Garnett out for playoffs!!

"Coach Doc Rivers said this morning that Garnett, who injured his knee Feb. 19 at Utah and has been in limbo since, will miss the second-seeded Celtics' first-round series against the Bulls, and that it is unlikely he would be available to play at all in the postseason, which begins Saturday."

I wonder if they will still keep him on the playoff roster. That will probably tell you if there is any chance of him recovering enough by the 2nd or 3rd round if they get that far.

Their playoff run is over without Garnett. I don't think they could beat Cleveland without him. Poor Mikey. He thinks he's being traded to a shoe in champioship team.....but no....one year too late.

His knees have hit that "magic" mark on the odometer... where Duncan has slowed, Kobe has slowed... not drastically but enough to see that at this point there is a definite issue. Good news for the Bulls though!!!

And just like that the window snaps shut.

As an aside, there is something they are not telling us here. They are playing for a title, maybe their last title shot, Garnett is a warrior and long one of the great iron men of the league, he's not missing this for soreness or swelling. There's nothing left to save it for.

Yep. Teams have gotten more and more tight lipped on even positive news regarding recuperation. They want to maintain interest in the team and keep the window open a crack for a late comeback try.

I do believe that swelling would keep him out if it's intense. There's not much you can do with a swollen knee at this level. Rivers said his "leg locked" after simply running and cycling. I reckon he's got the same issue Bynum had in that resting won't stop that knee from swelling. It's the bone spur or ligament strain that's causing it. Bynum's kept swelling up after activity due to a rough spot on the back of the kneecap that had to be filed down. Once they did that, the swelling magically stopped, but they waited too long to do it.

Either that or the strained muscle and/or ligament has been downplayed from Day 1.

Knee locking makes me think torn cartilage.... which of course means microfracture which doesn't tend to work out too well at his age...

I'm really trying to be interested in the playoffs this year, but the Lakers and Cavs are just so far ahead of anyone else what's the point? :(

Do you remember when a 60 win Dallas Mavericks team got beat by an 8th seed?

I DO!

Garnett 2004 before game 7 against Kings said:
It’s for all the marbles. I’m sitting in the house loading up the pump, I’m loading up the Uzis, I’ve got a couple of M-16s, couple of nines, couple of joints with some silencers on them, couple of grenades, got a missile launcher. I’m ready for war.
I could never like him after that (plus bitter Kings lost after I drove all the way to Twin Cities to watch the game). He did get 32 pts and 21 rebounds in game 7.

I would want a player like that any day. As a coach or a fan or a player, you WANT your players, especially your BEST player, to feel like they're ready for war. We need players like that and you want them to have that mentality.

It was just a terrible analogy when there are Americans dying in real wars. That was why most people had a problem with it at the time.

I disagree. People are oversensitive. Instead of getting mad at KG for using a metaphor that he's ready to do whatever it takes to win, people should be mad at the people who started the war if they have a beef with the war. Fact is, if I'm playing on a team I want a teammate who has that intensity or fire. I don't want some overly PC softy.

I was just stating why it caused a noticeable little ruckus at the time. Maybe people are oversensitive, but quite a few of the "oversensitive" were those who had loved ones overseas fighting or had lost loved ones in real war. Probably would make me oversensitive, too.

I could care less about what the said if it wasn't what happened before he said it. I was moreso upset because of game 6 when Garnett provoked and hit Peeler first and Peeler than hit im back. Of course Peeler was suspended and Garnett was not.

I got to move on with my life and stop holding grudges :)
