Sacramento has explored other options to hold on to an NBA team, the most notable being billionaire Ron Burkle. Sources tell CBS13 that Burkle is still a viable option for Sacramento, but a spokesperson for Burkle did not respond to calls or text messages Friday.

The other key players in the arena deal also held back on commenting to the media Friday.

When we asked the NBA about Burkle – or any other potential owners – a spokesperson said “no comment.” As for the arena operator, AEG, a spokesman said there is “no change on our part” when we asked about developments with the Maloofs.

Assuming they can back away from the term sheet and either AIG or the city keeps giving them more on material terms that are no longer set, they are 100 percent committed to Sacramento.

If not, well they are threatening to walk away from their own deal.

Except this time we have Mayor Kevin Johnson and NBA Commissioner David Stern to help Sacramento.

I'm ok with new owners such as Ron Burkle or Larry Ellison (6th wealthiest person with net worth of $36 billion).

Larry Ellison is also a dangerous one. His dream was (and I think still is) to bring a basketball team to SJ.

Arena deal has a 30 year committment to sacramento. Team's not going anywhere anytime soon. All we need is an owner with money.

Nothing has been signed yet so as far as new owners are concerned there is no arena deal.

Stern has already rebuffed Ellison a few times because of his well known desire to move a team to San Jose. I don't see Stern turning him away only to let him buy up the Kings and move the team. Stern is going resolve this between now and the board of governors meeting in a few weeks.

Which do you think is more likely? George finally beats Stern down and gets to move the Kings after publicly embarrassing the NBA on Thursday night or Stern and the board take care of their George problem? I'm betting on Stern for this one. He has to put this to bed for good because George isn't going to stop being an unwilling participant in this process.
