The lack of offensive talent means when we look bad we look REALLY bad. As we did tonight. The Blazers were absolutely bound and determined not to let Cuz beat them again, and they didn't. Two guys, three, four, whatever it took. They didn't care about the rest of the scrubs, because...scrubs. As a scrub, you are supposed to resent that, say "I'll show em!" and knock down the open shots caused by all the attention on your star. Instead our scrubs embraced scrubhood in its fullest, and we absolutely could not shoot or score to save our lives. Against the worst defensive team in the league mind you.

Barnes ( C ) -- feel like I'm being kind giving him a C here. Sloppy and lax in his worst ways, another guy who didn't hit hist open shots, and made bonehead defensive mistakes too. And yet might have been one of Cuz's BETTER teammates tonight, and one of only two to score in double figures.

Cousins ( B ) -- the numbers are a little deceptive here as he put up a number of them while the game was barely breathing. On the other hand, its amazing he got anything at all with the Blaers absolutely 100% determined he would not beat them -- sometimes there were literally four guys. And with no teammates stepping up to hit open shots (he should have had 10 assists easily), he was smothered all night.

Koufos ( B- ) -- probably should have played more given the utter incompetence of everybody else. At least banged the boards, which meant he was doing one more thing than most of the team were.

Featured Grade
McLemore ( D ) -- Went 2-9 and didn't have a single rebound or assist in nearly 20 minutes. The box score pretty much tells the story. Ben was a non-factor and rightfully lost most of the SG minutes to GT. Early on he had some decent looks, especially on a open midrange J off a Koufos pick. Also missed a desperation jumper as the shot clock wound down. His only basket of the first Q came on a nice cut and curl for a tough layup. He'd later run out for an easy dunk and-one on a dumb late foul by Plumlee. Played decent positional defense but in Ben fashion lost track of his man a few times. Didn't really do anything in the second half and was blocked on a jumper by Crabbe. McLemore was a microcosm of this Kings team on the night of a bad loss. Just a bit out of place and unable to get shots to fall.--Funky

Collison ( D ) -- looking for a positive here...not as bad as Ben? Does that actually rate as a positive? gets the little grade he does for some briefly solid minutes in the second half off the bench -- because you see he was so pathetic in the first half he got benched for the second. I have no idea what the hell has happened here, but we are off trying to bumble and stumble into a playoff push, and arguably our #3 scorer, and #2 with Gay out, is playing like a complete passionless scrub.

-------------------------------------------------------------------

Tolliver ( F ) -- no. He can't board. He can"t do anything inside. We tried playing him at SF and he got worked over by one. His one job is to hit a damn open shot. And he bricked them and bricked them and bricked them in soul-crushing fashion. Just...no.

Lawson ( D+ ) -- brought the feisty, the attempt at energy, but the titanic talent sap dangling over our bench drained away whatever pathetic little bit of shooting he might normally have to. And so once again, Cuz gets ball, three guys shift, Cuz swings ball, and the little guys tried to break windows. And there was nobody to assist.

Cauley-Stein ( D ) -- lost his purchase on minutes this game when he uber-wussied it and cowered sniveling under the hoop as Vonleh strolled right into the middle of the lane to pick up a rebound that led to a Blazer three. There's nothing respectable or acceptable about that, and he was immediately benched. Good.

Temple ( B- ) -- the one guy, who for a half, made some effort to pick up for the offensive slack as the Blazers dogpiled on Cuz. But he wasn't shooting well either, missed several wide open loos, and would just hustle enough to get them back and try in closer. Mysteriously underutilized on defense, and the offense dried up after half.

Casspi ( C ) -- well, he actually hit the few shots he was taking, and in the first half he grabbed some boards. That's enough to separate himself form the worst of the worst tonight, if not to actually have much impact.

I really could've used some Rudy Gay iso tonight. That's blasphemy against the magical panacea of ball movement, but this isn't a offensive force around DMC we've got going here. Nights like this will happen.

Doesn't help that our third best offensive player has decided to take a dump all over himself lately.

Wait. What??????? Aside from the obvious error in the stat line, I have another problem.

I think Ben deserves, at best, an F+.

Looks like we really missed Gay tonight. It's more important that the rest of the team have a good game than Cuz. It wasn't tonight.

There's no translation here in Israel... So, was Omri doing something wrong to get only 14 minutes (with Gay not playing) or is here just the coach bromance with Matt?

We need open shots to drop to win. We desperately need a playmaker outside of Cousins. Lebron had Wade and Bosh, and only won 2 titles. Point as im saying either Rudy needs to step up or we need to trade him for some risks. Sure surrounding Cousins with 3&D players is a solid tactic but we need someone to do some ballhandling that is effective to pair. Maybe we should just start Temple, put the ball in his hands more? Lose Lawson though. I really was not expecting Collison to struggle so heavily and it has impacted the lineups.

I really want Ben to do well, but he looked BAD again.
It wasn't like he was making bad decisions, he just looked like a lost rookie, half a step behind.

