Geoff Petrie

i was JUST thinking that. well, that people have finally shut up about petrie. props to one of the best gms in the league for this great team he's assembled.

And he's not done yet. We're still rebuilding...which takes your breath away in the really good way if you think about it.

:D

If you were going to pin down the one thing that sets Geoff apart from the other GM's in this league, it's his eye for talent. I think that's one thing some of us Kings fans have taken for granted over the years. And, I'm not only talking about the draft. Certainly, with the notable exception of Douby (and several second rounders), Petrie has drafted well, but he's also found a way to find seemingly overlooked guys that fit the Kings' system well (JJ, Keon, Bonzi, Segio, etc.). That being said, however, there are still questions that loom. Notably, why did we put off the rebuild for so long? Why bother with guys like Mikki Moore? Why did we have to go through three coaches before we found one to replace Rick? You can say it was the Maloofs, of course, and maybe you'd be right, but the question still remains.

One a more positive note, I think one of the ESPN crew (can't remember which one) unintentionally praised Petrie during the game. He said (and I'm paraphrasing here): "When the Kings become very good again, they're really going to benefit from [Evans'] playstyle." I can't think of anything nicer to say about Petrie than the simple fact that, around the league, the Kings are seen as a team that if not now, are going to be very important once again.

P.S. It seems interesting that, whenever we field a team that is relevant, they're also coincidentally fun to watch, and that's coming from outsiders.

I have to disagree that the question remains... It's past history now. We cannot change it so arguing/debating it has become something for team historians to delve into on those long summer evenings when they (and we) have nothing better to do.

Right now, I think there's an indication that Petrie's genius is once again in full bloom. Not everything Einstein did was perfect, remember...

People want 100% perfection in a job that is fraught with perils and potholes. I think people have been way too hard on Geoff Petrie at times and I'm just glad things are going his - and our - way once again
