Well, they ain't winning this one for the gipper.

And as to the rumor that players don't want Karl as coach - their play certainly isnt making any kind of statement to lend any credence to it.

Or vice versa -- I half expected them to come out in this one playing freer getting ready for Karl now that that was a done deal. Instead, it was like watching a funeral procession.

G-Man just told Jason Ross that they had to take a bus to Milwaukee. Not that I expected them to take a charter for would end up being, like, a thirty minute flight, but I'm still surprised to hear them taking a bus.

Or, maybe that was the penalty for losing tonight?

They sure didn't play like they had any interest in impressing the new coach tonight.
The numbers seemed to indicate that they played hard, but were just outmatched. The defense was bad, but they won the rebounding battle, they scored more points in the paint, they got more second-chance points, they got to the line... the effort appeared to be there, but the Bulls are a better team.

14-27 (51.9%) from the line was a disaster. From Kings team #7 FT % at 78%. Got to line way more than Chicago but failed to cash in.

All the money going to pay our THREE head coaches this season. Gotta cut fat where we can. Once we can Karl sometime in March we'll start asking players to thumb a ride to the next stop.

Ya know, that Pau Gasoline guy can play!

Funny how so many KF'ers have been against him coming to the Kings for so long....

??
You've been here for years, as well -
you don't remember the idea has been discussed from year to year for the Kings to pick up Pau, and the overriding response was "No way - not good enough - too old - too frail - too something or other" ?

That's not your memory of the consensus KF's opinion of Pau?

After Boogie.

Very interesting thread, there:
Peter_Gibbons was dead-on in his posts. Much props. Rainmaker was spot-on, as well.
The KF's against trading #5 (eventually T-Rob) and maybe someone else (IT or Garcia, etc) for Pau Gasol were:

hrdboild, Schmoe, Hoovtrain, Testsujin, KingsFanSince85, Carolija, Nighthawk1, Dime Dropper, ESP47 (who foresaw Rudy Gay was the right veteran to go after), DerekJ, (VF21 was against it solely because it would have been trading with LA).

First off, I'm not a big fan of going through old threads to find out who supported what position and calling them out on it. You never know when someone's going to go through old threads and find out who was supporting what wild conspiracy theory...

Second off, those posters were probably right. Pau's 2011-2012 year was the beginning of a decline phase for him - he was getting older, he started playing outside a bit more (check the drop in free throw rate), his field goal percentage was down from dominant Pau, etc. There were tons of red flags there. And he was owed $38M for two more years of what could have been an even steeper decline phase in his career.

And guess what? It was. Some of this can probably be attributed to the addition of Dwight Howard in the post, but even that was only one year. Over the next two years, Gasol put up career worsts in just about everything: Games Played, FG%, eFG%, TS%, FT%, PPG, ORtg, PER, Free Throw Rate, WS, WS/48, BPM, VORP...at least all of those. Pau was not remotely worth $19M/year for those two years.

This year, Pau is a bit better. But he's still only back (or in most cases not quite back) to the level of his age-31 drop-off season - the one that certainly gave all those posters pause when considering whether to trade the #5 overall pick for him. He's not Dominant Pau anymore, and at age 34 now, he'll never be Dominant Pau again. He had a great game against us last night, but don't mistakenly assume that all season he has been like that.

I like this especially the part put in bold.

Hell, I could overlook that; I've done it myself, more than once, and will likely do it again. But a quick perusal of that thread indicates that he's intentionally cherry picking and taking the words of some of the posters he cited out of context, and twisting their posts to fit his narrative.

There's been a lot of that going around, lately, too. Makes me wonder if some posters here are related?

EXCUSE ME?!

I did not take ANYone's post out of context, nor cherry-picked anyone's stance.
I stand behind every post I've made here, invite anyone to revisit any of them (all of them didn't all turn out, but I'll put my % up against the most accurate posters here), and would never hide my opinions and observations behind any cowardly sock-puppet account.

If I mis-represented anyone's simple vote of "Yes, I'd be for a Pau trade for the Kings #5 pick + change", I'll be happy to go back and strike anyone's vote from the naysayer's column.
Just show me where I was inaccurate, and I'll correct my post(s).
