Garcia wants to stay in Sacramento..

Got this from a hispanic website called Sportsya.com.

Translation is this:

Garcia wants to stay in Sacramento.

Garcia hopes to reach a contract that would keep him in a Kings uniform for 4 to 5 years. He's said that they (Kings) have treated him well.

"I spoke with the General Manager and the President of Operations and they've said they have plans for me for the years ahead." Said Garcia in a press conference.

The forward who played 79 games in the first year with the Kings, and where he averaged 6 pts, 2.6 rbs, did acknowledge he had a lackluster beginning of the season due in part of the limited playing time he had.

He says that as the season played on, that changed and he began to get more playing time.

"Thank God things changed for me towards the end of the season", said the player who was with his Mom, Miguelina Garcia.

This is not set in stone, but the fact that Petrie has plans for him is interesting.

"muchos planes" even...

I think we can all rest assured that Artest is going to Miami, LA, or somewhere this offseason. I think Garcia is just as qualified to start at SF as any rookie we would draft at #10. Unless we get a veteran SF in a trade, there's a good chance Garcia starts.

Of course, I remember management telling Kenny Thomas that he would be a big part of the Kings future too...

I think Garcia would be our best bet a SF unless we can acquire someone like a Gerald Wallace which probably won't happen. Even though Garcia can become shot happy at times he really is a solid team player and excellent playmaker. I would like to see him play more PG this year as well like he did under Adelman, his court vision, passing, and driving skills are top notch.

His defensive playmaking has also become very strong, he's a guy that could average 8 boards, 2 steals and 1.5 blocks per game. If his shooting becomes more consistent which I think it will with more playing time he will be a perfect fit for our future, more so than Artest.

Thanks for posting the translation. This is great news. I love Garcia’s energy, play and overall attitude. And that guy is only going to get better…I don’t understand why people want to incorporate him in all this trade talk. Hopefully the management will keep him.

A guy like Garcia is GREAT to have at SF..

Garcia is one of those all around type players that any team would love to have. Seriously would consider him and Martin one of the top two prospects at the 2, and 3 positions. That's how much I believe in those two. Scoring wise I give Martin the edge, but every other aspect Garcia is the man.

Martin, and Garcia are two players we could build a team around. Also, on the plus side we have Salmons backing both of them up, and Douby backing up Martin in a smaller lineup. If we were to get a young PG than we will be set at those three positions for years to come.

Now if only Bibby/Artest = a PF?

Garcia is the type of player we need to contend with the type of basketball thats winning in todays game, fast paced, right now in my thoughts Garcia has the potential to be a rich mans Battier.
Would love to keep his hustle in sac town for years to come.

Too bad he doesn't have Battier's brain.

I think people look pretty hard on that aspect of his game, hes a good playmaker, good defender, he makes good descisions more then he does bad, yah hes made some stupid plays but he is still mentally young in the NBA.
That being said I think he is smarter then he appears.

That would not be hard. ;)

That said I am willing to live with it if he picks up where he left off last year. I think a serious title contender like the Spurs would quickly lose patience wiht the dumbness, but we should be young, and out of the running, and can afford to live with it and see how he matures. His versatility and hustle are both major plusses.

Most significantly, he has shown flashes of more value here than he would be worth in a trade. He has no rep, nobody drooling over him around the league. He's just a guy. And he's cheap. So you put those things together and there really is little reason to move him. His flashes of potential are greater than anything he might bring back.

He was like Matt Barnes but better, and Barnes seems to be doing okay in Golden State

As long as he keeps his dumb stunts to a minimum I think he will work out just fine :)

If I had a choice between keeping either Matt Barnes or Francisco Garcia, I would rather keep Barnes.

i was mad that we didnt go after barnes.... but wouldnt salmons be our starting sf if artest is traded and we dont pick up a vet?

it would be nice if we had a golden state type team... we would have to get rid of miller and thomas... maybe reef but he would be nice to keep as the anti-smallball pf when the shots stop falling....

i'll go on record as being an irrational garcia fan. i have no problem with him starting at SF next season. its the best time to tinker and find out what we really have. well, second best time. first being the second half of last season.

If we're trying to gain a golden state type team then wouldn't Kenny fit that role much better than SAR? Kenny is faster and a better rebounder than Shareef.

yeah but he cant shoot or score to save his life.... and judging by the way that they lost to the jazz we would need a low post scorer when the shots arent going in... if the threes are falling it wouldnt matter who we had but the minute that 2 or 3 miss the lead is gone... harrington is more like reef than he is kenny... thomas is just short....

i like garcias energy. i think it wouldn't be a bad thing to have him start for a year to see what we have. He might actually improve w/ starter minutes. it ain't like we're going anywhere soon. muss shoulda let the kids play more last season.

I think Cisco's major attribute that we need is his ball handling skills and rebounding. When Bibby's out of the lineup Salmon's, Artest and Cisco were called upon to bring the ball up with increasing minutes over the season to Price. I'd like to see all of the kids resigned and get more PT early this year to see if they're ready to handle more responsibility. I don't think they got enough of that at the end of last season.

I wouldn't call Garcia stupid, I think it's that he takes more initiative than most players do and thus is more likely to make stupid mistakes.

There is a saying: the fool who persists in his ways eventually becomes wise.

Garcia is going to be dangerous once he gets wise. I don't think he needs too
much longer either.

I've always liked Cisco. He doesn't get any attention because he didn't develp as quickly as Kevin. So what. I think he has great upside for his price and you know you are going to get 100% energy every night. For a young, rebuilding team, Cisco is perfect.

Garcia is not stupid, he's aggressive...which is something I wish I could say for more players on this team. He may tend to be over-aggressive at times but that will be cleared up with more experience and a good coach. He brings a lot of things that the Kings need and players that bring as much intensity as he does tend to succeed in this league.

He also didn't get to start half of his second season like kevin did. Martin is a great scorer, cisco is better just about everywhere else. I always like when they are able to run the floor together. And I would much rather see cisco starting over salmons. I'm still not sold on him yet.

they are a nice little duo but they are to small... which one of them will sacrificed against lebron, kobe, tmac, carter, josh howard? they have no size on them at all....

I love when both cisco and kevin were on the floor together. they had great chemistry. I was disapointed when muss didn't use both of them together. then again he really didn't use garcia till late in the season.

Agree with the above. Garcia is a good perimiter defender. I feel that he will be fine against a guy that is a couple inches taller. The only thing that worries me is him guarding a beast of a SF who has about 40lbs on him and 2-3". But that's when we can adjust. Most team SF are about 6"7-6"8 and about 200-220. Garcia is listed at 195lbs, but I think he is closer to 205-210 now.

Third Year = Money

This is Francisco's 3rd year too. Most players either bloom or bust in this year, so giving him major minutes will be a plus for us. We're in rebuild mode anyways, and I think that Francisco has shown enough flashes to warrant the minutes to show what he is capable of. Nobody knew who Kevin Martin was either except for his lucky playoff layup. Then his third year Bonzi Wells takes off, Kevin gets to start, and he explodes. I'd expect to see similar improvement in Garcia also (better/smarter defense, dominant forward rebounding, more free throws attempted, more assists, and more FGMs).
