Say what you will. I have no beef with IT, and I'm trying to be as objective as possible. But I certainly don't understand how I'm not allowed to be critical of IT's defense when he got peeled off of his man by a simple screen basically every single possession.
In fact, because I felt you were likely to complain about my analysis of IT's defense again (after you did so for the Grizz game as well) I kept my notes instead of deleting them. Here are my notes on IT's defense for the night:
Walker beats IT on a screen, misses in lane.
Switched onto MKG via screen, fouled MKG on drive
Never picked up Walker on oreb, leaving him for wide 3, missed.
Walker to hoop on screen for 2.
Screened again, led to pass for dunk.
ANOTHER screen.
Sessions full length of floor for layup. (This wasn't a break, IT just never stopped the ball)
Broke up pass for steal.
Terrible D on screen allowed Sessions to get to get an easy bucket
Fouled Walker for and-1.
Screened off Walker again.
Allowed easy 3 for Walker, missed.
Got back on D on break, resulted in walk.
Walker got by him again, passed out for nada.
Walker beats him for 2.
Did not box out Walker, allowed oreb.
Walker no problem on break. (IT was back for D on this break and didn't effectively contest)
Forced Gordon into a tough turnaround, missed.
Walker had 2.9 and almost got one to go. (This is at the end of the third when Walker got way too good of a shot)
Fouls Sessions
Forced Henderson to miss in post.
Walker gets around him again.
Contested Walker's air 3 to tie with 2.9 left
Now that's not everything, because I didn't want to pause the game every time he got screened off to write this stuff down, but I felt compelled to write it pretty often. When I look at that list I see 5 good defensive plays (6 if you count the foul against MKG which did not result in free throws). And I see 18 times that I wrote down that he didn't do a good job on D. If you get that many screens set on you, you HAVE to find a way to not get beat on them. Otherwise you've got a PG with the ball open and allowed to do anything he wants.
So there's your "farce" of a defensive analysis from someone who "didn't watch the game". Oh, I was wrong on one point, though - IT effectively contested 3 of the 17 shots taken against him, not 2. I forgot to count the miss that he forced on Henderson in the post (where, remarkably, he seems to be a better defender than up top).
Hey Capt., thanks for posting your notes. I never note these specific acts, but they don't go unnoticed. IT had a good game, but not a great game. I think your notes do a good job of outlining exactly why, so thanks for being detailed enough to make a post like this.
