started calling on C-Webb in the playoffs after Mark Cuban sent a tape to the NBA?
You've got to let the call go man. Bad calls happen.i'm still pissed
"fun" little stat on Boogie v. the refs that I encountered today:
Boogie's fouls by game:
Gm1: 5
Gm2: 5
Gm3: 4
Gm4: 3
Gm5: 6
Gm6: 6
Gm7: 5
Gm8: 5
Gm9: 5
-------------
44 in 9 gms = 4.9/gm = pace for 401 fouls if he played 82 games.
The all time NBA record for fouls is Daryl Dawkins with 386 in 81gms. And nobody else is even close. If it feels like there is a blizzard of whistles against Cousins, its because there is. In fact the refs have never kept up a pace like this for a full season against any player in NBA history. You want to protest something we can actually win? Protest that. Plaster it around. Make it a thing and a point of embarrassment.
Short version:Why is it always the referees fault with you and Boogie? Are they all really out to get him?

I don't know how to say this. I just felt like JT is important to this team only for physical-defense against other teams' bigs. Through these years that is the only thing that JT is decent which is quite a very good specialty. Yes, he was needed most of the time, but not on this last 0.3 seconds of the game.Thompson played twenty-seven minutes last night and, for about twenty-four of them, he played quite well. When Thompson started the game, and was helping to hold down Gasol and Randolph, everybody was cool. When Memphis started to make their first run in the second quarter, and Thompson was on the bench, there was a lot of "Why is Thompson still on the bench?", "Get JT back in," and the like. When Thompson came back in the third, and help us get back out to a good lead, everybody was still cool. But then, Thompson made a dumbass decision, that enabled Courtney Lee to score the game-winner, and now it's all "GWAOAR~! **** JT!", "I hate that guy!", "HE'S THE WORST PLAYER IN THE UNIVERSE!", "NO, IN THE MULTIVERSE!", and other similar such wailing and gnashing of teeth.
But hey, McLemore appears to have played himself out of his slump, so I guess somebody has to be the goat.

To me, it was Malone's fault letting JT play in that squad to prevent that split-second shot. We didn't need the physical-defense of JT. And Malone should have known that JT has a very low basketball IQ he has the tendency to mess-up such an easy defensive play.
We could have used Landry who has a gazillion times higher basketball IQ than JT.Remember he was there to guard Gasol. It was simply a size issue -- Malone didn't want Gasol to be able to wade in there and tip something over a smaller defender. We were already using Hollins on the sideline guy, Cuz had Randolph. So last big guy was JT.
Except, if the inbounds goes to Gasol instead of Lee, there's ****-all Landry could have done to stop him from getting a tip-in, or even a layup. We could have used Landry who has a gazillion times higher basketball IQ than JT.

24 hours later and all I can say is that was the dumbest last play of a game I've ever seen. Just unforgivable. I don't know if it's the players or the coach, but there's no way that should have happened.
That game was just so simple to win, despite blowing another monster lead. And they let literally the only thing that could beat them happen.
It's inexcusable and unfathomable that they allowed someone to have a free run to the rim. I just wonder if someone said "don't switch" before the play, whether it was a coach or player
Maybe if there's like more than enough time for Gasol to exploit Landry. But at 0.3 second? I don't think so.Except, if the inbounds goes to Gasol instead of Lee, there's ****-all Landry could have done to stop him from getting a tip-in, or even a layup.
That seems like it's getting undersold. Landry may have "a gazillion times higher basketball IQ" than Thompson, but Gasol has a gazillion times higher basketball IQ than Landry. You're telling me Gasol wouldn't have exploited being guarded by a player seven inches shorter, in a one-point game by going hard to the rim instead? Yeah, right.
I forgot Landry fouled out. But if he did not, he can't possibly be annihilated with 0.3 seconds left. That is just 0.3 seconds and I am pretty sure Landry can jump high enough and smart enough to time and alter any possible tip-in shot by a ground-bound Gasol.and is like half a foot shorter. No, Landry got annihilated out there because of his size. So annihilated actually that he fouled out about 8 minutes before that final play.![]()
No, he can't. Landry couldn't jump high enough to alter a tip-in from Marc Gasol, even if Gasol were standing flat-footed.I forgot Landry fouled out. it doesn't even matter, the whole team should have just been packing the paint, they shouldn't have been playing man in the first place.
Either: Malone didn't tell them to do that, or Malone did tell them and they ignored it. Either scenario is a really not a good look for our team
Malone probably instructed the players, but he forgot JT won't be able to follow the instructions, or in this case modify what he was instructed to do when necessary. Simple switching confuses JT and he cannot read simple plays. And if he read the play almost always it will be too late for him to react.it doesn't even matter, the whole team should have just been packing the paint, they shouldn't have been playing man in the first place.

