It's amazing to see so many people on Twitter commenting on what George Karl had to say today during the conference call he had with STH. It dawned on me that we're probably going to have a lot of Karlisms in the next few months so I figured we might as well have one thread to contain them. Here's one comment a number of people were repeating today:

"I want a crazy building. I want Kings fans to bring the cowbells back. I'll wear ear plugs if I have to."

Those comments are paraphrased, btw.

And I like it. I've got a cowbell here just waiting for the next trip to the Train.

give the Kings fans a reason to bring the cowbells back and they will be more than willing, winning cures a lot of ailments. What I don't want to see is the shoot under 15 seconds thing I saw in another thread....that would be brutal, as long as it doesn't happen with Cousins on the court.

Hire Christopher Walken.

The point of that drill is partly to increase pace but fundamentally it's about moving the ball and getting quickly into your offensive sets. Not wasting a lot of time dribbling around.

Let's keep discussion of things like that in that other thread. :)

Funky beat me to it. It's not about training them to shoot in 15 seconds. It's simply a drill to get them in the mindset of setting up their offense quicker. It's much easier to defend for 15 seconds than it is for 24 seconds which makes player movement and ball movement all that more important.

I hardly see Karl getting on players to shoot before 15 seconds. He's going to want his team to get the best shot possible (thus getting into their sets quicker and giving them more time to find a good shot).

This drill is just a way to force their hand a bit more into sharing the ball at a quicker rate and getting into their offensive sets faster.

I like how when asked about our activity in the trade deadline that we would be quiet and that he wants to see what we have in our players. We've always had decent talent, but we've lacked significantly in development of young talent. Hopefully a hall of fame coach is all this franchise needs to get back to contention.

Debatable.

This was simply diplomacy 101 in action. Sorely missed around here the past couple months.

Call me old-fashioned, but I think I might go totally outside the boc here and maybe just wait to see what GK means before I climb that steep path to assumption cliff once again.

Fair enough. But it's getting hard to deny that pace and speed still seem to be the mantra. Karl is way more capable of executing against that but it's still a poor fit for our talent.

Well, a poor fit for our #1 talent, anyways. Some of our other players would be just fine in a faster system. If what they are shooting for is look for a quick layup from a defensive stop and if that isn't available go through DMC when he catches up to the speedsters, then I am just fine with that.

Ben and Darren are two of the faster NBA players. If they can get just one or two additional easy layups per game by sprinting out then it is worth it. Of course assuming they are healthy which Collison is not right now. If the guy taking the ball out or rebounding can throw accurate long passes then his first look should be for a wide open team mate streaking down the floor.

As for dribbling all over at a fast pace I don't see that type of player on the Kings right now.

Listening to that interview with DP, I'm glad Karl said the Kings wouldn't be active at trade deadline because Karl wanted to see what he had first. Maybe Karl can inject some patience and common sense into this organization.

It drives me crazy with Ben and some people with Nik when we see them not being used right and the player getting blamed. You absolutely DO have to put players in the right situation to succeed. Karl thinks he sees something the previous staff missed.

The really interesting part of the interview was when he was asked, "So this is your first time seeing Demarcus play in person - what did you think?"

There was a lot of ways he could have responded, but he immediately said, "I couldn't believe how ....well, I don't want to start my year out with a fine, so --
He really absorbs punishment out there."

He was going to say something like "I can't believe how many times he is fouled but doesn't get the call!"

VERY interesting to me that that's the 1st response from a guy who has lived for 3 decades in the NBA and seen a lot of guys play and get fouls.
I agree, George - it IS rather incredible how the rules of the game are different when defending Demarcus.

The good part is that George Karl will not sit idly by while Cousins is pummeled. He'll get in the face of the officials and he'll make sure they know he's watching. We saw the beginning of that tonight. There is no active coach in the NBA with a better winning record than Karl. The officials are on notice.

We've been riding around the league in a 53 Buick with a railroad tie for a front bumper, blown head gasket and bald tires. We showed up tonight in a classic Rolls Royce.
