Georgie to speak at BoG and other news, rumors, etc

I hope George speaks to the BOG. Could only help our cause.

I hope George speaks to the BOG. Could only help our cause.

What can he possibly say?

"Look at the facts. Did we deliberately tell Sacramento bidders that our team was not for sale when in fact it was? YES. Did we renege on our obligation to inform our minority partners of the deal reached with Seattle to prevent them from possibly exercising their ROFR? YES. Did we include provisions in the contract with Seattle (such as the $30M "non-refundable" deposit) that make it hard for a Sacramento group to match the offer and open up avenues for lawsuits against the NBA if the deal is not approved? YES. Have we begun subtly hinting to the media that perhaps we will not sell the team at all if the Seattle offer is turned down by the league? YES. WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE?!? ARE YOU ****ING BLIND OR SOMETHING?!? KEVIN JOHNSON SCREWED US BY NOT ALLOWING US TO MOVE OUR TEAM TO ANAHEIM WHERE IT WOULD HAVE BEEN WORTH $100M MORE THAN IT IS NOW IN THE INFLATED HANSEN OFFER AND WE'RE GOING TO SCREW HIM BACK BY MAKING SURE THAT THE NBA LEAVES SACRAMENTO FOREVER!!! AND THERE'S NOTHING YOU PEONS IN THE NBA CAN DO ABOUT IT! I AM GEORGE MALOOF!!! I AM A DEVELOPER!!! I HAVE SPOKEN!!!"

Gee, I think that'd be pretty great for us, no?

And then the stunned silence as George realizes he's gone off the deep end and slinks out of the room in shame. It's the only appropriate way for this sad story to end. Would that real life could be so poetic.

Hillarious, but you forgot..."Trust me, I'm a developer."

Would not be suprised if that's how it went down.

Man, I would love to be a fly on the wall in that room.

Would love to see GM get a comeuppance, too. If the world were actually fair it would happen.

From Twitter:

Joe, Gavin & George Maloof will all be in New York for presentations Wednesday to NBA.

And more...

Mike Barnbaum ‏@SportsTransit 2h

I have read on @twitter that George Maloof will be in NYC attending Wednesday's NBA Meeting. Does anybody besides me think it will get ugly?

Mike Barnbaum ‏@SportsTransit 2h

.@McCannSportsLaw If George Maloof on Wednesday, were to pull off antitrust lawsuit against Sacramento in NYC, couldn't Stern invoke (cont.)

Mike Barnbaum ‏@SportsTransit 2h

.@McCannSportsLaw (cont.) The "best interest in the league" clause? I've been told that NBA can't force sale. To me, they may want to here.

George Maloof and his brothers may just become the most hated figures in Sacramento history. I have the utmost faith in KJ and his group, but I also cannot help but be apprehensive about what the Maloofs might try to do. A part of me wishes I could fall asleep and wake up when it's all over one way or the other...

This is streamed, right? I hope so. Would love nothing more than seeing George lose it at the BOG meeting right before the team is sold to our billionaire quartet. George going down in flames would be a pleasure to my eyes.

I am definitely feeling this way.

I sure hope so. This whole thing has been planned to perfection; I have no idea what it night be, but I wouldn't be surprised at all to see KJ pull another rabbit out of his hat during the presentation, something that will totally swing the votes in our favor...and drive George over the edge once and for all as a bonus.

Is there a chance it's public? I figured this would be a private meeting for sure.

I would hope the presentations by Seattle and Sacramento are public. The committee meeting itself would need to be private, I would think.

We're getting close here. As great as it would be for the maloofs to shoot themselves in the foot im sure they have their own strategy and game plan ready. Im sure ours is greater. In KJ i trust

Well, I'm sure KJ is more sure-footed than the Maloofs. Altho not hated among the other owners, I can't imagine the Maloofs are terribly popular, either.

Edit: Changed my signature and avatar for good luck. :)

I'm hoping with the Maloofs there, it is all the more likely that meeting content will leak immediately after it is over... may even get clues from the Maloof body language. I've been assuming all along the whole thing would be behind closed doors. If some or all is public, I'm clearing my work calendar.

Brian May just answered my tweet: Not open to the press - no streaming. Press will get updates after sessions.

I figured this was the case - same as last time if I recall correctly.

So what the hell is he going to say to the BOG? He's going to make a case why they should vote to move the team to Seattle? If so, he's even more evil that I originally thought. Why would he care? They are selling the team and will be out of the NBA soon whether they end up staying or leaving. They should just want to get the most money possible, which is understandable. Even a remotely shell of a decent human being would want the highest bid to come out of the Sac group so that the team can stay in Sac. Why would he want to crush a city so badly? We did nothing to him except line his pockets with cash when they actually had a decent product on the floor.

It will be very interesting to find out why he's there and what he's pushing to the BOG. I'm starting to see that it's very important to the Maloofs' ego and pure evilness to do what they can to get the team out of Sacramento.

So far there's been no indication that George (or any of the Maloofs) are going to actually speak. But of course they'd be there. One way or another the franchise they currently own is going to be sold, I'd be shocked if they weren't there.

I'm still thinking that part of the closed book deal with Hansen involves the Maloofs retaining some small stake or otherwise having some role with the team if they move to Seattle. Outside of simple vindictiveness (or some off the books extra cash thrown their way) I can't think of any other motivation for the Maloofs to prefer Seattle to Sacramento. Because clearly, they could attend Sonics games without issue. On the other hand, if they were ever seen again at a Kings game? I don't think that would be a good experience for them.

It might be to basically bash Sacramento as an NBA market and bring all their financial papers to show that they had been losing money ect ect. We all know they had been sabotaging this for years and that KJ came up with more sponsorship money in three days then they could in three years so I am not sure how solid of an argument it would be, but never the less, I am almost certain that's why they are there. They are there on behalf of Balmer/Hansen to show how crappy the market is in Sacramento.

Nobody wants them to speak. OTOH, Stern would sure like to sit them down and tell them they are going to accept Sacramento as a backup offer before listening to the bids. The NBA will be boxing them into a corner so that they have to sell. They will have it all laid out nicely on why it's in their best interest to accept a backup offer.

The boys are on a no return path here and have no control to Maloof their way out.

Georgie is going to show up flanked by anti-trust layers, puff his chest and tell the BoG that they best approve the move to Seattle and that if they don't, they can't tell him what he can or cannot do with the team. He's a developer and he's got "friends"....

Which is great because he's just going to shoot himself in the foot and help our cause... GO GEORGIE!!!! YOU TELL THEM!!!!!

Considering the track record of Maloofian strategy, I dont think we have much to worry about.

I don't think it really has anything to do with that. I assume they are just there to give the financial information regarding how they lost money in the Sacramento area. Seattle's really only angle is to state how much better their market is than the Sacramento market so I would assume they need the Maloofs there to give their take on the whole issue.

But I do hope Georgie starts talking because he always seems to put his foot in his mouth when he does. I can't see it being any more than the financials though.

Heck, they might even ask him if, hypothetically, they turn down the move to Seattle if they will sell to Sacramento. I'd love to hear the answer to that one. Or why they didn't try to sell to Burkle or Sacramento first given the willingness to match the price. Or why they thought the last deal was worth rejecting if Burkle and Co. readily accept this one which is much more favorable to the City.

Maloof Q&A start....... NOW! :p

That should get shut down fairly easily, as it's easy to show that the Clowns sabotaged this market. KJ was able to come up with $10M in sponsorships in less than a week. The NBA had to step in and help with marketing. Not to mention that there are FOUR BILLIONAIRES eager to jump in, saying that this is a great market and putting their money where their mouth is.