This could have been the best defensive play that Malone should have called.I know Hollins probably grazed the inbounds pass, but I would have rather had nobody on the inbounds passer...and instead an extra player at the rim
There should have been 4 guys at minimum just standing at the rim. There wasnt, either the coach screwed up bigtime, or the players ignored him
You know you are exaggerating. No, he can't. Landry couldn't jump high enough to alter a tip-in from Marc Gasol, even if Gasol were standing flat-footed.
I know Gasol's hand won't touch the rim when his arms are fully extended and he is ground-bound. And I also know Landry can dunk the ball with BOTH hands with ease. And remember, one jump is all it takes to alter or prevent that very difficult to execute tip-in shot.Have you ever seen Gasol with his arms fully extended? You really think that Landry can jump that high?
They might be. At least some of them. I can easily construct scenarios. I again am reminded of Donaghy's claims, not the self serving ones, but the cultural claims of things like little side bets amongst the refs about who could bait Sheed in a particular game, or a decision to punish A.I. for criticizing a fellow ref. Cuz would be an ideal target if that sort of petty stuff were at all true. Oh you want to **** with US do you. I'll show you who's in charge!
On a simpler level, we suck. We've been just about the worst franchise in the NBA. No success, until just recently no clout to complain about anything., Young coach, young GM. New owner maybe, but he's an outsider. Shaq is semi-attached, but he's only parttime attached and a bit of a doof. The media made it a cool meme to hate on Cuz. He was virtually without effective defenders. Now the worm is starting to turn, but old grudges die hard and the longstanding claim about NBA refs is that they play favorites and that you have to "earn their respect" before they give you the benefit of the doubt.
And on the simplest level of all, I threw out the numbers for all to ponder. I have three decades of NBA watching behind me. I have a great deal of longterm perspective because of it. And anybody who tells me that this DeMarcus Cousins is by far and away the biggest hack in the history of the NBA is just flat ignorant. He's not even the biggest hack amongst the DeMarcus Cousinses we've seen over the past 5 years and yet now he's being called for far more fouls. Would these refs really have been throwing out Ewing or Mourning by halftime of each game? I doubt they'd have the balls, and if they did it would only be for one game because Riley would have castrated them.
The part that pisses me off is that he has come SO far. He is flat smart defender now. He looks like Joakim Noah out there cutting off angles, stepping into lanes, recovering. When he's in foul trouble he noticeable and obviously throws his hands up to keep from getting cheap calls. And yet there have been half a dozen calls against him this year that were just flat bad. Terrible. Several of them that could, or in fact did, turn games against us. There have been at least that many that looked questionable at the very least, but I did not have the camera angle to be sure. That's more bad or shaky fouls called against one player than Anthony Davis has been called on total for the whole year.
Cuz is a physical player, he's got quick hands, he takes charges, he plays in the post, he will always accumulate fouls. And if he was averaging 3.5 a game, or even 4 a game in 36 minutes a game or some such, you go, well, he's got to cut back. There would have been a few games where he was in foul trouble. Would have sucked. But not this. This has basically been EVERY SINGLE NIGHT. This for a player who has been talked about as MVP caliber. And EVERY SINGLE NIGHT the refs are taking him out of the game. And early too. They won't even let him play for a quarter at a time. That's unheard of. The story of this season for Cuz, and for us, is the referees. Nothing else. So yes, you are darned tootin' I'm going to shine a light on it.
Do you have a time-machine, because Carl can't dunk with ease for a few years now?I know Gasol's hand won't touch the rim when his arms are fully extended and he is ground-bound. And I also know Landry can dunk the ball with BOTH hands with ease. And remember, one jump is all it takes to alter or prevent that very difficult to execute tip-in shot.
Thanks for the tidbits about Donaghy's claims from his book - that's really informative.I again am reminded of Donaghy's claims, not the self serving ones, but the cultural claims of things like little side bets amongst the refs about who could bait Sheed in a particular game, or a decision to punish A.I. for criticizing a fellow ref.