The final straw for me tonight was when I watched him finally move without the ball, only to see him tuck himself behind two defenders... At that point, I just realized he has the BBIQ of a carrot. :(

It almost looks like he was scared to get the ball. He would have these possessions where he'd dribble in place for a bit then pass it off ( maybe for the better), including the ugly unforced turnover.

It seemed like he wasn't getting a chance early in the season when he looked good, now he's looked bad but keeps getting his opportunities.

Would like to see the best lineup on the roster start for a change Lawson,Temple, Rudy, Toliver, Cuz. Lawson creates, Temple and Toliver space and Rudy/Cuz go to work. That puts Kofus Collison Afflalo and Casspi/Barnes together with either Rudy or Cuz staggered.

The only problem is by starting Lawson and Cuz together you dont leave any playmakers on the bench which would get ugly. Also stretching Lawsons minutes might start to limit his effectiveness.

If we have a lead then WCS or anyone but Ben gets time.

Having watched Ben these few years get all these minutes and still look the same I can safely say he is a certified bust. No other team can fix him. He is an NBA athlete but definitely not an NBA player.

I just want Collison gone at this point hes back to the scrub ways that got him cut in Indy and Dallas. If his cheap drives are cut off he provides nothing else. We really would be better off with a Tim Fraizer, Shabazz Napier type guy at this point, theres plenty of bargain guards out their for us to pick up.

Vlade just get us a guy who can dribble a basketball and shoot, just one, thats all I ask of you. :(

I hate to have to point out the obvious but -

in a league dominated by guards, with the refs and rules giving all the advantages to the guards....

...this Kings team will not make the playoffs with their guards playing this badly.

This is an absolute truth. The example last night was a Blazers guard gets tapped on the elbow and he would shoot free throws. Boogie gets hammered on the arm.....play on Big Guy.......RIDICULOUS......Except for Meyers Leonard, Refs had him shoot 3 free throws in 4/10's of a second.

Problem is all the teams know the importance of Guards who can break down defenses and shoot at a good percentage.

Tonight was the first night I really lost my cool with Ben.

Horrible officiating all night which doesn't seem to be mentioned much, but we had plenty of opportunities to get back in the game. Nobody could make anything, it was almost comical.

I'm over Collison and McLemore.

For as fast as Jerry always touts Collison, he sure can't beat anybody off the dribble. I feel like Collison beats his man about once a game. He's half the reason why we end up taking emergency shots at the end of the shot clock. Dribble, dribble, dribble....brick.

He's absolutely done as a starter. Had a run for a couple years there but it's over with now.

Players I want banished from the Kingdom:

Ben "I am ALWAYS afraid" Mclemore

Rudy "How bout a fade away" Gay

Willie "Assume the fetal position" Cauley-Stein

Afflalo can go as well but I don't think we can get rid of all our junk so soon.
I agree in so much as they all need a good shaming and spanking, but Ben is the only one that consistently hurts us. So I'm good with giving him to the wolves (and I don't mean the Timberwolves ).

Glad to see the Tolliver F Brick.

That guy was getting beat or falling asleep way too much. Bad lateral movement I can take, but not the way he got beat a few times.

Joerger gets an F too.

That substitution where he took Temple out while on defense in the last minute of the first half and put Lawson back in and Portland goes bomb city was dumbfounding. I mean if we had the ball I could of rationalized it perhaps but we were on defense.

Also when Cousins went out with his 4th, I was screaming coach we can't score the ball with this lineup, that was the time to go small and run with Collison & Lawson. Way out coached last night. Stotts was probably infuriated himself from the last game and really worked on a way to minimize Cousins really well.

Should be interesting the next time the teams play.

I expect Joerger to make some adjustments.

It's unbelievable how inept McLemore is. Like it's a whole different level of inept than someone like Stauskas or Sessions. The guy's passing is truly the worst thing I've ever seen at any level of basketball. He uses his right hand to pass from any and every angle. Left corner with someone at the top of the arc? Uses his right hand and pushes it out to them. Left corner with someone at the top of the arc? Pivots and pushes the ball to them with his right hand. It's honestly the most basic basketball skill there is to chest/overhead pass in these situations. It's stuff you stop seeing after recess in 4th grade.

WCS is lucky to have him as a teammate to take some of the spotlight off of his ineptness.

I really don't see how Malachi isn't getting any minutes at this point. If Malachi can make basic chest passes and has sub-par handles, he's an immense upgrade over Ben.

I'm over Collison and McLemore.

Ben is what he is. He's an elite run/jump athlete with textbook form on his jumper who just isn't good at basketball and lack s then mentality to make any real strides.

But I don't get how Collison's game has eroded and why he's playing so poorly in a contract year.

In terms of building a foundation for the next couple years it's tough that Gay, Collison, Lawson, McLemore and Casspi are free agents. But one benefit it SHOULD have (along with Tolliver & Afflalo not being guaranteed for next season) is that they should be playing for a huge payday and yet they are having average to poor years so far.
