Once Kawhi went down he played the point forward role for the Spurs. Simmons can play 1-3, although he is a tad too small for a SF. Actually he is pretty similar to Temple just a bit stronger and a bit more physical.
Simmons maybe hasn't been a consistent offensive player, but you can absolutely count on his defense and he impacts the game with his athleticism.
The biggest question in this case is, if he is redundant with guys like Temple, Hield, Richardson and Bogdanovic. Simmons is aggressive and strong enough to battle against bigger SF's, but he still is 6'6.
Everyone has a soft spot for those hardworking, blue collar late bloomers like Simmons and he could teach our young guys a thing or two.
I think this would be a really good hire from a leadership and defensive standpoint. Offensively Simmons just needs to find his shot from 3 and he is a prototypical 3&D guy.
I'm a bit suprised, that the Kings still go after him. He would have been perfect with DMC still on the team. Now with our plethora of SG's and our lack of a full sized SF there are some question marks.
I fully expected the Pel's to go after him immediately, because he would be pretty much a perfect fit for them. Butit seems Demps isn't interested.

Iggy is going to have a lot of suitors, a lot. NBA TV was saying around 10 teams in the mix

Sounds like Temple without the three, and Temple will have to play some SF undoubtedly with Buddy/Bogdan/Malachi

This is probably on another thread - too lazy to look.... I was thinking a bit about this - how about just go after Collison (or Lawson), and let the rookies roam. I would like to see the Kings start all rookies/2nd years besides maybe Koufos (on a short leash). Randolph is 35 - that's begging an injury. Give development time vs vet leadership.....Randolph is not going to make a big difference and will take time away from a youngin' in need of time - namely PapaG. I guess they're looking at SF for Randolph (?). I would not sign a big contract on Randolph. Hold onto cap space.

I watched the Warrior series, and wasn't that impressed with Simmons - he looked ok, but not able to raise his game against the Warrior team - felt like he was trying to 'bite off more than he could chew' in his play and response to being beaten rather than relaxing - without researching - I think he had too many turnovers and poor shooting games. Maybe thats a lack of experience....and maybe if the contract was right, he'd be an ok try-out player on a short contract.

And he is a fair bit better player than Tolliver. I would be very happy with PP as a PF who will split time with Skal. Good locker room guy too.
You've hit the absolute core debate for the Kings - taking away development minutes for young players. There's got to be a lavish amount of patience. The Kings are going the value route right now.....if they have 1-2 players break out next season they've found a base, 2-3 players during the season - especially if 2 guards (Fox/Hield) and 1 of WCS/Skal/PapaG break out (as in close to avg double/doubles), they may fare better win-wise than last season. I like Hield alot, but he needs to pick up the rest of his game (rebounds/assists/defense) on-top of shooting.

I don't see the problem with adding veterans at small forward or something. U have to have SOME kind of veteran. If anything, this can help players develop. I don't know why everyone assumes that developing somehow equates to everyone playing 38 minutes and winning 10 games

Minnesota is going to be much improved with Teague signing and Butler there. They are going to be a solid team. Depth is an issue, but they look good on paper.
Houston looks to be a solid team, although their defense and depth got worse and there are some questions about a Chris Paul/Harden pairing and how that will work. I think it will be fine, both guys are very high IQ players and will figure out a way.
Utah will score even less points now than last year seeing as Rubio can't shoot worth a crap and there are concerns that Hayward is going to leave. Up in the air on this one as they have not yet retained their star player.
OKC definitely got better and got a top 5 SF, but is it a 1 year rental? George has got to love playing with Russ or this ends up being a lateral move at best.
LA clippers spending big on Blake, that's a lot of money for a guy who has been injured quite a bit recently. Glad it wasn't us. Redick is probably gone. Clippers will be fighting for 8th spot at best next year, most likely out of the playoff picture. Jordan will be way worse now that most of his offense went to Houston.
Warriors signing Steph to a crazy contract but that's what everyone expected. What else can you do as a franchise... he brought them back to relevancy and now utter domination. Iggy might leave and will probably leave as he can get far more money elsewhere. Who will take his place?
Indiana got fleeced in the PG trade. Top 14 protected? That blows. Makes our trade look brilliant, almost. Not sure what their plan is right now.
Bulls also got fleeced in their trade, but they definitely got better assets than Indiana. They are going full rebuild right now.

I'm not sure how good the CP3 and Harden pairing will be but their defense should be better. Beverly is a very good defensive PG but Paul is probably the best in the NBA.
And the Jazz may score fewer points (Rubio will score less than Hill but will his passing allow others to score more?) but they will also be even better defensively. Getting Hayward back is key though.

They were in a tough cap situation, but to sign for 5 years on the first day of FA is throwing in the towel kind of quick if you ask me.

I have not heard any rumblings regarding Porter. Wizards just pulled up the Brinks for Wall. Kings should offer a 5 yr deal 130-140. Wizards won't match.

If you want to acquire a point guard for the purpose of mentoring and developing youth, while at the same time not taking up a lot of minutes, there would be no one better than 35 year old Tony Parker. If you like the idea of developing your team after SA, then why not acquire a guy who has lived and breathed playing the "right way" in San Antonio? If you like the idea of having your point of the future in Fox who is extremely quick and fast but currently without the outside shot modeling himself after a similar veteran player who started in the league with no outside shot, Parker is the guy. Parker's salary is 15.4 million. He's got one year left on his contract, so he satisfies the short term contractual box. SA needs cap room to go out and get a pg with less wear on the tires. Maybe it's time for Pop and Parker to part company. Send Parker to the Kings for a bag of chips and start San Antonio II in Sacramento. Who knows, maybe they could even get him to coach after he stops playing.
I believe the Kings can only offer up to four years. My understanding is that only the current team can offer a contract with a 5th year.
If the Spurs are willing to move Parker for cap relief then it's a good idea, assuming Parker will be in a position to play to start the season. What's the timeline in his recovery?

We can only offer a 4 year deal. And at Porters Max, this amounts to about 4x25=100 mil.

Don't know. But I wouldn't even condition it on playing at the beginning of the season. If he could play by January I'd still be interested. There are just soooo many things Parker can contribute to this team, even when he's not playing on the court.

True, Paul is great on the defensive end, but Beverley was 100% defense all of the time. It's what he is out there to do. Paul is going to start losing a step soon and hasn't really been a lockdown 1 on 1 defender, but is a great team defender. We have to see how it plays out, but let's be real. Houston is not exactly known for defense to begin with so it doesn't even matter!
