So we are going all in on porter until we have answer we aren't in pursuit.
No point in making an offer till July 6th, they'd have until the 8th to match from my understanding.
I guess we will see if we make other moves before.

By the time they reach the end of their rookie contracts. Porters would be up as well. You talk about earning min then say you would be disappointed with short rotation. And how does Jackson earn his with no competition. They can go after him, but a max contract is too much to chew I think. I think there's a fair chance in 3 years, at least 1 or 2 of the Kings young players will be more valuable than Porter, and that includes Jackson. I'd save cap-space for re-signing one of the many question-mark players they now have. I don't think any rational Kings fan expects the Kings to make the Playoffs this year, although there is a small chance that players mesh well, and they could surprise. Come into the season with a huge rotation, and let the young guys (that's pretty much everyone besides Temple, Koufos, and possibly Collison/Lawson if resigning) earn their minutes in support of one another.
I would be very disappointed if Joerger restricts his rotation to 8-9 players.
I just hope if we get him. And I know it's a king shot. We don't end up with an Alan crabbe situation. In theory you are right. But Porter is pretty much this years Harrison Barnes. Teams will bet on his improvement, when given a bigger role on offense. The good thing is, that both Porter and Barnes are good defenders. So even, if the player doesn't improve as hoped on offense, he will still be a mid tier offensive player but a really good defender. A max contract would be an overpay in this case, but it would be not a desastrous contract, like Asik for example.
I think going after Porter is the right thing to do. It might come back to bite us, but sometimes you have to take risks and bet on players you believe in. Porter is versatile, plays good D, can shoot and can attack the basket. Maybe not a guy you built an offense around, but in todays league he is a valuable asset even on his current production level.
Vlade: Porter?
Perry: Porter?
Cantenella: Porter?
Porter: ummm...
Vivek: Porter!
Porter: Well...
Vivek: 1..2..3....OTTO ROCKS!!!
Porter: I'll call you...
Gordon Hayward a few years back. Charlotte signed him, Utah matched.Do we have examples of guys offered max contracts and then having it matched by their current team?
The thing to consider with Crabbe is everyone thought Evan Turner signaled they were moving on, Blazers were dopey to sign both.Bojan isn't worth the max, but I think the Kings could offer 2 years $30million which would be reasonable. It would also be an amount that would make the Wiz hesitant to match. Bogdanovic would be playing as their 6th man, more of an off-ball player though. I don't know if they'd be willing to pay that much for Bojan after seeing how Crabbe's contract affected Portland's cap.

Otto Porter update: The Sacramento Kings contingent, including Vlade Divac, just left meeting at David Falk's office. #Wizards

The Porter thing seems like a bit of a strange chess match to me. The Wiz and Porter were not able to come to an agreement, so he's out fielding offers. Now let's assume that Porter will get a max offer (from the Kings if not from anybody else) and that the Wizards believe that he will get a max offer. If both of these are the case, then the Wiz would just put down an offer identical to what the Kings can offer and tell Porter to go ahead and sign it, to save him the trouble of going out, finding that max offer, and then matching.
But that didn't happen. Clearly the Wiz did not put a max offer out in front of Porter. They only do this because either 1) they don't think he'll get a max or 2) they don't want to match a max. They almost certainly have to think he'll get a max, so I think they don't really want to match. And maybe that's why they're loudly saying they will match - trying to keep teams from putting out that max? If he's going to get it, and they're going to match...just offer it and save the trouble. If we play hardball here, we might win.
I hope the Wizards value Oubre.. I mean think he can fill some shoes.
I think us going after Otto now might mean all of our initial targets are off the board, hence why it wasn't our initial approach
I agree with most of this except for the part about the wizards not matching... What is their plan B at this point? They just signed Meeks to a small contract presumably in lieu of Bogdan. That extra money has to be for Porter no?I just have to believe that Porter has been the plan since the Cousins trade. Vivek being in the meetings (quietly?) hopefully is a sign that we are serious (if done right it will be taken that way). That seems to be how it is intended.
I also think this is 100% Vlade. If that is indeed the case, hopefully Vivek will yield in the actual discussions. Vlade absolutely killing it two drafts in a row I think has helped Vivek trust him more.
And no, I don't think the W's match a max contract. If Porter is offered a more prominent role, a larger contract, a great young coach, a better set of young players to grow with, the full confidence of an organization behind him, a great basketball city, great weather... that begins to be a lot of positives. Frankly it's any young players dream. He's looking at a chance to define the rest of his career. If he believes in himself, this situation is the most likely to lead to another max contract/potential superstar status. That doesn't happen on a team with Wall and Beall. Get the young man to believe he is worth this, and that we believe in him, and I think we may have a deal.

I'm thinking it may be different with restricted free agents. Like we may not know the offer until the 6th. That's when it can be official. Wiz will have 48 hours to match. That ant happen now because it's not officialI wonder why there isn't a report of us actually offering anything
Why don't offer the max to both Porter and Bogdanovic (four years the first, two the second). Wizards cannot match both of them, at the same time they jus cannot afford to lose both of them. Does it make any sense?
Well they are at the cap. With a porter signing they would be over. Not sure how they wanna be money wiseI agree with most of this except for the part about the wizards not matching...
