News 10 just said Gary Payton told Boston Globe that he expects to be traded in next few weeks to either Sacramento or Minnisota.

I looked all over Boston Globe site found nothing

maybe it will show up tomorrow

I know its been pounded to death in an older thread
but thought it would bear mentioning

Did find something in Boston site

Payton headed for parts unknown

Last Tuesday night in Charlotte, before the Celtics beat the Bobcats, Gary Payton was contemplating his soon-to-be-over life as a Celtic, saying, "Two more weeks? Three more weeks?"

He knows. Everyone knows. What he doesn't know yet is where he's going to end up. Payton thinks Minnesota and Sacramento are possible destinations. Asked about that, one general manager said, "Minnesota is desperate to make a deal." But would the Timberwolves be desperate enough to take on Payton, who is in the last year of his contract?

Yeah, that popped up in the older thread (his statement).

Older thread was not idle speculation -- there's a real chance but contract issues make it tough. Not sure exactly what Minny would do with him unless the idea is to trade him for Hudson or some such. Otherwise he's a 4th PG for them, and they seem to have sold themselves to the devil ala the Blazers. One bad character after another until some sort of critical mass is reached.

I'm assuming if Payton comes to Sacramento, he'd be a backup right ?

I would certainly hope so.

I would think replacement Bobby (6th man), except more passing oriented at this point. But quite frankly he's no longer as good as ANY of our starters.

i just hope that they dont give up a big guy like songolia. i think songolia plays perfect D and he plays hard every minute. I wonder if they could be working on a trade involving payton and pierce for bobby and peja or something. Personally i think pierce is overrated i could put on celtics uniform and score 20pts if i got the ball every time.

Salaries don't match up. We'd have to include Miller as well. Or, a combination of something like Ostertag, Songaila, and Martin. I wouldn't worry about it, Petrie's not stupid.

As tempting as this could be I hope the Kings stay put this season. The past few games have given me real hope about what a healthy roster could do. I would not mind bobby for payton but don't feel giving up dsong or ostertag would be smart. Pierce to me at this moment is blah.. I want to give peja another chance in the playoffs to show up.

Just heard this today. If that's currently the case, and knowing that it seems as if the Twolves are really desperate for GP, I see little reason for the Celtics to trade up with Sac. Twolves will offer Hudson as bait, he's been moaning about his contract/minutes all season, and GP being closer to home moving from Boston to Minny might persuade him to ink a contract with the Twolves, further motivating Minnesota to deal for him. Plus Hudson's contract is locked in for another couple years, giving the Celtics the starting security vet at PG to develop Delonte West.

I don't understand where GP would fit into the Kings plans...I just don't see a guy like that taking a roll coming off the bench...he's still starter material for a host of teams in the NBA, but certainly not this team. And, I don't see that he really improves the team too much in many areas (other than stability at the backup guard spot), at least not the areas that *I think* should be of real concern to the Kings: rebounding and shotblocking.

The ONLY fit is a backup to Bibby/Mobley. Evans is a lot of potential but as does Martin. However, counting on Evans, Martin and House to play extended minutes for any length of time is not good. They simply don't have the experience and that is reflected in the mistakes they make at certain times.

Chemistry and personality issues aside I would LOVE to have Payton backing up Bibby or taking some minutes at the two guard.

Minnesota makes less sense. They have Hudson, Cassell and Anthony. Unless they are dumping a contract to get Payton I don't see that happening.

That would be logical, wouldn't it, but this is Danny Ainge we are talking about.

I assume Petrie would never do something like that. Imagine us losing those three guys just to get GP.....

Who really thinks that Payton's comments mean anything? He is always flapping his jaws. I just can't believe that Petrie would bring on a guy like Payton. He is not needed, I don't think he is very good anymore, and he would seem to have a contrary personality. Such a trade would be out of character for Petrie and Adelman.

Yeah, it would be a weird trade. What happens when bobby comes back? I think I would rather have bobby back up bibby, but I don't think GP would like that, and we would still need to get him minutes somehow, because if you have GP you need to use him

Imagine him ending back up with Lakers (although he might be still a bit miffed) ..... They need a point guard more than anyone in the West.

if Minny trades for GP they are absolutely crazy...i mean first off like Sam whose is like 34/35 and completely all banged up...then they got Troy Hudson...who i feel is a great backup PG AND THEN they have Anthony Carter....they have 3 PGs now im imagining like two of them gone if they get GP...but come Minny...i thought Kevin McKahle was smarter than that...what they really need is a dominant center...a power rebounder...they are suffering on the boards...KG can't do it alone...he needs help...and although i like Eddie Griffin as a player...i dunno if he is gonna cut it

as for Sacto...if we were to pull of this trade...first off a think its a little hyprocratical (<--is that a word?) cuz they traded away DC for fresher younger legs (being one of the reasons) so why would you turn around and get a GP...i mean if they did get him i would assume it would be more for the NOW and not the future....BUT all that being sad if GP were to come to Sacto i would welcome him with open arms...cuz thats what we do as Sacramento Kings fans

GP is done for. He didnt do crap last year with the Lakers. He whined more than he scored. Derek Fisher gave a much better performance than the so-called "Glove". Off to Minny he goes. We dont want him in Sac.
