A Randle-Skal trade makes sense for both teams.
The Lakers want to create TWO max slots for two of three of Paul George, LeBron or Boogie however much of a pipe dream it may be and that will NOT happen with Randle expected to command 80-100M as a RFA.
The Kings need nasty. Randle has nasty in him. He's a wrecking ball offensively.
He's kind of a better fit too next to Willie as a guy who's not going to get the rebound but clear space in the interior so Willie can fly in to get it.
Randle would also be a great pick and roll player with Boggy and Fox and running the break with Fox.
Randle also increased his FG% from 43% to 49% to 55% FGs this year. Good efficiency.
He doesn't have the range or shot blocking of Skal but he is the type of player this team lacks and needs. Nasty and physical.
This three team trade works but I will tell you why it should NOT happen (yet):
If the Kings add Randle they will be immediately more competitive. If the Lakers replace Randle with Skal they are likely to be less competitive.
This hurts both teams with Lakers contingent pick and the Kings needing a Top 3 or Top 5 player in the worst way.
The Lakers have to give their pick to the Celtics if it is between 2-5. Right now they are sitting pretty with a pick around 6-10.
This is a potential trade that perhaps can be revisited (minus CLE) when the season ends depending how Skal performs over the next 40 games.
I am still VERY high on Skal but Randle is probably a better complement for what we have and need.
It was also slightly disconcerting this first 30 games of this season were a total waste for the kid.
I am happy with the way he is performing lately but it is a bit perplexing how totally ineffective he was for a large chunk of the season.
LAL-SAC-CLE
P.S. In this hypothetical below we'd have to waive VC since it is a 2 for 3 to make the salaries work,
