George To Mavs (merged)

Devean George is very close to signing for the LLE. Or maybe even less depending on how it structures out! But, we pay Salmons nearly the entire MLE. Both are in the same "talent" area. *sigh*

George on the way: The Mavericks are working on details of a contract that will lock up former Los Angeles Laker Devean George.

The 6-8, free-agent forward was a vital part of the Lakers' championship teams with Shaquille O'Neal and Kobe Bryant. That experience is what has the Mavericks excited about the possibility of landing him with a veteran's minimum contract, about $1.2 million, guaranteed.

The Mavericks on Monday finalized the trade that brings backup point guard Anthony Johnson to the team for Darrell Armstrong, Josh Powell and Rawle Marshall. Even if Powell and Marshall are waived by the Pacers, they will not be returning to Dallas, apparently.

The Mavericks, according to Johnson, believe that a veteran with NBA Finals experience will better serve them at this point than young projects. George would fit that billing.

Wow, that's a good deal for them if they get him that cheap.

Sounds like that's not even the LLE -- that's the vet's minimum (lowest you can pay).

Salmons is better than Devean George. He may not be worth $25 million, but he's better than Geroge.

Different players. But, George would be a nice fit for the Mavs. Be that hustling team-player foward off the bench, and can play PF when going small.

Salmons is more versatile I think...but if better, not by very much.

George gets a lot of crap from being a Laker...but the guy isn't half bad as a role player.

Both guys are solid bench players.

Mavs are getting a solid steal. And...well...*keeps mouth shut*

The Mavs are a lot more dangerous than before and with this signing, they have arguably one of the best benches in the league, if not the best.

please, George is just doing what he can to go for a ring.

It's not like he doesn't have any...he does have 3. I don't think the Lakers want to pay him what he thinks he's worth..I think he was a bit overpaid on his last contract. Another team will probably give him more $.

Beating Dallas will become that much more satisfying.

That is to say if we can.

I agree though, Samaki Walker even was more valuable to the Lakers in a particular series by far than George...

maybe he wants to be another horry. personally i dont give a ****.

Oh yes, he'll help the Mavs. A ring is coming in '07. Believe it.

i wouldn't be so sure of it. if nowitzki goes down w/ a significant injury. their hopes of a championship goes w/ it. everybody thought dallas had it in the bag after 2 wins against the heat. i knew miami would step up and win at least 2 games. who knew they would've taken the whole thing the way they played the first 2 games?

That's because they simply choked. A little expirience under their belt now. And Terry just signed a 6 year deal.

Aside from injury, Dirk can just be slown down. As the Heat, specifically Haslem/Posey/Mourning, did. Haslem/Posey played good defense on him all series long, and Mourning being the intimidator in the paint.

I think George may actually be in a better situation in Dallas. The Lakers' lack of bench depth often called for him to step up to the situation--which is what he doesn't want to do. In Dallas, he can simply just masquerade himself along with Dallas's notorious deep bench--if he screws up, I bet Dallas fans won't call for his head.

Devean's gonna bring the donuts for morning practices. Those are the only rings that team will ever see.

just curious; will you be talking smack if/when kobe leaves the lakers? it seems like, any time a player leaves the lakers, you try to make him look like dirt. interesting. unlike the kings fans who always support their former players (except when they play against the kings; as the cliche would continue).
