Free Agency Open Thread (NBA and Kings!)

Washington's owner is notoriously cheap. He probably doesn't want to have 3 max players. I think he is bluffing on matching.

He may want a sign and trade? So he can get some cheaper assets or draft picks. I say we call their bluff and give Porter the max and see what they do.
May as well.....and structure deal in most onerous way possible, frontloaded, trade kicker, 3 year player opt-out and whatever player-friendly owner-unfriendly gizmos we can come up with.....

EDIT: I just don't want us to lose out on a guy like Jonathan Simmons while the Wizards are deciding to match. That's my only concern.

Unloading CoJo won't take them below tax. They will almost certainly have to pay (via pick) to move Carroll. Jonas is the interesting one.

Pick, joseph and caroll YES PLS
Then sign a vet pf such as nene, festus e. Or david lee
I think nene has already signed. Getting Carroll would hurt chances with porter. Not sure how high a pick would be considering the east lacks talent now. Looking at late teens at best

Why don't offer the max to both Porter and Bogdanovic (four years the first, two the second). Wizards cannot match both of them, at the same time they jus cannot afford to lose both of them. Does it make any sense?

Would prefer Harkless obviously, but I doubt Portland gives him away for free.
I really like the idea of taking Carroll for a future first rounder. His deal is only 2 years, which is perfect for where we are going. He helps in the first year to bring on the kids and he isnt good enough to make up for too many wins. Then, next year, if you're trying to win you already have a vet that helps or if you need space, you stretch the remaining 15 mil over three years. I'm glad we didnt give Tucker a 4 year deal. As always, years over dollars.

Bring back Lawson at 2 years with the 2nd unguarnteed and one other PF like Gibson on a low-years-high-dollars-deal and youve got yourself a team that has a healthy amount of vets but still enough playing time for all the rooks. The young guys dont get murdered by the starters of these super western conference teams but still have all chances to earn their minutes. I also like Gibson because if Skal continues his rise you could then look to trade Koufos, put Gibson as the backup big and start Skal.

Lawson Fox Mason
Hield Bogdanovic Richardson
Carroll Temple Jackson
Gibson Skal Giles
Wcs Koufos PapaG

Jackson, Giles, PapaG go to the dleague. Starting 5 has a good mix of vets and the most ready young guys in Willie and Buddy. Second unit is also balanced as Fox can get support by Bogdan and Temple if he struggles to run the offense initially.
Fox is the starter out of the gate, let's not get silly now.

Bojan isn't worth the max, but I think the Kings could offer 2 years $30million which would be reasonable. It would also be an amount that would make the Wiz hesitant to match. Bogdanovic would be playing as their 6th man, more of an off-ball player though. I don't know if they'd be willing to pay that much for Bojan after seeing how Crabbe's contract affected Portland's cap.

Washington doesn't want to give Porter a max deal. Saying they will match any offer is just an attempt to scare away teams in my opinion. Then they will probably match anyways, but sure they are hoping to re-sign him for cheaper.
Otherwise I don't understand why they let him talk to other teams, if they think he's a max player and part of their future. We should just offer the max, and see what they do in Washington.

downside to Bogdanovic is that he’s a problem defensively. In last year’s playoffs, Bojan had the third-worst defensive rating on the team at 113.2. During the regular season he had the fourth worst at 109.2.
